Japan: Part 3 - Beppu
One of my favorite port stops was in Beppu, where we visited the Mt. Takasaki Wild Monkey Park (高崎山自然動物園) and the Umitamago Aquarium. Takasakiyama is home to over 1,500 Japanese macaques and it was fascinating to see them so close up and in their own environment. After spending time with the monkeys, we headed to the nearby aquarium to look at all sorts of marine life and even more importantly, got some much needed air conditioning. ;)

This island also has lots of oysters and its the site of the famous floating torii gate. The island is only 30mins away from Hiroshima. Make sure to visit it when you visit the city of Hiroshima.

Beppu.
It is super-famous as an international hot spring resort, and its huge spa area is called Fountain Capital. The number of sources is 2,100 places nationwide source of 1/10, the total amount of hot water is also nationwide. If you talk about history you will write down a number of pages so leave it to a wiki etc, it will be sold out but let's just review the points.
From the Heian period, Beppu Hot Springs and Iron Ring Hot Springs from the Kamakura period, Hamawaki Onsen flourished as Monza Town of Hachiman Asami Shrine. Kurokawa Onsen etc. along the highway will be opened when Yuji boats from Setouchi get together and enter the Edo era and get crowded.
And civilization opening. When the Beppu Port was renovated in Meiji 4, as the route from Osaka was opened, more and more people come to visit and develop from hot spring resort to hot spring city. The Beppu station in Meiji 44 opened, a red light district where shops, restaurants, and entertainment facilities were arranged was formed between the station and the harbor as a result of the launch of the Osaka merchant vessel 's large ship' Red MARU '.
Speaking of hot spring towns, it is a historic tourist destination. And in the former sightseeing spot Urusi is inevitable. If Beppu is a huge fountain capital, you may call it another name play city. In this trip, I will pay attention to that irrigation, I think to walk from the edge of Beppu to the edge.

The Once Imperial Capital of Japan, Asuka
This particular two-week journey through Japan involved a LOT of public transportation; interesting but tiring. The entire group but us bicycled to the important sights of Asuka once we arrived but I have unfortunately lost whatever balance I once had on a bicycle and we bused there and met them. It is not true that once you learn to ride a bike you never forget.
Asukadera Temple was founded in 596, about 60 years after Buddhism came to Japan and was constructed as Japan's first full-scale temple. The highlight inside is the Asuka Great Buddha statue in the temple's main hall which is the oldest known Japanese statue of Buddha in existence.
A wonderful Sushi lunch, walk to a humungous burial mound and it was time to move along...
Mojiko in Kitakyushu - Mojiko Retro and delicious food at the narrowest point of the Kanmon Straits
Mojiko (Moji Port) 門司港 北九州
Mojiko - Moji Port - is a port in the city of Kitakyushu, in Fukuoka prefecture, and is strategically located at the narrowest point of the Kanmon Straits that separate Kyushu - the island it is on - from the main island of Honshu. Mojiko developed into a major international and domestic port at the end of the 19th century.
Moji was one of five towns and cities that merged in 1963 to become Kitakyushu-shi (Kitakyushu city). Besides Moji, the other merged towns were Kokura, Tobata, Yahata with its main attraction of Space World, and Wakamatsu.
Since the opening of Mojiko as a modern, new port, the area around old Mojiko port has been turned into a tourist attraction under the slogan Mojiko Retro.
Mojiko is small enough to be explored on foot, or bicycles can be rented near the inner harbor.
The terminus of the first railway line built in Kyushu, Mojiko Station is the most likely place of arrival for visitors. Built-in 1914 it is one of the few remaining large wooden stations in Japan and was the first station to be listed as a National Cultural Property.
Mojiko Station is built in a Neo-Renaissance style and is claimed to be based on the old Termini Station in Rome, but that seems unlikely. Until 2018 the station is undergoing major renovations and will likely be shrouded in scaffolding.

Fukuoka - Japan's 6th Largest City Part I
Fukuoka - Japan's 6th Largest City Part I - Fukuoka (福岡市 Fukuoka-shi?) is the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture and is situated on the northern shore of the island of Kyushu in Japan.
Ranked 12th of the world's most livable cities in the magazine Monocle in 2013, Fukuoka was praised for its green spaces in a metropolitan setting.[1] It is the most populous city in Kyushu, followed by Kitakyushu. It is the largest city and metropolitan area west of Keihanshin. The city was designated on April 1, 1972, by government ordinance. Greater Fukuoka (福岡都市圏?), with 2.5 million people (2005 census), is part of the heavily industrialized Fukuoka–Kitakyushu zone as well as Northern Kyushu.
As of July 2011, Fukuoka is Japan's 6th largest city, having passed the population of Kyoto. This marks the first time that a city west of the Kinki region has a larger population than Kyoto since the founding of Kyoto in 794. In ancient times, however, the area near Fukuoka, the Chikushi region, was thought[by whom?] to be perhaps even more influential than the Yamato region.
Fukuoka was sometimes called the Port of Dazaifu (大宰府, 15 km (9 mi) southeast from Fukuoka). Dazaifu was an administrative capital in 663 A.D., but a historian proposed that a prehistoric capital was in the area.[4] Ancient texts, such as the Kojiki, Kanyen (found in Dazaifu) and archaeology confirm this was a very critical place in the founding of Japan.
Fukuoka has a humid subtropical climate and it has hot humid summers and relatively mild winters. The city also sees on average about 1,600 mm (63 in) of precipitation per year, with a stretch of more intense precipitation between the months of June and September. Along with much of the prefecture, Fukuoka City has a moderate climate with an annual average temperature of 16.3 °C (61 °F), average humidity of 70% and 1,811 annual daylight hours. Roughly 40% of the year is cloudy. More Info:

A day in Kitakyushu | 北九州の一日
Kitakyushu is the northernmost city on Japan's Kyushu Island. It is one of those places that deserve to be more popular than they currently are. If you are thinking going beyond Tokyo, Osaka and other main cities of Japan, you must include Kitakyushu in your itinerary, as most of it can be covered in a day or two.
A good way to reach there is to board a Shinkansen (bullet train) up to Kokura station which is the main JR station of Kitakyushu city. Enjoy your trip to Kitakyushu and let me know your favorite place in Japan
Hope you enjoy the video.

Historic, Romantic, Exotic
Sitting on the westernmost tip of Japan, Nagasaki began life as a port for international trade. An influx of Western and Chinese skills and culture has created a fusion of traditions which cannot be seen anywhere else in Japan. Architecture, food and festivals have all taken on a multicultural flavor which gives vibrancy to this stunning port city.
Having recovered from the devastation of the 1945 atomic bombing, we are now known as a city which promotes world peace. Our Peace Park and Atomic Bomb Museum offer visitors a chance to contemplate world peace initiatives.
So come and explore the charm of our sloping streets, take a bite of our unique cuisine, learn about world peace, and watch the lights from the houses twinkle at night.
