1. The canton of Bern is the second largest of the 26 Swiss cantons by both surface area and population.
2. Old Bern, connected by several bridges to newer parts of the city on the right bank, preserves more of its medieval appearance than any other Swiss city. It is characterized by 2.3 square miles (6 square km) of covered arcades, towers, and 16th-century fountains. A favourite decorative motif is the bear (Old High German: bero), commemorating the legend of the first animal killed by Berthold V in the year the city was founded; this legend is said to be the source of the city’s name. Perhaps the most famous Bern landmark is the bear pit, where bears have been kept on display at the city’s expense since 1480. Old Bern was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1983.
3. Bern’s official title is Bundesstadt, or Federal City, rather than Hauptstadt, or capital city. Switzerland technically has no capital but since 1848, Bern has been the seat of the Federal Parliament and government so is the de facto capital.
4. Biel-Bienne has a population of about 51'000 inhabitants and is situated about 26 km north-west of Bern. Biel-Bienne is bilingual German and French and is the only Swiss city where official documents must be available in both languages. Biel-Bienne is central to the Swiss watch-making industry. Rolex and the Swatch Group both have factories or headquarters located there.
5. Emmental (Emmentaler, Emmenthal, or often known as Swiss cheese) is a yellow, medium-hard Swiss cheese that originated in the area around Emmental, Canton Bern. It has a savory but mild taste.
6. Albert Einstein worked on his famous Theory of Relativity in Bern. Today, visitors can see where he called home at the Das Einstein Haus, another of the city’s great tourist attractions.
7. The triangular chocolate was invented by Theodor Tobler in 1908 and every piece is still made in Bern.

NURSEUROPE (Vlog 9) : BERN - Capital City of Switzerland
Bern, the capital city of Switzerland, is built around a crook in the Aare River. It traces its origins back to the 12th century, with medieval architecture preserved in the Altstadt (Old Town). The Swiss Parliament and diplomats meet in the Neo-Renaissance Bundeshaus (Federal Palace). The Französische Kirche (French Church) and the nearby medieval tower known as the Zytglogge both date to the 13th century.

The pretty Heart of Switzerland: 7 Facts about Lucerne
In this video you can find 7 little known facts about Lucerne. Keep watching and subscribe, as more episodes will follow!

More information about the video content bellow:
1. The canton of Lucerne is a canton of Switzerland. It is located in the centre of Switzerland. Tourism is of great importance. The canton of Lucerne is a gateway to holiday resorts in the nearby Alps, and much of the transit traffic between Germany and Italy crosses the region.
2. Once on the place of Lucerne there was a little village. One night the villagers saw an angel holding a lantern in the sky. Lighting the road with this lantern, he showed the people to a place, where later on they built a monastery. The settlement around it grew and in time turned into a city, named Lucerne, which means “luminous”, as the place that was illuminated by the angel.
3. Interesting, that Lucerne was the city that initiated the creation of the Swiss Confederation. For quite some time since 1290, when the population had risen to about 3000 inhabitants and the city itself had become powerful and self-sufficient, Lucerne had been under the rule of King Rudolph I von Habsburg, who after obtaining authority over the Monastery of St. Leodegar, secured all its lands, including Lucerne, by the Habsburgs as well.
4. Nestled at the foot of the majestic Swiss Alps and on the shores of crystal blue Lake Lucerne, entwined by an equally blue ribbon of the river Reuss, this beautifully idyllic place, full of intricately decorated houses with centuries-old ornaments, towers and spires, which are proudly rising in the blue skies similarly to neighbouring mounts Pilatus and Rigi, without a doubt justifies the claim of being the most beautiful city in Switzerland.
5. Chapel Bridge (Kapellbrücke): a 200 m long covered wooden bridge in the city center, with 111 paintings in the inside. Attached is the Water Tower, which dates back to about 1300. The bridge is accessible on foot from the train station in 5 minutes. The Spreuer Bridge or the Mill Bridge, as it is also called, is one of the famous wooden covered bridges, located not fat from the Chapel Bridge – downriver, between the Kasernenplatz and the Mühlenplatz, zigzaging across the Reuss. It was constructed in 1408 and features a series of medieval-style 17th century plague paintings by Kaspar Meglinger, titled Dance of Death (Totentanzzyklus).
6. The Swiss Museum of Transport is one of the most interesting in the world and the largest comprehensive museum in Europe exhibiting all forms of transport, starting from locomotives, automobiles, motorcycles, ships and ending by aircraft and space shuttles.
7. The emotional outpourings of Edouard Castres are most vividly captured in a 112 meters by 10 meters giant circular panoramic painting, famously called the Bourbaki panorama. The travails of soldiers caught in the German-French war of 1870-1871, under the French General Bourbaki, and the heart-rending miseries endured by civilians is so poignantly brought to life by the paintbrush strokes of the painter that one can feel the anguish simply viewing it. Edouard, who participated in the war as a Red Cross volunteer, has made the canvas come alive with the most realistic portrayal of this war.

Driver's Eye View - Meiringen to Innertkirchen (Switzerland)
Meiringen was the destination of the train I had caught from Interlaken. I had a short wait before catching my next train, giving me time for a coffee, as I walked down the platform a single carriage train arrived. Curiosity got the better of me and I walked towards this little train to find out where it had come from. The driver was very amiable, suggesting I take a ride to the end of the line and he would have me back in time to catch my train. So I purchased a ticket from the on-board ticket machine and sat in the passenger seat next to the driver. Where else in the world can passengers ride with driver? Sit back and enjoy the view with me as we set off down this scenic local branch line.
