Consett Academy Site.mov
Choice of a green site over a brown site for the proposed Consett Academy sparked controversy in Consett.
Local people believe that the new Consett Academy and Sports Centre should be built on the site of the former steel works at Berry Edge - and NOT on Belle Vue Playing Fields.

First Fleet - Behind the News
On the 26th of January we celebrate Australia Day. But why do we mark it on that day in particular? To answer that question, Sarah will take you back in time to 1788, to meet some kids who came to Australia on the First Fleet.
And if you want to see what conditions were like sailing long distances at that time, watch this story:

Two Policemen Film A UFO In The Skies Above England
THIS is the moment two police officers claim to have captured their close encounter with a UFO on camera.
The duo watched as the cigar shaped object moved slowly across the sky over the North East of England.
Two police officers say they had a close encounter with a UFO – and even managed to capture the unexplained phenomena on camera.
The sighting, which lasted around 30 minutes, is one of hundreds made by police officers over the past 115 years.
Former police detective Gary Heseltine has studied the footage and believes it is genuine.
He said: “It was filmed by two off-duty police officers near Consett, in County Durham. On what was a bright clear day, the object was seen to rotate on its own axis in a vertical position.”

Grateful Addicts Don't Get High - #LOVEOUTLOUD
Grateful Addicts Don't Get High: A 30 Year Drug Problem to Sobriety & Being A Full-Time Father.
This past spring I randomly met Omar while playing basketball in the park. Every time we ran into each other we would exchange stories of hope and healing. I was blown away by the gratitude he would regularly discuss.
After we met, I saw him riding around town with his son on the back of his bike in a child seat. I found out he doesn't have a car and due to his past it's been challenging for him to find a job. So I want to help.
Absolutely no one on this earth should have to ride their bike around in the freezing cold, in the dead of winter, to bring their child to school, get groceries, and continue to inspire others at group meetings.
I believe a guy like Omar, being as inspirational, positive, and kind as he is, needs to be heard and deserves all the blessings coming to him and more.
Sinkholes on M25 and rail lines blocked as heavy rain hits the UK
Sinkholes on M25 and rail lines blocked as heavy rain hits the UK More than 100mm of rain is expected to fall on parts of Britain this week – double the average for the whole of June. On Monday, the South East was the worst hit as flooding in Kent closed all lines through Orpington railway station for several hours, while police shut a section of the M25 overnight after discovering two sinkholes on the central reservation. The motorway was closed in both directions and Highways England warned it was expected to remain shut throughout most of this morning. National Rail has also warned that Southern and Thameslink trains will be heavily impacted during the morning commute, with some services delayed or cancelled due to flooding. Today, northeastern parts of England and the Midlands are expected to bear the brunt of the downpours, with a yellow warning in place until midnight. Some areas set to see up to 60mm of rain, particularly over the first half of the day. Another warning covers Devon and Somerset, where similar conditions are expected.A total of 31 flood alerts - which mean flooding is possible - are in place across the country. The Environment Agency has issued three flood warnings in southeast England, for the River Wandle in Morden, south London, the Emm Brook in Wokingham and Ravensbourne in Bromley. The agency said on its website: River levels have risen as a result of localised thunderstorms. Flooding of property is expected imminently. Please take action. On Wednesday and Thursday, some parts of the UK could be struck by 60mm to 80mm of rain, and possibly even up to 100mm. Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill described the figures as the worst-case scenarios but added that people needed to be aware that we're in for some treacherous weather. If you add it all up some places are likely to see over 100mm this week, which is around double the average they would get in the whole of June. Propeller Mist phenomenon
I rarely see this happen. Even though there were dozens of paramotors warming up that morning, this was the only one doing this- whatever it's called.

#LOL Plymouth (‘Let’s Obliterate Litter’)
In partnership with the Plymouth City Centre Company, Clean Up Britain (cleanupbritain.org) ran a high profile anti-litter pilot project campaign - #LOL Plymouth (‘Let’s Obliterate Litter’) - which took place in Plymouth over a two-week period from January 17th-31st, 2015. The campaign engaged the community living and working in the city centre, in a positive campaign by offering physical rewards (such as free tickets to see Plymouth Argyle, money off vouchers or even a free bag of chips!) to people for putting their litter where it should be - in the bin.
We believe that we can inspire significant and sustained attitudinal and behavioural change in relation to litter among the worst offenders - males (and females) aged between 14 and 26 - by taking an unexpected and engaging approach.
In the same way that drink driving and dog fouling have become socially unacceptable - we want littering to become socially unacceptable too.
