ECO-LUXURY ON A BERKSHIRE MOUNTAIN PEAK
Designed in the style of the legendary Gilded Age estates and meticulously built with all natural, non-toxic materials, this shingled manor house combines old-world craftsmanship with contemporary luxury. Expertly cited on 35 acres buffered by Beartown State Forest with protected, helicopter views to Connecticut, the house pays homage to the Arts & Crafts movement with handsome woodwork and four stone fireplaces in the kitchen, dining room, living room and master bedroom. From the gracious porte cochere, you enter a house defined by its details: Mahogany windows with European-style fenestration; coffered and paneled ceilings; push-button light switches; a fieldstone foyer with radiant heat floors; sinks made from local Alford marble. The large kitchen has a banquette and lounge, central cooking island and a screened-in dining porch. The dining room, living room and guest suite, or possible first-floor master, all have French doors that open onto a multi-level, stone-and-pebble loggia that runs the length of the house. An extra wide staircase with a window seat on the landing leads to the master suite that has arched windows, a paneled ceiling, a private balcony and a sumptuous bathroom with soaking tub and windowed stall shower. The upstairs also has two additional bedrooms and a guest bath. In the valley below the house, there's a four-stall horse barn with a hayloft as well as a large studio or caretaker's quarters that has a full bathroom and a half kitchen. There are pastures, paddocks, an outdoor arena and a private walking trail through the woods. As elegant as it is eco-conscious, this unique and tranquil property is conveniently located just five minutes from the Monterey General Store and fifteen minutes from Great Barrington's Main Street. Built in 2004, this extraordinary property is now and forever will be unequaled in the southern Berkshires.

Corporal Jasper Haddock, 55th Massachusetts Colored Infantry
Corporal Jasper Haddock (1831-1905), a Civil War veteran and great-great grandfather of Debbie McClung Tracy, is buried in the Captina A.M.E. Cemetery in Belmont County, Ohio. Corporal Haddock served in the much-heralded 55th Massachusetts Colored Infantry (which followed closely in the footsteps of the 54th Massachusetts, featured in the movie 'Glory') and was wounded in the Battle of Honey Hill, South Carolina. The Captina Cemetery was long forgotten and in a state of disrepair until a few years ago, when descendants of some of the early Captina-Somerton-Barnesville settlers revived this historic treasure. Corporal Haddock's original headstone, like many of the headstones in the cemetery, was lost long ago to the ravages of time and nature. However, our serendipitous meeting with Barnesville historian Hiram Bowen in the fall of 2012 resulted in the procurement and placement of a new headstone for Corporal Haddock - thanks to his Mr. Bowen's gracious efforts. A brief ceremony to dedicate the new headstone was held at the Captina Cemetery on June 7th, 2013, by Debbie McClung Tracy, Wilma McClung (Corporal Haddock's great grand-daughter) and Doug Tracy. Although the once-thriving African-American settlement of Captina, a haven for both freed and runaway slaves who somehow found their way to the area in the early 1800's with the help of Quaker community and anti-slavery activists, has faded into the ages, its rich and important history still has much to tell us about who we are and how we got here.

Van Life - Young Woman Living in a Van as Full-Time Tiny Home
Clarissa has been living full-time in her retro 80's camper van for 2 years and she's giving us a full tour of her van, and telling us what she loves and struggles with while living in such a small, mobile home.
You can follow Clarissa on Instagram here:
And we want to say a huge thank you to Paul Dussault for filming this video:
Clarissa is currently living in a 1983 Dodge Ram Roadtrek II that she bought for $5,000 CAD.
It has a propane furnace, stovetop and fridge, and she has an auxiliary battery that powers her lights, furnace fan, and water pump. There's also a porta potti toilet in the closet but there is no shower on board.
After a few months of traveling in her van across Canada, Clarissa had to settle down in one place to get a job and so she's currently working two jobs on the West Coast of Canada and she travels on weekends and whenever she has some extra free time.
While living in a van isn't currently helping her save money because she eats out & goes out quite a bit, she admits that it would be easy to do for someone who has that kind of goal.
Thanks for watching!

PART 3 FUTURE BUSINESS MODELS IN CINEMA.mp4
Innovations in production, such as 3D imagery are upping the entertainment value -- and price tag -- in blockbuster movie production. And while moviemakers wrestle with new cost structures for major motion pictures, digital media promotion and distribution channels are changing long-held views on the movie industry's business models.
1) What are the new production technologies that are impacting entertainment value of films? How will these trends reshape movie budgets?
2) How is the globalization and digitalization of movie distribution together reorienting the power structure of the film industry?
3) How will convergence of home entertainment media reshape the way we view media in the coming decade?

