Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Pittsburgh ( PITS-burg) is a city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the United States, and is the county seat of Allegheny County. As of 2017, a population of 305,704 lives within the city limits, making it the 63rd-largest city in the U.S. The metropolitan population of 2,353,045 is the largest in both the Ohio Valley and Appalachia, the second-largest in Pennsylvania (behind Philadelphia), and the 26th-largest in the U.S.
Located at the confluence of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio rivers, Pittsburgh is known both as the Steel City for its more than 300 steel-related businesses and as the City of Bridges for its 446 bridges. The city features 30 skyscrapers, two inclined railways, a pre-revolutionary fortification and the Point State Park at the confluence of the rivers. The city developed as a vital link of the Atlantic coast and Midwest, as the mineral-rich Allegheny Mountains made the area coveted by the French and British empires, Virginians, Whiskey Rebels, and Civil War raiders.Aside from steel, Pittsburgh has led in manufacturing of aluminum, glass, shipbuilding, petroleum, foods, sports, transportation, computing, autos, and electronics. For part of the 20th century, Pittsburgh was behind only New York and Chicago in corporate headquarters employment; it had the most U.S. stockholders per capita. America's 1980s deindustrialization laid off area blue-collar workers and thousands of downtown white-collar workers when the longtime Pittsburgh-based world headquarters moved out. This heritage left the area with renowned museums, medical centers, parks, research centers, and a diverse cultural district.Today, Google, Apple Inc., Bosch, Facebook, Uber, Nokia, Autodesk, Microsoft and IBM are among 1,600 technology firms generating $20.7 billion in annual Pittsburgh payrolls. The area has served as the long-time federal agency headquarters for cyber defense, software engineering, robotics, energy research and the nuclear navy. The area is home to 68 colleges and universities, including research and development leaders Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. The nation's eighth-largest bank, eight Fortune 500 companies, and six of the top 300 U.S. law firms make their global headquarters in the are ...

2014 Honorary Member of the Year
Presented by James W. Kastner to Arthur P. Ziegler, Jr. of the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation.
By the war years of the 1940s Pittsburgh was firmly established and both the “Arsenal of Democracy,” providing plenty of steel, aluminum and machinery for the war effort and the “Smoky City” with smog so thick the street lights would burn during the day. Beginning in the late 1940s the city, led by Mayor David L. Lawrence, entered what has become known as Renaissance One. Major initiatives aimed to improve air quality and clean up the rivers, led to urban revitalization efforts which, in some instances, saw the destruction of historic property and entire neighborhoods. While many of these programs held the best intention at heart, fifty plus years later, we realize that not every initiative was right for our city.
By 1961, Arthur P. Ziegler had already received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, continued his education at Union Theological Seminary in New York City and Western Reserve University in Cleveland and returned home to Pittsburgh. In 1964 he co-founded the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation to combat urban renewal policies that devastated sections of Pittsburgh – literally and culturally. Forty years later, Mr. Ziegler continues to promote and utilize historic preservation as an effective means to create sustainable, affordable housing, healthy neighborhoods and economic development. His work has been as much about social justice for disenfranchised populations as it has been about preserving important places.
Mr. Ziegler’s preservation efforts created Pittsburgh’s famous Station Square and fostered a positive attitude toward preservation in Pittsburgh that stabilized many of its historic neighborhoods and created an environment in which the restoration of the Loew’s Penn Theatre as Heinz Hall, the Stanley Theatre as the Benedum Center, and the Gaiety as the Byham Theatre were made not only possible but inevitable.
Arthur Ziegler has authored 10 books on historic preservation and is the recipient of The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Crowninshield Award, the President of United States’ Private Sector Achievement Award, and the Preservation Pennsylvania Otto Haas Award. He is also a WQED Pittsburgher of the Year and Southside Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year. He currently is president the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation and its subsidiaries Landmarks Financial, Landmarks Development Corporation, and Landmarks Community Capital Corporation.
Recorded at the 2014 Conclave Theatre Tour in Pittsburgh, PA.
