Belkal Thirtha/ Govinda Theertha Falls at Kundapura Taluk Udupi District...
Belkal Thirtha aka Govinda Theertha Falls is one of the most scenic Falls you would get to see because of its locality...
Belkal Thirtha is a two-tier falls with a height of over 400 feet created by a stream of Ketha River... This falls is a big hit among people of Coastal Karnataka because of a procession that takes place every year during the month of December...
The Falls is located under Muduru Gram Panchayat limits of Kundapura Taluk in Udupi District... Though a two-tier falls, one can trek only to the second tier and trekking to the first tier is almost impossible, though it is believed that there's a route from Kodachadri hills which is just 05 Kms away from the tip of the mountain where the falls is located and that the falls is located on the same range of mountains as Kodachadri is located.
Directions to reach the falls:
The falls is located at a distance of some 450 Kms from Bangalore, 40 Kms from Byndoor, 25 Kms from Kollur and Kamalashile and 40 Kms from Kundapura...
From Bangalore there are two routes to reach Muduru, either from Shimoga or from Kundapura
Via Shimoga (either from Kollur or from Kamalashile)
Option 1 from Kollur: Shimoga - Ayanuru - Ripponpet - Hosanagara - Nagara (Take right turn at the junction) - Nittur - Kolluru - Halkal (Take left turn here to reach Jadkal) - Jadkal (Take left turn towards the road leading to Kamalashile) - Salkod - Muduru Udaynagar (Continue straight on a cross road without taking Right turn on the main road else it leads to Kamalashile) - Muduru.
Option 2 from Kamalashile: Shimoga - Thirthahalli or Hosanagara - Masthikatte - Hulikal Ghat - Hosangadi - Kamalashile - Muduru Udaynagar (Take Right turn here without continuing on the main road else it leads to Kolluru) - Muduru
From Mangalore/ Udupi/Kundapura:
After Kundapura continue on the highway to reach a Junction called Hemmady - Take right turn at Hemmady to reach Jadkal via Vandse. At Jadkal take right turn leading to Salkod - Muduru Udaynagar.
From Karwar/Honnavara/Bhatkala:
After you reach Byndoor, continue straight till you get a Junction at Yedthare, where you have to take left turn leading to Kolluru. At Halkal take right turn to reach Jadkal and take left turn at Jadkal to reach Muduru Udaynagar via Salkod.
After you pass Muduru Udaynagar continue on the cross road till you get a small bus shelter and take the mud road just besides the bus shelter leading to Korimukha village - Take left turn at Korimukha village and you reach Shastri Mane (land mark to Belkal Thirtha Falls, the Falls is easily visible from Shastri Mane) - continue on the mud road from Shastri Mane to reach Belkal village - there's a cement road leading to the last house of Belkal village popularly known as Nayakara Mane (Shesha Nayaka's house) which is the starting point for trekking to Belkal Thirtha Falls.
You can park your vehicle in Shesha Nayaka's house and start trekking from there.
It's just an hour Trek from there to Falls.
Throughout there's an established trekking route and you can nowhere get confused or lost in the forest. You have to negotiate some rocks, boulders and fallen trees enroute trekking which is fully steep till you reach the Falls.
Hence be bit careful while trekking. Of course this Falls is not for elderly people.

Road Trip to Kudlu Falls
Kudlu Theertha waterfall is situated about 42 kms away from Udupi, amidst deep jungles of Western Ghats, close to Hebri town. This is one of the most beautiful waterfalls by any standards.
With a height of about 300 feet, it falls directly into a pond which is considered holy by local people, because, sages meditated here thousands of years ago. There is one more waterfall above Kudlu Theertha, called Manga theertha (monkey theertha), named so because, only monkey can reach it as the path is very steep inside the forest.
A visit to Kudlu Theertha will provide an opportunity to be with the nature. It could be the best place for the weekends.
Situated near the banks of river Sita, Kudlu falls is becoming more and more popular among students, trekkers hailing from Mangalore, Suratkal, Manipal and also far off places. Kudlu falls is a very beautiful spot amidst the forest and mountains of Kudlu.
Reaching Kudlu falls is not easy as one may have to walk their way through difficult terrain. It looks as if it is meant for the those who love trekking.
During rainy season, the river will be in spate; hence the ‘all-season’ track which crosses the river cannot be used. One has to go for 30 minutes of walk on hilly terrain and walking of 1.5 kms as the vehicle do not cross the stream at Kudlu gate.
However, the place is calm, serene and isolated. After walking for nearly half an hour amidst the beauty of nature, one can encounter the waterfalls.

This falls is also called Belakal Thirtha and Govinda Thirtha. Around 15 KMs before Kollur take a right turn while coming from Mangalore / Udupi at Jadkal and proceed for 15 KMs via Madur to a village called Belakal. From here trek on a rugged pathway for 2.5 KMs in the Mookambika Wildlife Sanctuary to climb at an average 45 degree elevation to the base of this falls. The ascent would definitely take nothing less than 2 hours and the return would be that much easy that you will come back within an hour. Carry food and FAB. Road from Jadkal right till Belkal is very very bad, drive only a tough car. There are too many cross roads, ask for directions. Take a guide along. It is believed that visiting the nearby two temples after taking bath here on the new moon day of Margashirsha is most auspicious. After February there will be no water till it rains.
