TRAILER: Beyond The Roundabout? Moyross/Southill Limerick
FULL FILM NOW AVAILABLE TO WATCH FREE:
Beyond The Roundabout? is a film by Irish artist Nicky Larkin exploring the notorious Moyross & Southill estates in Limerick city. Commissioned by The Irish Arts Council and The Belltable Arts Centre and shot over the course of eight months, it merges documentary with experimental film and video-art as it takes us deep inside Irelands most neglected estates, areas widely regarded as the worst in the country in terms of poverty, crime and deprivation. The Limerick City Council has decided to completely demolish these areas over the next number of years, and rebuild the troubled estates, in an attempt to wipe the slate clean. However, having been promised new homes as part of the City Councils regeneration, the residents are becoming frustrated by the lack of action, living in constant fear amid an endless cycle of gangland violence and murder. But can a superficial transformation such as new homes really address such deep-rooted issues of social exclusion in the city?

CRACKS
An islandwide Tour of their powerful original play exploring mental illness in Ireland
“I’m falling between the cracks in myself, and I don’t know how to crawl back out…”
Quintessence Theatre use their innovative physical ensemble story-telling techniques mingled with multi-media platforms of film and music to poignantly explore the profound struggle individuals with mental illness face on a daily basis in Ireland today.
In this darkly comic and deeply moving new play, an unsuccessful suicide attempt leaves young Leanne Dowd estranged from those she loves and attempting to pick up the pieces of a life still shattered by mental illness.
First devised by the company in 2016 and directed by Anna Simpson (a Creative Associate of the Pleasance and Practitioner with the Globe, London), this new work, already revived multiple times for sell out runs, seeks to expose the lived experience of battling a severe mental illness in an inefficient and unsympathetic system through the eyes of one young woman.

About Quintessence Theatre
Founded in 2015 by director Anna Simpson as the inaugural Theatre Company in Residence of the An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk, Quintessence dedicates itself to exploring the human condition through the most theatrical means available to us: the actor themselves, their imagination, and embracing the live relationship between actor and audience.
We believe in play; we believe in collaboration; we believe in amplifying voices not always heard; and we believe in the democraticisation of art: that it should reach people beyond the cultural hubs of large urban populations; that great work can be made from modest means if you have those quintessential elements: a story, a performer, and audience.
We harness the full potential of the actor’s body through heightened physical approaches, mime and a playful ensemble. We seek to surprise, move and provoke our audiences, entertaining them and creating dynamic, innovative, visceral, compassionate story-telling that finds the new in the familiar, and touches on urgent issues at the heart of Irish society here and now.
Quintessence is run by its core members: performer and Company Manager Leah Rossiter, performer and Producer Anthony Kinahan, performer and Company Liaison Fiona Keenan O’Brien, and led by founder and Artistic Director Anna Simpson.
Previous productions include: The Star of Chester’s Lane (Drogheda Arts Festival Commission Winner 2018), The Deadly Wizard of Oz (2018), Some of Our Children (2018), Romeo & Juliet (2017), The Wind in the Willows (2017), The Warrior of the Táin (2017), Dracula (2017), Grimm Tales (2016), Hamlet (2016), Vessel (2015 & 2016), Alice in Wonderland (2015) and The Picture of Dorian Gray (2015).
