Ridge State Trout Hatchery - Berkeley Springs, West Virginia- by Dan Gritsko
One of my favorite places to visit when traveling through Berkeley Springs West Virginia, is make a stop at the Ridge State Fish Hatchery. You can see trout of various sizes including: fingerlings, larger ones, those about a foot long, and breeder trout pictured here. These two ladies love fishing, and it was great to take a walk around the pools on a pretty day. Come have a look when you are in the area, camping at Cacapon State Park, or just want to enjoy this cool place.
I've been a big fan of trout growing up with my Dad and Grandfather who were both trout fisherman. Dad taught me how to trout fish in and around Buffalo, New York. My Grandfather, known as 'Granddaddy' - took me as a youngster in the streams around Bedford, PA. Although I'm often too busy to do it, one of my favorite things to do is to trout fish.

How Dollar Stores Really Make Their Money
Every year, dollar stores see higher and higher earnings, but how can a store that seems like it's giving things away turn itself into a multi-billion-dollar enterprise? The answer is simple: that dollar isn't always the great deal it appears to be. Here are their secrets.
Whether times are good or bad, you can still count on people to flock to dollar stores because they have the one thing everyone loves: convenience. Sales for Dollar General are always on the upswing, with the chain seeing an increase of 3.7 percent between 2017 and 2018, regardless of the state of the economy. Take it from Dollar General CEO Todd Vasos, who had this to say about their regular customers:
We have seen no sign of trade out or trade up from our core customers. Even in a good economy, [they are] still looking for value and convenience.
So, basically, no matter how much money people have, they still want something that bigger grocery stores can't give them. Dollar stores are not just convenient because their items are cheaper, but also because there seems to be one on every corner — and that makes them perfect for a quick fill-in trip between your weekly grocery runs. These stores are also typically smaller than the ones in a big chain like Walmart, which means that you can usually get in and out with your emergency bag of dog food, a handful of snacks, or supplies for your kid's art project in just a couple of minutes. The fact that most people are on to this, means dollar stores are always making money — even if customers buy just a few things.

Maine Waterfall Road Trip Adventure: 2-Days, 17 Waterfalls
In early May I headed off for a 2-day waterfall adventure to explore 17 of Maine's waterfalls during the spring melt. It was still early in the season, so I was only able to access 16 of these incredible waterfalls. Waterfalls I visited include Snow Falls, Kezar Falls, Frenchmen's Hole, Step Falls, Screw Auger Falls, Mother Walker Falls, Moose Cave, The Cataracts, Ellis Falls, Coos Canyon, Smalls Falls, Phillips Falls, Mosher Hill Falls, Poplar Stream Falls, North Anson Gorge Falls, and Houston Brook Falls.
I published a 186-page, full-color interactive guide that details precise GPS locations of parking areas you can tap on to get instant Google driving directions from your location, tons of photos showing parking areas, trailheads, trail conditions, and the falls, extra exclusive video content of each waterfall, and full descriptions of what to expect and hazards.
The guide is available for instant download after purchase, check it out here:
Illustrating Thoreau's Maine Woods: A Photographer's Journey
Scot Miller discusses his seven-year project photographing northern Maine for his new book, The Maine Woods: A Photographic Journey Through an American Wilderness, which combines contemporary imagery with text from Henry David Thoreau’s classic essay collection, The Maine Woods (first published 150 years ago). He will also screen The Unexpected Journey, a short documentary about the making of the book.
Both Thoreau and Miller's journeys took place alongside the people and traditions of the Penobscot tribe, past and present. Special guest James Eric Francis, Sr., Director of Cultural and Historic Preservation for the Penobscot Nation, opens the evening with a presentation entitled, A Sense of Place: Henry David Thoreau's Wabanaki Perspective.

Episode 1: Get Lost in Woodstock
Woodstock, Vermont is one of the quaintest, most picturesque towns in the world---and disclaimer: it is also my hometown. But trust me, this Rockefeller town has a walking village filled with boutique shops, a center town green, an iconic covered bridge, and nearby working farm-Billings Farm--all of which looks charming in the green summers or snowy winters. The Woodstock Inn & Resort is the backbone of the time, and has been popular with locals & tourists for years.
