Hi Indonesia Mother Temple of Besakih, Bali
A large number of temples in Bali are considered iconic of tourism the island. One of such famous temples is the Besakih, mother of all temples in the Island of the Gods. Why is Besakih a must-see place? Find out the answer here.
Everywhere in Indonesia there is a house of worship where religious activities of the local people are centered. These houses of worship are generally also made a tourist destination in the area. Aceh for instance has declared the Baiturrahman Great Mosque —an old mosque that had sturdily withstood the 2004 tsunami—a tourist destination in the province, which is also called the Verandah of Mecca. Jakarta has the Istiqlal Mosque and the Cathedral Church where visitors can admire the beauty of the architecture of the two houses of worship, which were built in proximity to each other. However, these houses of worship are located in the center of the city, for easy public access. Besakih Temple, on the other hand, is far from crowd centers, despite its function in hosting various Hindu rituals.
BESAKIH BALI'S MOTHER TEMPLE #BaliGoLiveCulture #BaliGoLiveDestination #BaliGoLiveAdventure
Located in Besakih village, in Karangasem’s East of Bali, the Besakih Temple is known as the “mother temple of Bali.” Moreover, the temple is also considered to be one of the holiest and largest temple.
It sits 1,000 meters high on southwestern slopes of Mount Agung. The mountain of Agung is the largest in Bali and it’s sacred to the Balinese.
Built before the 1000AD, the Besakih got its name from the Dragon deity “Naga Besukian,” which was believed to inhabit the mount Agung.
In 1963 eruption of Mount Agung, the lava flow passed the temple and this was seen as a miracle, believed to be a signal from the gods.
The Besakih temple comprise of many different small temples or “pura” as they call it in Bali, but there are three main temples that are dedicated to the Hindu Trinity—Shiva (the destroyer), Brahma (the creator), and Vishnu (the preserver).
To every Balinese, visiting the temple is a special pilgrimage. The Besakih is also the only temple in Bali which is open to every devotee from any caste groups. This is because of the belief that the Besakih temple is the center of all ceremonies activities.
The location is around 2 hours away from Sanur, and we recommend to visit the temple early in the morning and the evening when the crowds are not as busy. Please note that for those women who are on their periods are forbidden to enter any temples in Bali due religious and holy purposes.
Put Besakih temple as one of your itinerary when visiting Bali! There are many temples in Bali, and the “mother temple” is worth a visit!

Known as Bali's 'Mother Temple', for more than 1,000 years, has sat 1,000m up on Mount Agung’s southwestern slopes in the eastern part of Bali.
This complex of Hindu temples is the largest, holiest and most important on the island and miraculously survived the catastrophic volcanic eruption of 1963.
Surrounded by breathtaking scenery, Besakih Temple is nestled amid sweeping rice paddies, mountains, hills and streams.
The high set location of Mount Agung gives the temple complex a mystical quality and for the local Balinese, visiting this temple sanctuary is a truly special pilgrimage.
A huge staircase leads you up the sacred mountain to many different temples that represent all different types, functions and status.
Today, it serves as a popular destination for visitors to Bali and as a place of prayer for local Hindu people.
Travelers can wander the stepped terraces and brick gateways of the 23 ancient temples that make up the complex and sit on several parallel ridges, some 3,280 feet (1,000 meters) up the side of this active volcano.
The temples dedicated to the three main gods of Hinduism, Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma are surrounded by smaller structures housing temples to lesser gods or shrines to various Balinese castes.

Asal Mula Pura Besakih Karangasem Bali/The Origins of Bali Besakih Temple
Asal Mula Pura Besakih Karangasem Bali

MY TRIP MY LOVE
Siaga Gunung Para Dewa.
Saya temui Pandita Mpu Purohita.
Akhirnya saya meminta izin agar Pandita Mpu Purohita bersedia saya wawancara. Ia pun bersedia.
