Viet Cong and Củ Chi Tunnels in Ben Dinh, Vietnam
If you are traveling to Vietnam for your holiday, and want to learn more about the Vietnam war, make sure to visit the Củ Chi Tunnels in Ben Dinh.
The tunnels of Củ Chi are an immense network of connecting underground tunnels located in the Củ Chi District of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and are part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country. The Củ Chi tunnels were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War, and were the Viet Cong's base of operations for the Tết Offensive in 1968.
The tunnels were used by Viet Cong soldiers as hiding spots during combat, as well as serving as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon caches and living quarters for numerous North Vietnamese fighters. The tunnel systems were of great importance to the Viet Cong in their resistance to American forces, and helped to counter the growing American military effort.
Do Not Book A Tour To The Cu Chi Tunnels!
For convenience sake many people will book a tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels with their hotels or online platforms. What many people most of the time do not know is that there are two tunnels found in Ho Chi Minh. The Ben Dinh tunnels where most if not all tour buses go is a reconstruction or replica of the tunnels that were built to accommodate big built tourists or western tourists. If you want to see the original or real Cu Chi tunnels better hire a private vehicle for your group or commute going to the original site called Ben Duoc!

Infamous CU CHI TUNNELS Day Trip From Saigon, Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City)
On the outskirts of Saigon is the Cu Chi District and the infamous Cu Chi Tunnels, central site of the Vietnam War. This is a popular side trip from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) and can be accomplished in a little under a day. This is both of huge historical importance (and an important lesson of David and Goliath proportions) and is fascinating to learn of how the Viet Song survived and got the upper hand.
Here's a quick teaser of what you might see and experience if you decide to take the tour!

CU CHI TUNNELS || The Cheapest Way
We visited Vietnam's Cu Chi Tunnels on the outskirts of Saigon. Ben Dinh is the tourist hot spot, normally where the bus tours will take you. But we went the locals route via the local bus to visit the other tunnels in Ben Duoc. We did get lost one or two... or three times but it was all worth it in the end.
The itinerary:
- Cong Vien 23/9 Bus Terminal (District 1)
- Take bus 13 to the final stop Cu Chi (10,000 VND)
- Take bus 79 (6,000 VND)
- Get off at Ben Duoc Temple (Use GPS or ask driver - there's also a huge sign that we missed... first time going the wrong way)
- The temple is also where the tunnels are
Tickets are purchased on arrival (90,000 VND)

What’s Included In A Cu Chi Tunnel Tour? Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam ????????
Today we explore on what to expect in a Cu Chi Tunnels Tour when you're in Ho Chi Minh City. If it's your first ever visit, then you must visit the Cu Chi Tunnels in Saigon, Vietnam.
Welcome to Saigon, Vietnam! In this series of videos we're exploring the streets of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for the first time. What an experience it was! Our adventure continues in search of their rich culture, history and local food favorites. We partnered with Onetrip to help us achieve this task.
Tour Agency : Onetrip and
Grateful that we had an authentic Vietnamese experience. We can honestly say, Onetrip organised one of the best tours we've partnered with thus far. Our second day in Saigon was well planned out by their team, an itinerary that seemed perfect for solo travelers or even large groups. As we always travel as a family, they ensured all our needs were met perfectly.
Visiting the Cu Chi tunnels was high on our bucket list. As a tourist, what's important is to take note first here is that, there are two tunnels operating in Ho Chi Minh City where tour companies may take you.
One of them is, the Ben Dinh tunnels, where most tour companies would likely take you - much closer to the city, but be aware, the tunnels found here, are mainly reconstructions or replicas of the originals, built to accommodate tourists who were more on the plus size / foreigners / western tourists.
We instead wanted to experience the real deal, and Onetrip was on point with that.
We visited the Ben Duoc tunnels system instead, famous with the locals, and most definitely, the most historically interesting site in the country, deserving of a visit compared with the other site usually offered to tourists. Yes, it is much further out of the city, but you will not find the site overcrowded with tourists.
We all know that the Viet Cong created these network of tunnels in the Vietnamese jungle in order to evade the American forces, and it was these incredible network of connecting underground tunnels that played an integral role during the Vietnam (American) War.
Our itinerary began with Onetrip organising an early morning pickup from our hotel and quickly treating us to a breakfast pit stop where we had wonderful morning ice coffee, banh mi sandwiches and local fruits. Our day two breakfast location was this time at the Hóc Môn District. Never knew ice coffee would taste that good, weeks after our return, and I'm still searching for a cafe to beat what we had here at this location.
Next, we visited a home based rice noodle factory away from the city. This was an eye-opener for us. Stopping by local businesses along the way helped us learn about the local crafts and industries. Though their production methods and machinery were not state-of-the-art, but we surely admired their creativity and hard work put in producing such incredible results.
Vietnamese food, history, scenery, culture, and local industries, we covered them all in just this one day!
Something definitely we would highly recommend, and something everyone should plan to do if you're visiting Saigon for the very first time!
Thanks everyone!

Cu Chi Tunnels | Ho Chi Minh (Saigon)
The Ben Douc Cu Chi Tunnels are located 70km Northwest of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). They are a vast network of underground tunnels and bunkers that the Viet Cong used to hide in and fight American soldiers during the Vietnam War.
The tunnels have up to 3 levels and some goes as deep as 10m. We visited the Ben Duoc Tunnels, rather than the busier, more popular Ben Dinh Tunnels. They are the incredible result of a resilient, determined people.
The tunnels are barely big enough to squat in. We traversed one tunnel for 50 metres and our legs were burning with the strain. The Vietnamese people lived in these tunnels for years, fending off American soldiers. It is amazing.
I hope you enjoy this video as much as I enjoyed making it.

Cu Chi Tunnels Experience (daytrip from Ho Chi Minh by local Vietnamese bus) | Vietnam Travel
We spent the day exploring the famous Cu Chi Tunnels which are just a couple of hours outside of Ho Chi Minh City. We took the local Vietnamese buses from Ho Chi Minh City all the way there, it was pretty simple and took around 2.5 hours.
We chose to visit the Ben Duoc tunnels as we'd heard these were a bit quieter and slightly more authentic than the more well-known Ben Dinh tunnels, though this did mean a fair amount of bus travel!
We really enjoyed the visit, Rob found it to be an especially memorable experience since he kept getting stuck in the tiny tunnels!!
To treat ourselves we finished the day with an amazing Egg Coffee!! Our first yet! Egg Coffee was so tasty just like most Vietnamese food.

Cu Chi Tunnel in Ho Chi Minh City
The tunnels of Củ Chi are an immense network of connecting underground tunnels located in the Củ Chi district of Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam, and are part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country. The tunnel systems were of great importance to the Viet Cong in their resistance to American forces, and helped to counter the growing American military effort.
The 75-mile (121 km)-long complex of tunnels at Củ Chi has been preserved by the government of Vietnam, and turned into a war memorial park with two different tunnel display sites, Ben Dinh and Ben Duoc. The tunnels are a popular tourist attraction, and visitors are invited to crawl around in the safer parts of the tunnel system. The Ben Duoc site contains part of the original tunnel system, while the Ben Dinh site, closer to Saigon, has tunnel reconstructions and some tunnels have been made larger to accommodate the larger size of Western tourists.
