Mukinbudin
The 1981 census showed clearly what the primary industry in the area was, with only 931 people and 147,000 sheep. Wheat is another of the area's main income earners.
Mukinbudn is the last major town in the north east wheatbelt. Bonnie Rock is the only centre further out but that is not really a town these days.
The town is neat and tidy with a good rest area a clean, modern public toilets. The BP garage provides fuel but across the railway there is also a 24 hour fuel station if the BP happens to be closed.
The local caravan park is excellent and boasts one of the best camp kitchens you will find anywhere.
If you need to stock up on supplies, there is an IGA and also a good hardware store in town.

Mukinbudin, Western Australia by Drone | Amazing DJI Mavic Pro Drone Video of Farming & Outback |
DJI Mavic Pro drone footage filmed around the Mukinbudin Shire in Western Australia showing outback Australia at it's best.
Mukinbudin is a small town located approximately 300km East of Perth in Western Australia. Home to around 300 people, the shire contains numerous hidden gems that many overlook. Some of the locations in the video include:
- Elachbutting
- Eagle Stone
- Jinadarra, dardy rock
- Beringbooding
- A closed feldspar mine just west of the townsite
- CBH at Mukinbudin townsite
- Football oval at Mukinbudin townsite
All footage was filmed over the course of one day. At all times there were 3 spotters involved in the drone videography process - The large zoom out shots were performed by connecting two controllers to the DJI Mavic and operating via radio communications to ensure safe procedure. Formalised risk assessments were completed between the powered parachute pilot and drone operator (myself). CASA was contacted before the operation to ensure all laws regulations were obeyed in the production of this project.

Sandfords Rocks | AUSTRALIA'S GOLDEN OUTBACK | Cinematic Mavic Pro 2 Video
Sandford rocks were named after surveyor Henry Sandford King who was active in the area in the late 1880s. He was Surveyor General of Western Australia from 1918-23.
We doubt if you will be disappointed. The rocks are home to a marvellous array of trees and plants - native peaches and sandalwood, wattles, myrtles, native orchids, tiny carnivorous plants and a profusion of colour, all emerging in a low phosphate environment.
Home to rock wallaby, numerous gnamma holes. Every little waterhole is worth looking at. They contain a profusion of life - tiny banded tadpoles, waterfleas and other creatures. The rocks are upholstered in lichens. The wind blows cold around you and civilisation is somewhere else. What a marvellous spiritual experience it is to visit such a place. No shops, no advertisements, Mother Nature totally in charge.
There's a little walk trail and places to sit for a picnic lunch. And from the summit, spectacular views of the impact of goldmining at Westonia. An authentic wild experience.
It protects 806ha of granite outcrop, pools, wildflowers, scrub and woodland. It has many diverse species of flora and fauna. The Sandford Rocks Discovery Trail guide booklet is available from the Shire Office.
