McLain to construct the first wooden tree frame for the choir to stand on.After the success of the first performance, the Belhaven Singing Christmas Tree became a yearly tradition. Belhaven's Singing Christmas Tree was named one of the top 20 events in the Southeast by the Southeast Tourism Society, and it continually draws in thousands of people each year. The Singing Christmas Tree tradition continues serving the Jackson community by providing a spiritually edifying, fun-filled event of visual and musical splendor.

Water Dance Project, choreographed by Emily Davis
This is the full video of Belhaven University's contribution to the Water Dance Project. National Water Dance (NWD) is a collective of dance artists and educators. Stretching from coast to coast and from Alaska to Florida we are creating a “movement choir”, a simultaneous, site-specific performance of dancers and movers of all ages and experience, to bring attention to the pressing issues of water in the United States.
National Water Dance believes that our environment is an issue of this generation and that artists need to take the lead in addressing it. As dancers we want to use our bodies to create a community that cries out for action. The purpose of our project was to bring awareness to the lead that poisons our drinking water in Jackson, Mississippi. Lead can enter drinking water when service pipes that contain lead corrode, especially where the water has high acidity or low mineral content that corrodes pipes and fixtures. Exposure to lead causes a variety of negative health effects, and affects children and pregnant women in particular.
This project was choreographed, directed, and produced by Emily Davis, a senior dance major at Belhaven University. Special thanks goes to Ms. Cynthia Newland, the director of the dance department, for her guidance in for this project. Special thanks also goes to the cast of Belhaven dance majors and to Hannah Janssen, another senior dance major who assisted with the videography and editing.
