New Hampshire Lakes Region Video Tour
- One of the many benefits of living in Southern New Hampshire is the quick and easy access to our four season backyard playground, The Lakes Region.
Just a 90 minute drive from Nashua, it's truly one of the jewels of New Hampshire.
Early Native Americans called Lake Winnipesaukee The Smile of the Great Spirit. The name still seems appropriate today.
With 283 miles of shoreline, 273 lakes and ponds and 274 habitable islands, Winnipesaukee is the centerpiece of the Lakes Region. Recreational activities abound: boating, swimming, cruises, ice skating, ice fishing and snowmobiling - along with some truly spectacular scenery - make this a four-season vacation destination.
Winnipesaukee is surrounded by three mountain ranges: Ossipee, Belknap and Squam. Also visible is Sandwich Ridge and the Presidential Range, including Mount Washington.
With an exquisite combination of lake and mountain scenery, historic New England charm, a friendly atmosphere and unspoiled natural beauty, the towns in the Lakes Region have it all. Even the oldest summer resort town in America - Wolfeboro - is located on Winnipesaukee. When it comes to recreation, amenities and relaxation, there really is something for everyone.
Gazing over the bare landscape of winter, the blankets of snow covering the mountains, and ice fishing huts dotting the frozen lakes, and memories of summer in the distance, there is a special peace and calm that comes over the region. Yet, there are many wintertime activities after the lake has frozen over, such as ice fishing, ice sailing, cross country and downhill skiing, tubing, snowmobiling and even zip lining!
Each June for nine days the city hosts Laconia Motorcycle Week, internationally recognized as one of the oldest and largest bike rallies in the country. For nearly 100 years, this nine day event draws over a quarter million bikers from all over the world.... and maybe even other worlds to the Lakes Region every summer.

Franklin New Hampshire (NH) Real Estate Tour
Franklin, New Hampshire is a historic mill town in the scenic Lakes Region. Situated at the junction of the Pemigewasset and Winnipesaukee Rivers, which come together to form the Merrimack River, Franklin was settled in 1764 and first incorporated in 1828. Franklin residents enjoy extensive recreational options, including two beaches on Webster Lake, Odell Park, Daniell Park, River's Edge Park and the Veteran's Memorial Ski Area.
Comprised of the lush forests, rugged hills, and cozy rural hamlets surrounding Lake Winnipesaukee, Winnisquam Lake and Squam Lake, New Hampshire's Lakes Region offers boundless opportunity for outdoor recreation, sightseeing, relaxation and leisure. Surrounded by rugged mountains and encompassing 288 miles of shoreline in eight different towns, Lake Winnipesaukee is the premier attraction of the region. Lake Winnipesaukee is nationally known for its annual Ice-Out Contest, in which people try to guess the earliest date that the Mount Washington can safely leave her port in Center Harbor and motor to four other ports (Weirs Beach, Alton Bay, Wolfeboro, and Meredith). Since records began in 1851, ice-out has happened as early as March 29 and as late as May 12, although 90 percent of the time it is declared in April.
