KOTA KINABALU - Borneo, Sabah, Malaysia
Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton, is the capital of the state of Sabah, Malaysia. It is also the capital of the West Coast Division of Sabah. The city is located on the northwest coast of Borneo facing the South China Sea. Kota Kinabalu is named after Mount Kinabalu, which is situated about 50 kilometres east-northeast of the city. Kinabalu is derived from the name Aki Nabalu meaning the revered place of the dead. Aki means ancestors or grandfather, and Nabalu is a name for the mountain in the Dusun language.
Kota Kinabalu has a population of 452,058 according to the 2010 census; when the adjacent Penampang and Putatan districts are included, the metro area has a combined population of 628,725.

Kundasang & Mount Kinabalu Day Trip - Sabah, Borneo
We set off early from Kota Kinabalu to our first stop - a beautiful viewpoint of Mount Kinabalu (we will be back to hike this beast next year).
We also visited Desa cow farm, which produces the majority of dairy products for Sabah (including icecream, which unfortunately we were unable to try due to the MASSIVE queue).
Our tour also included a visit to Kota Kinabalu's mystical botanical garden, with a last minute stop at a restaurant that served smoked wild boar (sinalau bakas). Highly recommended!

Finally Borneo! From KL to KK. Kota Kinabalu, Sabah | Travel Malaysia
In KK könnte man tolle Insel Hopping Touren unternehmen.

Kota Kinabalu is FANTASTIC! Sabah, Malaysia (WeWillNomad)
Although KK was supposed to be just our port of entry to Borneo (before we moved on to the north), we returned a few weeks later to spend some time exploring. We agreed that it's a highly under-rated Malaysian city in itself and its a place that we would gladly stay for much longer! The locals lovingly call their city “Api Api” whereas for the rest of the world it is known as Kota Kinabalu. That said, on the surface, KK is far from a pretty town. However, it doesn’t take more than a tiny scratch to find its charms and as Kota Kinabalu is the gateway for most travellers’ Malaysian Borneo adventures, the warmth and friendliness of its laid back citizens will instil the feeling that you are already well in the heart of Borneo.

We came to Borneo to eat and made a Street Food Adventure tour video just for you. I (Trevor James, The Food Ranger) and Ting Ting as well as Chuchu, travel to the deep back streets of Kuching, in Borneo Malaysia, filming and tasting the top street foods to try in Kuching!
Some people say that Kuching is like the Penang of Borneo. With Penang being the food capital of Peninsular Malaysia, they say that Kuching is the food capital of Borneo Malaysia. There is a huge Chinese influence in Kuching and you can see lots of Chinese street food on the streets but in Malaysian style. Hawker centers are everywhere. It truly is a magical food city. There is a ton of unique cuisine to try!
Whether eating street food in Penang, Kuala Lumpur Street food, or here in Kuching having Kuching street food, it's all good and varies in flavor but you MUST come to try the street food in all of these locations! In Peninsular Malaysia, you can find Chinese street food, Indian street food, and Malay street food all over the place. Here, in Kuching, it's more Chinese street food and Iban, Bidayuh, and Malay street food. All of these come together to make Malaysian street food some of the best in the world!
We are bringing you for a huge Malaysian street food tour as well as a full-on street food ADVENTURE into Kuching's liveliest street food markets, street food alleyways, and deep food streets.
On our trip to Borneo, we found and ate a ton of cheap (NOT EXPENSIVE) and delicious street food. We couldn't stop eating all the street food that we found. This is one place in Asia you have to visit to eat the street food!
Asian street food is without a doubt some of the BEST street food in the world, and since we live in China, eating Chinese street food all the time, it's very easy and fun for us to travel overland or fly to Southeast Asia (places like Vietnam, Thailand, or Vietnam) to try the best street food when we like.
We shot this street food tour for you, eating a ton of tasty Malaysian street foods. Here are the addresses for the street foods, for your next visit to Kuching, Borneo, Malaysia:
-Hawker Center Sarawak Laksa (BEST broth in the world?)
Chong Choon Cafe 泉春茶室
275, Jalan Chan Chin Ann, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia

Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state in the northern part of the island of Borneo. Often referred to as KK, it’s a coastal city partly surrounded by rainforest. It's known for its bustling markets, modern boardwalk, beaches and waterfront Kota Kinabalu City Mosque. It is also a gateway to Kinabalu National Park, the home of 4,095m-high Mount Kinabalu.Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park, made up of 5 major islands off the coast, is home to beaches, coral reefs, tropical jungle and waterfront houses built on stilts. Near the airport, Tanjung Aru is a beach area with dramatic sunsets, plus dining and nightlife. Sabah Museum displays headhunter artifacts and hosts an ethnobotanical garden and a zoo. Visitors can follow boardwalks through protected mangrove forest and bird habitat at Kota Kinabalu Wetland Centre or observe orangutans at Lok Kawi Wildlife Park, which is about 20km south of the city.
