Three of us, Nic, Manson & Pauline, set off the Changsha on 31 August 2013 to conduct a summer worship camp for the students of Hunan Bible Institute (HBI). An invitation to lead worship and share a message at Bei Zhen Jie Church in Changsha came on Wed (4 Sept) for Fri (6 Sept). We agreed to do it with very little preparation. Praise the Lord for the hour worship and a message that God used. Although our schedule is very packed, we did have our share of fun and sights in the city too! God is good!

Taipei Hiking | Maokong Zhinan Temple Trail | 指南宮步道
Zhinan Temple Trail 指南宮步道 - Awesome and peaceful trail which is perfect for short exercise. Packed with lots of beautiful views of one of the most famous temple in Taipei - Zhinan Temple (指南宮).
Zhinan Temple 指南宮 is lined with Japanese stone lanterns that can be back tracked all the way to Japanese colonial era of the early Showa period. Built in 1890, Zhinan temple had undergone numerous renovations and upgrades (even is being renovated when we were there!). This temple is located at the foot of Zhishan Mountain in Taipei's Wenshan District.
From wiki: Yue Lao (Chinese: 月下老人; pinyin: Yuè Xià Lǎorén; literally: 'old man under the moon') is a god of marriage and love in Chinese mythology. He appears as an old man under the moon. He is comparable to the Shinto kami Musubi-no-Kami, god of matchmaking, love and marriage.
From wiki: Jiaobei blocks or moon blocks (Chinese: 筊杯 or 珓杯; literally: 'fortune-telling cups') are wooden divination tools originating from China, which are used in pairs and thrown to answer a yes or no question. They are made out of wood or bamboo and carved into a crescent shape. Each block is round on one side (known as the yin side) and flat on the other (known as the yang side). It is one of the more commonly used items found in Chinese traditional religion and are used in temples and home shrines along with fortune sticks, both of which are often used together when requesting an answer from the gods.

To get there:
Option 1: Get to National Chengchi University bus stop from wherever you're located, and from there, walk to the trail entrance (10 mins walk)
This is much popular option as there are more buses to National Chengchi University (one of the popular universities in Taipei).
Option 2: Get to Beizheng Jr High School Bus Station from whereever you're located.
The route that we took was little bit special - As our main destination is Beizheng Jr High School bus station (which is 50-100m away from the trail entrance).
This is what we did:
From Taipei City Hall bus stop (At Exit 3 of Taipei City Hall MRT Station), take BR7 to Wenchan Dist.Admin Center (Muxin). Then walk to Muja Market bus stop (5 mins away). From there, take S10 (小10) to Beizheng Jr. High School.
We like this more as there's more flavors to our entire hiking experience (passing through the markets, getting to know new areas).

I am happy to announce a guzheng workshop that I will be teaching in Orange County, California on August 16 and 17. I am looking forward to giving you my insight on technique, improvisation, composition, and performance. You will also have the chance to learn three songs that span different genres, and The Butterfly Lovers will be one of them! Individual practice time will be given at the workshop. You will have the chance to jam and improvise with a band. Looking forward to seeing you there.

The story of The Butterfly Lovers is a lot like the story of Romeo and Juliet. It is a story about love, passion, devotion, desperation and transformation. Both stories have tragic endings, yet so beautiful, so romantic, and timeless. Liang Shan-bo and Zhu Ying-tai, these two lovers could not be together when they were alive. The circumstances kept them from being a couple. Therefore, they chose death. Both of them turned into butterflies. The butterfly lovers finally escaped from the rules of human society and thus were free to love and to be with each other forever and ever.
This video captures a live performance by me. Filmed in Los Angeles on a beautiful spring day. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
