As you enter the realm of the rainforests, you will become aware of Life at every step: mushrooms and fungi below, tree trunks festooned with liverworts, lichens and mosses, giant ferns reaching up to the light above, swirling mists and clouds of moisture. And then, from nowhere, comes the sound of rushing water, a waterfall amid this glistening, green world, where you can revive your senses.

Birding from Tandayapa, Ecuador
I volunteered at Tandayapa Bird Lodge for three months in the summer of 2019. This is a video slideshow of the birds I saw both at Tandayapa and nearby locations such as Bellavista, Mashpi, Paz de las Aves, Milpe, Yanacocha and other locations.
Cloud Forest Birds in Mashpi Lodge’s gardens in Ecuador
Clips of bright colorful birds of the Choco cloud forest taken in two different areas where Mashpi puts on plantains for birds to eat. Sometimes mammals also show up to these gardens, as seen near the end of the video with the Tayra. Gardens like this are attractions people can set up almost anywhere there is forest, offering interesting opportunities for wildlife photography. Not all birds come to gardens though, and the way they are designed and the exact location in proximity to native vegetation can greatly influence what species may visit!
Humming birds of Septimo Paraiso in the Ecuador cloud forest of Mindo
I had the good fortune to spend a day at Septimo Paraiso, a fabulous eco-lodge in the cloud forest of Mindo in Ecuador. It is an international haven for biodiversity, especially birds. These are the humming birds that visit the feeders just outside the lodge. Hope you don't get dizzy from me swinging the cam between one feeder and another. Exotic humming bird at 2 min and some great competition at the feeder around 3min30sec
