Karen Brown's Rosturk Woods, Rosturk, Ireland
Welcome to Karen Brown's World of Travel
We would like to share with you one of our recommended hotels in IRELAND
Rosturk Woods in the town of Rosturk
In summer, the driveway of Rosturk Woods is lined with wild red fuchsias that lead you to the low white house hugging a vast expanse of firm, sandy beach on the shores of Clew Bay.
Home to Louisa and Alan Stoney and their young family (Alan grew up in the imposing castle next door, while Louisa's mother lives close by), the house has the feel of an old cottage, though it is only a few years old.
Bedrooms have stripped-pine doors and several have pine-paneled, sloping ceilings.
There's a lot of old pine furniture, antique pieces, and attractive prints and fabrics.
The house cleverly divides so that a wing of two or three large bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen can be closed off and used as self-catering accommodation.
A delightful self-catering cottage has four beds and is equipped for handicapped guests.
Louisa can sometimes direct you to nearby places where traditional Irish music is played.
You can play tennis on the Stoneys' court, or hire their boat for a full- or half-day trip on Clew Bay.
In contrast to the lush green fields and long sandy beaches that hug Clew Bay, a short drive brings you to the wilder, more rugged scenery of Achill Island. To the south lie Newport and Westport.
