James River in Richmond Va - Belle Island
Belle Isle is a small (54 acre) island in the James River in Richmond, Virginia in the United States. Belle Isle is owned by the city of Richmond, and has been designated a city park. It is accessible to pedestrian and bicycle traffic via a suspension footbridge that runs under the Robert E. Lee Bridge from the northern shore of the James. Except when the water level of the James is high, it is also reachable by foot from the southern shore via easy boulder-hopping. From Belle Isle, one can see Hollywood Cemetery, the old Tredegar Iron Works, and Richmond City's skyline. Belle Isle has many bike trails around the island, and has a small cliff used for rock climbing instruction.

Belle Isle is a 982-acre (1.534 sq mi; 397 ha) island park in the Detroit River between Michigan and Ontario. The U.S.-Canada border is in the channel south of Belle Isle such that the island is not in Canada. Owned by the city of Detroit, Belle Isle is managed as a state park by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources through a 30-year lease initiated in 2013; it was previously a city park. Belle Isle is the largest city-owned island park in the United States and is the third largest island in the Detroit River after Grosse Ile and Fighting Island. It is connected to mainland Detroit by the MacArthur Bridge.
The island is home to the Belle Isle Aquarium, the Belle Isle Conservatory, the Belle Isle Nature Center, the Detroit Boat Club, the James Scott Memorial Fountain, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, a municipal golf course, a half-mile swimming beach, and numerous monuments, among other attractions. It is also the site of a Coast Guard station. The Detroit Yacht Club sits on an adjacent island, connected to Belle Isle by a bridge. The former Belle Isle Zoo site is now closed.

Urban Hiking Belle Isle in Downtown Richmond, Virginia
Most of my hikes take me away from cities and people, and I don't normally care for hiking municipal parks. Here I make a worthwhile exception and visit downtown Richmond, the capital of Virginia. Right in the heart of the city, there is a pedestrian bridge suspended from Lee Bridge that will take you over the James River to Belle Isle. The island forms part of the James River Park system in Richmond. On the island we can observe Hollywood Rapids on the river. There are also remains of an abandoned rock quarry, including a beautiful pond. The highlight of this hike, however, is a visit to the creepy abandoned hydroelectric dam that once functioned on the Dry Rocks side of the river. Although most of the actual equipment has been removed, the shells of the structures remain, some eerily marked with graffiti.

First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach Review- Episode 91
If you get a chance, RVing at the First Landing State Park in Virginia Beach is well worth the time.
It is amazingly diverse with Cypress swamps, Spanish Moss, wildlife, miles and miles of walking and bike trails. But making it unique is the RV camping sites are right by the beach on Chesapeake Bay, adjacent to home of the US Joint Expeditionary Force training base. The beach is wide and clean and fantastic. Swim, kite surf, or just sit and watch all the Naval ships and amphibious training that seemed to go on every day.
This has to be one of the most diverse State Parks in the country. You feel like being in wilderness, yet are only minutes from major shopping areas in Virginia Beach.
Give it a try and leave a comment with your thoughts.

Greater Detroit Resource Recovery Facility and Belle Isle B-Roll (1989)
2015.008.294
U-Matic S tape containing b-roll footage shot inside and outside of the Greater Detroit Resource Recovery Facility, followed by footage shot around several sites on Belle Isle--the James Scott Memorial Fountain, the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, Central Avenue, Central Avenue, and the Detroit Yacht Club.
The tape begins with footage shot at the Greater Detroit Resource Recovery Facility. Here the camera rolls as loader tractors move trash around in large piles inside the facility, garbage trucks dump their trash, and garbage is ferried along on a conveyor belt. The camera then moves to the facilities exterior for pans across its grounds, before returning to the interior area. Here, the crew films the large trash pile, conveyor belts, a mechanical claw, and a worker in a control room.
The next portion of the video was shot on Belle Isle. It begins with footage of the James Scott Fountain, including zooms from several of the figures decorating it. From the fountain's grounds the camera also is zoomed in and out from the corner of the Casino, the foot of Central Avenue, and the top of Harbortown Spinnaker Tower.
Additional shots follow of the statue of James Scott, people visiting the fountain, people relaxing and exercising on the grass adjacent to the fountain, and the Renaissance Center on the city's skyline.
The camera then moves outside of the Dossin Great Lakes Museum. These shots feature the United States Coast Guard cutter, and the cannons. From the south side of the Strand in front of the Dossin, the camera also gets shots of the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory across the canal to the north, and of nearby bridges over the canal. During this portion part of a WJR radio broadcast can be heard, including an advertisement for Edmund T. Ahee Jewelry. A man and woman are also filmed walking along the Strand to the west of the Dossin.
The camera then moves to Central Avenue, for a zoom out from the Alpheus Starkey Williams Monument, revealing the road to the east. During this stretch of the tape, several motorcyclists are also shown driving across one of the park's fields. The camera also gets a close-up of the sign in front of the Belle Isle Zoo, and several shots of the Belle Isle Playscape from the road.
The final portion of the tape was shot from Riverbank Drive to the south of the Detroit Yacht Club. From here, the camera pans around the club's marina, and zooms out from its sign.
The recording is on a UCA-30s U-Matic S tape with a handwritten 3M label on its top. The tape is housed in a black plastic latching case with a handwritten City of Detroit Department of Public Information Video Production label on its cover. The case also contains a handwritten shot list:

Detroit Belle Isle: East End, William Livingstone Memorial Lighthouse, Blue Heron Lagoon [HD]
Video from: July 4, 2014
The East end of Belle Isle has many features and attractions, including the Blue Heron Lagoon and wetland, the Belle Isle Practice Center for golf, the all marble, Art Deco, Albert Kahn designed William Livingstone Memorial Lighthouse, and Nature Zoo.
The Blue Heron Lagoon is a 41-acre wetland on the east end of the island facing Lake St. Clair. The Free Press reported on June 3, 2013 that $1.5 was being provided to improve the lagoon area through the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative, a federal grant program designed to address areas of concern in the Great Lakes region. A pedestrian bridge has been added, the lagoon is now open to allow the river to run through it, areas that allow baby fish to develop have been improved, breakwaters added to slow the current between the pier and land from the river flow and large freighters' wakes, and the peninsula constructed in the lagoon is having additional submerged and emerged plants planted on it to improve the habitat and develop a biosystem that will support a greater variety of wildlife.
Just to the left of the lagoon is the Belle Isle Practice Center, a place to practice golf. It includes a 30 bay full length driving range, a grass tee, 3 putting greens, 2 large chipping greens with 4 sand traps, and a short, but challenging 5-hole course.
The William Livingstone Memorial Lighthouse opened in 1930 as a navigational aid for boats and freighters going between Lake St. Claire and the Detroit River. It was designed by the Albert Kahn architectural firm and is the only Art Deco lighthouse and the only all marble lighthouse in the United States. It stands 80 feet tall and houses an 11,500 candlepower light said to be visible up to 15 miles away on Lake St. Clair. The memorial was built in honor of William Livingstone, a prominent Detroit resident in the early 1900s and leader in the shipping and navigational industry responsible for many transportation and navigational improvements to the Great Lakes.

Exploring Pocahontas State Park, Virginia
Not long ago, I got a chance to hike around in Pocahontas State Park in Virginia. We checked out a nice trail and ended up at some lake. I have to particularly point out how sad that I am that I did not get video of the cutest horse I've seen in my life while I was walking around... But alas I must move on with my life.

Bear Creek Lake State Park, VA 2-13-17
Bear Creek Lake State Park is a 326 acre park located within the larger 16,000 acre Cumberland State Forest in Cumberland County, Virginia. This central Virginia impoundment is 30 acres in size. On this day I had a little time to kill so I decided to have lunch by the lake. Afterwards I hiked a little on the Catfish Trail. Wasnt planning on using any music but it was actually too windy for me to stand. Lol! And that's saying something as I regularly frequent Dolly Sods in West Virginia, which has to be one of the most windy places in the eastern United States. Thanks for watching!
Downtown Detroit Bass Solo / Bogdon Vasquaf at Belle Isle
My bass solo interpretation of what i see and how i feel at Belle Isle.
The jewel of Downtown Detroit is beautiful Belle Isle in the Detroit River, between the United States mainland and Canada. It is connected to the rest of Detroit, Michigan by the MacArthur Bridge. Belle Isle is the largest island city park in the United States. In 1913, William Edmund Scripps (of the Scripps publishing family), flew a Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company flying boat underneath the Belle Isle Bridge (crazy mo-fo).

Soothing sounds of the James River in Richmond, Virginia
Taken from Belle Isle, a former Union Army, open air prison camp. Now the Isle is a beautiful park with hiking and bike trails, rock climbing in the old granite quarry and ruins of the old industrial days. There is a great walking bridge across the James that gets you there. If visiting the Civil War Center at Tredegar Iron Works, you can walk right over to Belle Isle from there...
