Trip to Belwood Lake Conservation Area - Fergus, Ontario, Canada
Belwood Lake is a 12-kilometre-long reservoir created by the construction of Shand Dam in 1942. It offers excellent boating, fishing and water-skiing. A spring-fed quarry with a sandy beach is a great place to swim. Visitors can walk across the dam and view the reservoir waters as well as enjoy a vista of the Grand River valley far below.

Today I explore Belwood Lake Conservation Area to check out it's accessible fishing spots. Unfortunately as stated in the video, they messed up our boat rental and we had to explore on foot. Good thing we're urban anglers!
Belwood Lake is a small lake that is fed by the Grand River. Because of the recent high water levels, much water was let out of the locks onto the lower part of the Grand. This makes fishing near the locks an ideal spot, although we didn't manage many fish today. The water was very stained with all the flow, making it a little bit tough to fish, especially from the bank.
I will return here in the late fall/winter where I believe massive northern pike and trophy brown trout will be found.
Species caught today: northern pike, catfish, smallmouth Bass
Species spotted: walleye (pickerel), garter snake

Belwood Lake Fishing
Like to find where to fish? I mean a good one, try fish at Belwood lake.
Belwood Lake is located at 8282 Wellington County Rd. 18, RR #4, Fergus, ON N1M 2W5. It was created in 1942 with the construction of the Shand Dam, the first dam in Canada built solely for water control purposes. Conservation area visitors can stand on the top deck of the dam and see the vista of the Grand River valley below. A stairway along the face of the dam allows visitors to walk down to its base. The flow from the dam is used to generate hydroelectricity. The 12 km-long lake (7.5 miles) offers excellent boating, fishing and water-skiing, while a small spring-fed quarry offers an ideal spot for people to cool off on hot summer days.
Enjoy your Belwood lake fishing!

Belwood Lake Conservation is a great place if you're looking to catch bass, pike, walleye and perch. Part of the Grand River watershed this lake provides great angling and a nice boat launch located at the park. This episode has plenty of fish caught. Seagulls dumping on us. And myself taking a fish hook in the arm! Lots of fun for us on this day. Enjoy. Cheers!

Fergus, Ontario: Driving Tour Through Town (March 10, 2018)
On March 10, 2018, we videoed a driving tour through the town of Fergus, Ontario.
Our route took us into town from the south via Highway 6 (Tower Street). Due to construction and the closure of the St. David Street bridge, across the Grand River, we continued on Tower Street before turning right on St. George St. and taking a left on St. David. We restarted the tour on St. Andrew Street, at the east end of downtown. We took that road west and to the outskirts of town, toward Elora.
Fergus, Ontario is an unincorporated community in the township of Centre Wellington and Wellington County. The town has a rapidly growing population that has surpassed 21,000.
Located on the Grand River, downstream from Belwood Lake and above the Elora Gorge, Fergus is just 18 kilometres north of the larger city of Guelph. We covered Guelph in an earlier video - see it here:
The town was settled in 1833 and was incorporated as a village in 1858. The name is in honour of one of the founders, Adam Fergusson.
A haven of Scottish heritage, the town is home to the annual Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games, an event held each year in August, since 1946.
Fergus is the birthplace of former NHL goaltender Ed Chadwick. Chadwick played for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins. It is also the birthplace to an Ironman Triathlon great, Lori Bowden.
