City of Belleville - Business Retention and Expansion Survery
Results of the City of Belleville Business Retention and Expansion Survey were shared with the public, media and business community during a presentation at the Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre on Wednesday December 19, 2012.
This most recent survey was issued to 67 businesses and 44 responded. Those businesses represent more than 6,000 employees including almost 4000 full time staff.
It is critical that we listen to the needs of our local business owners if we are going to continue to grow as a community, said Mayor Neil Ellis. They are sending a clear message that Belleville is an outstanding place to operate a business but we must also address their concerns to maintain that status. One of our goals in 2013 is to fast track this program and increase the amount of dialogue that we have with the businesses in our community. It's essential to our future growth as a community.
The top strengths of our community included quality of life, location, Loyalist College, access to government officials and local labour force while our top challenges include skilled labour supply, local work ethic, taxation and utility rates. The appearance of our downtown was another challenge identified by the businesses in this year's survey.
