Bernardinai Garden is a public park in the city of Vilnius, Lithuania. It is located on the right bank of the Vilnia River between the Gediminas Tower and Bernardine Monastery and it covers over 9 hectares.
Until the 14th century, in the territory of Bernardinai garden there was a Lithuanian pagan saint oaks wood. After Christianity the oaks were cut down and in 1469, when Lithuanian Grand Duke Kazimieras invited the Bernardine monks to Vilnius, the park was created. The monks rearranged the territory, set up a botanic exposition and did a lot of oher things.

A very interesting this I noted and experienced in Vilnius was Yoga in the park. People had gathered and were practicing Yoga, that is good utilization of summer weather and public space :)

The Gate of Dawn, Vilnius, Lithuania
Several centuries ago, the Gate of Dawn, Ausros Vartai, was one of 10 gates in the defensive wall of Vilnius. The Gate of Dawn is the only one to have survived. The miraculous painting of Mother Mary contained in this gate is a vast pilgrimage site for Polish pilgrims. They, along with others, believe the painting can heal. Silver, bronze and other votive offerings of body parts, etc. cover the walls. Notice the little arms, legs and many, many hearts...possibly broken hearts?

Relaxed Evening in Bernardine Park Vilnius Lithuania
Bernardine Park is a small park next to the Vilnius Old town and a good place to be. All sorts of people flock the place in the evening, there are runners, cyclists, yogis, young children, couples, tourists (like myself) and if you have time this is a good place to sit and relax; and of course, they have a mini fountain to make your day :)

Sereikiškės Park (previously known as Bernardine or Youth Garden)[1] is a public park in the city of Vilnius, Lithuania. It is located on the right bank of the Vilnia River between the Gediminas Tower and Bernardine Monastery. Most of its territory is parkland, including a children's amusement park. It hosts a variety of festivals and exhibitions, including an amateur chess championship of Ostap Bender.[2]
At first the area was a swampy land surrounded on two sides by the Vilnia River. When the park was acquired by the Bernardines during the 18th century, the monks drained the territory and established a park, mainly used by their religious community.[1] During the early 19th century, the order established a botanical garden there. It was closed in 1842 and later served as the personal garden of the Governor General and as a summering area for the local gentry. At the end of the 19th century it became a public space with an entertainment garden, theatre, open stage, and restaurant. Tennis courts and sporting grounds were added after World War I.

Walking Tour of Vilnius

We did a free walking tour of Vilnius, led by a very engaging young lady, who took us to places that we might not otherwise have seen. It was a very enjoyable walk, and we ended up in a local restaurant, which was not bad.

Bernardine Cemetery (Vilnius) Бернардинское кладбище (Вильнюс)
Старое Бернардинское кладбище часто посещают туристы. Кладбище, занимающее площадь 3,87 гектара, оборудовано в 1810 году. В 1827 году построена часовня с катакомбами в подземелье.