Summer brings plentiful options for swimming at Lake Winnipesaukee's nine public beaches, while other popular water sports include boating, waterskiing, canoeing, and fishing. Numerous hiking trails wind through the surrounding Ossipee and Belknap mountain ranges, and New Hampshire's majestic White Mountains are just a half hour's drive north. Residents and vacationers alike enjoy excellent skiing at Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford, majestic vistas at Moultonborough's Castle in the Clouds, numerous shops and restaurants in Laconia, Meredith and Wolfeboro, and nearly a dozen golf courses throughout the region. Video 4) NECN Shawn Carter Priscilla Carter Tim Carter
Shawn Carter Now Facing 2 Charges of First-Degree Murder
The man who allegedly chopped his mother and brother to death in the Belmont home on Sunset Drive that they all shared has been indicted by a Belknap County grand jury for two counts of first-degree homicide. Shawn Carter, 32, was also indicted for two counts of second-degree homicide for the deaths of Priscilla Carter, 59, and Timothy Carter, 39. Each count offers a different theory of each death with first-degree homicide charging that Carter purposely caused the death of his mother and brother. Second-degree homicide means he allegedly recklessly cause their deaths. Priscilla Carter and Timothy Carter were found chopped to death by a Belmont Police officer who went to the house around 11 a.m. on May 24, after one of Priscilla's co-workers called police and reported she was concerned because the woman had not shown up at work. After searching the house, the officer made his startling discovery. Carter was arrested by police in on Rte. 3 in Tilton while driving his mother's car about three hours later. At his probable cause hearing on August 6, Det. Sgt. Joseph Ebert of the N.H. State Police testified that Carter's mother died of 10 chop wounds to her head and body while Timothy Carter died of 23 chop wounds. Police also said Priscilla Carter had been stabbed in the face. Ebert said the N.H. State Medical Officer determined the Carters died between 10 p.m. May 23 to 2 a.m. May 24. Ebert also testified that after applying for a search warrant for the car Carter was driving, police recovered a yellow-handled ax similar to the one Shawn Carter bought at Walmart the week before the homicides in the trunk. Police also said they recovered an atlas (map), a black duffle bag containing mens' clothing, and Priscilla Carter's wallet. Ebert also said police had recovered footage of Carter at the Cumberland Farms store on Court Street in Laconia just after midnight on May 24 wearing a cap that was very similar to the one he was wearing on the day he was arrested. Police said there was blood evidence recovered on one of Carter's boots and on his cap. Carter is being defended by by Robin Wight-Davis and Eric Wolpin. He is being held without bail in the Belknap County House of Corrections.

SUMMARY
=======
Greater Boston is the metropolitan region of New England encompassing the municipality of Boston, the capital of the U.S. state of Massachusetts, and the most populous city in New England, as well as its surrounding areas. The region forms the northern arc of the US northeast megalopolis and as such, Greater Boston can be described as either a metropolitan statistical area (MSA), or as a broader combined statistical area (CSA). The MSA consists of most of the eastern third of Massachusetts, excluding the South Coast region and Cape Cod; while the CSA additionally includes the municipalities of Manchester (the largest city in the U.S. state of New Hampshire), Providence (the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Rhode Island), Worcester, Massachusetts (the second largest city in New England), as well as the South Coast region and Cape Cod in Massachusetts. While the small footprint of the city of Boston itself only contains an estimated 685,094, the urbanization has extended well into surrounding communities, with the MSA having a population of 4,732,161.
Some of Greater Boston's most well-known contributions involve the region's higher education and medical institutions. Greater Boston has been influential upon American history and industry. The region and the state of Massachusetts are global leaders in biotechnology, engineering, higher education, finance, and maritime trade.Over 80% of Massachusetts' population lives in the Greater Boston metropolitan region. Greater Boston is ranked tenth in population among US metropolitan statistical areas, home to 4,732,161 people as of the 2014 US Census estimate, and sixth among combined statistical areas, with a population of 8,099,575. The area has hosted many people and sites significant to American culture and history, particularly American literature, politics, and the American Revolution.
Plymouth was the site of the first colony in New England, founded in 1620 by the Pilgrims, passengers of the Mayflower. In 1692, the town of Salem and surrounding areas experienced one of America's most infamous cases of mass hysteria, the Salem witch trials. In the late 18th century, Boston became known as the Cradle of Liberty for the agitation there that led to the American Revolution.
The Greater Boston region has played a powerful commercial and cultural role in the history of the United States. Before the American Civil War, the region was a center for the abolitionist, temperance, and transcendentalist movements. In 2004, Massachusetts became the first U.S. state to legally recognize same-sex marriage as a result of the decision of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court in Boston. Many prominent American political dynasties have hailed from the Boston region, including the Adams and Kennedy families.