S. H. Dudley Kiss Me, Honey, Do rare 1898 Berliner disc John Stromberg song
S. H. Dudley sings Kiss Me, Honey, Do on a Berliner disc issued in 1898. The song is by John Stromberg (1853-1902) and Edgar Smith.
S. H. Dudley (15 January 1864 - 6 June 1947) may have been the most popular baritone to record at the turn of the century, his output by 1900 exceeding that of baritone J. W. Myers.
S. H. Dudley was in the right place at the right time in that his voice suited the crude recording devices of the time better than most. As a featured solo artist he was in studios regularly from 1898 to 1904, after which there is a noticeable drop-off. In a letter to Jim Walsh quoted in the May 1946 issue of Hobbies, Dudley even calls himself the Bing Crosby of 1900, stating that more records were sold of Dudley, Kernell, duets, quartets, than of any other singer of the time. Dudley adds, Too bad the days of royalties had not arrived! The Bing Crosby analogy is misleading since Dudley records did not dramatically outsell those of Arthur Collins, Harry Macdonough, and a handful of other pioneers.
He was born Samuel Holland Rous in Greencastle, Indiana. His father was a professor at Asbury College and then a superintendent of county schools, a position that required constant moving. Rous wrote to Walsh in a letter transcribed in the May 1946 issue of Hobbies, I never even went through high school, but was forced to get a job at 13 when my father lost his hearing and could no longer teach. Then I jumped into opera without ever having a single voice lesson!
The singer adopted the name S. H. Dudley as a stage name early in his career, and this is the name used for most of his Berliner, Victor, and Edison records. Some cylinders from 1898 and early 1899 give the name S. Holland Dudley, including Excelsior cylinders--the three principal Excelsior artists in 1898 were Dudley, Roger Harding, and William F. Hooley.
From mid-1899 onward the shorter S. H. Dudley was used on records. On a few Victor discs, he is identified as Frank Kernell, such as on The Whistling Coon (1982). When making duets with bird imitator Joe Belmont, he also used the name Kernell. His real name, Samuel Holland Rous, appears as the byline for some editions of The Victor Book of the Opera.
He spent some early years of his career singing opera with touring companies, including the Boston Ideal Opera Company.
Walsh states in the October 1962 issue of Hobbies that the Edison Quartet (or Edison Male Quartette) was organized about 1894 to make soft brown wax cylinders. Original members were Roger Harding, J. K. Reynard, S. H. Dudley, and William F. Hooley. An 1896 Edison Quartet photograph once owned by John Bieling and duplicated in the September 1979 issue of Hobbies includes Dudley.
He became important as baritone for the Edison Quartet and Haydn Quartet. Dudley's signature is etched in several Berliner discs of the Haydn Quartet, and he added the word manager after his name (an example is 021, Nearer My God To Thee, recorded on March 23, 1899). He recalled in the 1931 letter that in the earliest days at the studio he sang simple old-fashioned stuff--Old Oaken Buckett [sic]; Hail, Jerusalem--but the singing position was decidedly cramping, as the crude methods of recording made it necessary for us to bump our heads close together.
Soon he made his first solo record for Edison, recalling for Walsh that it was The Chili Widow.
The earliest known discs to feature Dudley as a solo artist are Berliners from 1898, perhaps the first being Tramp, Tramp, Tramp (157), cut on June 10, 1898
Despite his earlier experience singing opera, Dudley was valued in studios for singing popular tunes of the day, including patriotic, marching, and coon songs. The opera background turned invaluable when Dudley later compiled The Victor Book of the Opera
He continued working on The Victor Book of the Opera until around the mid-1930s. Even after he stopped working on editions, many of his summaries continued intact in late editions although his name is nowhere mentioned. Conductor and author Charles O'Connell revised the ninth edition so that photographs of new Victor Red Seal artists replaced old illustrations. Also, additional operas were included and a few new summaries supplanted the old.

Kari Smith sings I Will Wait by Mumford and Sons
Kari Smith sings a cover of I Will Wait by Mumford and Sons at Rare Olde Times Public House in Richmond, VA in April 2019. Harmonizing and looping with TC Helicon Play Acoustic.
About Kari:
Kari Smith gathers crowds with her fresh vocal style and contagious smile, whether it's local fans in a crowded coffee shop, or on stage performing for thousands. Rather than waiting to be discovered, Kari finds her audience in local and regional venues, and fills her time outside of performing with writing, recording, and teaching music.
In 2005, she independently released EP go with you, including the bluesy, driving rhythm of I Call It Love, which was featured in independent film Middle of the Road (August 2005, Red Cactus Films). In August 2006, she followed up with an independently released full-length album, self-titled Kari. Her third record “Gypsy of Love” was released in December 2008 by Music Row producer / engineer Dennis Money on independent label Vanillity Music.
Her first TV appearance in October 2007 featured acoustic performances of her original music on PBS’s “The Music Seen”, and her first network appearance on CBS's “Virginia This Morning” aired in January 2008, and most recently in October and November 2017. She also worked as an extra on Season 2 of ABC’s Nashville in January 2014.
Kari made the move from Richmond, VA to Nashville, TN in 2006 to further her pursuit of performing and writing. In 2013, she began to focusing her attention on her passion for the Hispanic community by performing regularly in Spanish. She has played nearly 100 shows in Spanish and has been featured in Spanish newspaper and Spanish radio in Nashville. After 10 years in Nashville, Kari returned to her native Virginia in 2016 and maintains a busy schedule of live music performances and music instruction.
In addition to frequent solo acoustic performances, Kari performs with other bands in a variety of genres as a vocalist, keyboardist, and rhythm guitarist. Through these experiences, she has had the opportunity to share the stage with such national acts as Huey Lewis & the News, Sugar Ray, Switchfoot, and Eric Heatherly, and Graham Russell of Air Supply. Her powerful rendition of the National Anthem has been heard at Richmond Braves and Flying Squirrels baseball games, national concerts, an Extreme Fighting Championship in Richmond, VA's Coliseum, and the Toughest Cowboy rodeo in Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. Since 2005, she has performed almost 1,000 shows in over 150 different venues in 15 states.
Kari holds an AA in Liberal Arts, and is a member of NSAI (Nashville Songwriter Association International) and ASCAP (American Society of Composers and Publishers.)
