Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located in the northwest of the country.
The Bell Tower, the belfry, (Belfort) was added to the market square around 1240, when Bruges was prospering as an important centre of the Flemish cloth industry. After a devastating fire in 1280, the tower was largely rebuilt. The city archives, however, were forever lost to the flames.

Bruges, Belgium - Belfry of Bruges (2018)
The Belfry of Bruges (Dutch: Belfort van Brugge) is a medieval bell tower in the centre of Bruges, Belgium. One of the city's most prominent symbols, the belfry formerly housed a treasury and the municipal archives, and served as an observation post for spotting fires and other danger. A narrow, steep staircase of 366 steps, accessible by the public for an entry fee,[2] leads to the top of the 83 m (272 feet) high building, which leans 87 centimeters to the east.
To the sides and back of the tower stands the former market hall, a rectangular building only 44 m broad but 84 m deep, with an inner courtyard. The belfry, accordingly, is also known as the Halletoren (tower of the halls).
The building is a central feature of the 2008 film In Bruges and is also mentioned in the novel Cloud Atlas.
Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country.
The area of the whole city amounts to more than 13,840 hectares, including 1,075 hectares off the coast, at Zeebrugge (from Brugge aan zee,[2] meaning Bruges by the Sea). The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. It is oval in shape and about 430 hectares in size. The city's total population is 117,073 (1 January 2008), of whom around 20,000 live in the city centre. The metropolitan area, including the outer commuter zone, covers an area of 616 km2 (238 sq mi) and has a total of 255,844 inhabitants as of 1 January 2008.
Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as the Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance, thanks to its port, and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Bruges is well known as the seat of the College of Europe, a university institute for European studies.

It's a long ascension up the 366 steps to the top, but the panorama atop the tower makes the climb worthwhile.

I chose to visit every country on the planet and film them to present them in High Definition format but in a raw way, without music, without comment. Simply, reality in all its truth. Thus, you will be able to make your own idea of the world in which you live.

BELFRY OF BRUGES & BRUGES BEER TASTING EXPERIENCE
We are in Bruges! (Brugge or Bruges?? It's actually both...)
There are so many things to do in Bruges. Join us as we explore the Belfry of Bruges at the Markt Square, go on a canal boat tour, drink the best hot chocolate in Bruges and Steve samples some delectable beer as he tries out the Bruges beer tasting experience at Le Trappiste, one of the coziest, if a bit touristic, bars in Bruges!
The Belfry of Bruges is an imposing structure at the heart of the city and it was no small feat to climb the 366 steps all the way up to the top and take in the magnificent views, as well as get to see and hear the bells chiming their wonderful songs. It was great to be at the scene of one of our favourite movies... you know the one ;)
We try the best hot chocolate in Bruges and unfortunately every other hot chocolate we have from now on will just not be on par with the chocolatey, thick, gooey deliciousness in a mug that we got to try at Vero Caffe, a lovely cafe serving vegan options, tucked away in a sleepy square.
The canal boat tour we decided to take was definitely our highlight of our trip and definitely one of the best things to do in Bruges. We got a whole new perspective on the medieval city as we were whisked down waterways as old as the city itself.
Le Trappiste is a wonderful bar in a vaulted, brick cellar and for a reasonable price you can saunter down the steps, up to the bar and order 5 beers out of a lengthy list of 21 artisinal ales, beers, lambics and stouts as smooth jazz plays in the background. Steve was excited to try this beer tasting experience to say the least. It was a fantastic way to experience the nightlife in Bruges.
