AOPA Australia chats to Craig Morrison from Benalla Aviation Museum in the Studio
World Gliding Championships, Benalla, Victoria. Jan/Feb 1987.
The World Gliding Championships were held at Benalla, Victoria, Australia, between January and February, 1987. My late brother Charlie and myself were/are former glider pilots, and members of the Gliding Club of Victoria, where the event took place . Charlie was at the opening ceremony on the 17th of January, 1987, to video general scenes, and catch some of the air display on that day. The source VHS tape is quite worn, and there are bits that jump around a bit, but that's what you get with 32 year old equipment. I have edited out the actual Opening Ceremony, which just featured a bunch of politicians waffling on. I hope you enjoy.

I was holding the camera above my head the whole time and my arms were dying which is why the video is so shaky, but in the end I managed to get the whole thing. My camera automatically cut off after half an hour though, so there's also a tiny Part 2 less than one minute long.
I was standing just a bit north of the corner of George and King Street.
