SCUBA Diving With Dancing/Romancing Squid In Bonaire
I love squid. I love the way they swim. I love the way they change colors and I love the way they watch you. I'd been staying and diving in Bonaire with the Harbor Village Hotel and their in-house dive operation Great Adventures. It was my 3rd time with them and they are awesome.
I'd been asking if they could take me to a site with squid so I could get some close-ups. And, on our 3rd dive day, I ran right into more than a dozen Squid.
And best of all, I captured 2 in what I think was a romantic engagement. It was an exciting 30 minutes and I moved in and out of the Squid as I watched and videoed them and they watched me. Bonaire is an awesome island. It's right off of Venezuela, but it's Dutch and the hotel is great and the restaurants are terrific too. But best of all, it's just about the best shore diving in the world. And I dove right in front of the hotel every morning and went out on the afternoon 10 minute boat ride every afternoon. I even had some great night dives. But best of all, was this Dancing Squid dive.

Beyond that it is all sand again. In the shallow part you can see a mixture of hard and soft coral, with many Smooth Trunkfish and Razorfish. Moving to the drop-off you can encounter Midnight Parrotfish, Bigeye Scads, Blade coral, Azure Vase sponges, giant anemones and colorful Star Corals. In the north outskirt of the bay you can find the healthiest and most beautiful field of Boulder Star corals. In the southern side of the bay at a depth of 6m/20ft is an impressive field of Staghorn corals

Diving Bonaire - Netherlands Antilles
Bonaire has a land area of 288 km² (111 sq. miles), while Klein Bonaire is a further 6 km² (2.3 sq. miles). Bonaire's Afdeling Bevolking (census) office reported that the population was 14,006 inhabitants as of December, 2006,[17] which gives Bonaire island proper a population density of 49 inhabitants per km².
Bonaire lies outside the hurricane belt, and is served by Flamingo International Airport.
The island is ringed by a coral reef which is easily accessible from the shore along the Western and Southern sides. Furthermore, the entire coastline of the island has been declared a marine sanctuary, preserving local fish life.
The coral reef around uninhabited Klein Bonaire is particularly well preserved, and it draws divers, snorkelers, and boaters.
Bonaire also has several coral reefs where seahorses can be found.
Bonaire is also famed for its flamingo populations and its donkey sanctuary. Flamingos are drawn to the brackish water, which harbours the shrimp they feed on. Starting in the 16th century, the Dutch raised sheep, goats, pigs, horses and donkeys on Bonaire, and the descendants of the goats and donkeys roam the island today, with a small population of pigs roaming as well.
Washington Slagbaai National Park, located at the north side of the island, is an ecological preserve. The highest point of Bonaire, the mountainous Brandaris, 787 feet (240 m) high, located within this preserve, has a complete view of the island.
Elsewhere, environmental issues are a cause for concern, particularly with unregulated and illegal dumping of raw sewage and chemical pollutants which leach through the permeable limestone of the island and threaten the quality of groundwater. This is particularly of concern at the landfill site, which environmentalists state has no impermeable membrane present to prevent possible groundwater contamination by toxic waste. Destruction of wildlife habitat for commercial development thus threatening endangered species is also highlighted as a problem.
Lac Bay, (also known as Lac Cai or Lac Cay) on the eastern side of the island, is a windsurfer's paradise. Locals Taty and Tonky Frans in 2004 were ranked in the top five of the world's freestyle windsurfing professionals.
Atlantis Beach, on the western part of the island, is the local kitesurfing spot.
Aside from the tourist sites, Bonaire has become home to Saint James School of Medicine, which was founded by Physicians practicing and teaching basic/clinical medicine in the United States. Their goals encompass motivating students in the art of medicine utilizing a curriculum which parallels that of any U.S. based medical school.

Pink Beach/ Hilma Hooker
Bonaire Wreck dive
Bonaire Wreck diving the Hilma hooker
In the summer of 1984, the Hilma Hooker had engine problems at sea and was towed to the port of Kralendijk, Bonaire. It was already under surveillance by drug enforcement agencies. Docked at the Town Pier, local authorities boarded the ship for an inspection when her Captain was unable to produce any of the ships requisite registration papers. A false bulkhead was discovered, and held within was 25,000 lb (11,000 kg) of marijuana. The Hilma Hooker and her crew were subsequently detained while the local authorities on Bonaire searched for the vessel's owners, who were never found.
The ship languished under detention as evidence for many months and through general neglect of her hull she began to take on considerable amounts of water. It was feared that she would sink at the main dock on the island and disrupt maritime traffic. After many months of being tied to the pier and pumped of water, on September 7, 1984 the Hooker was towed to an anchorage. As the days passed, a slight list became noticeable. The list was even more obvious one morning. The owner was still not coming forward to claim the ship and maintain it so the many leaks added up until on the morning of September 12, 1984 the Hilma Hooker began taking in water through her lower portholes. At 9:08 am she rolled over on her starboard side and, in the next two minutes, disappeared.
She came to rest on a sand flat between two coral reef systems in an area known to divers as Angel City. Her wreck has subsequently became a prime attraction for scuba divers visiting Bonaire. She lies in approximately 100 feet (30 m) of water, and at 240 feet in length provides ample scope for exploration. However, relatively little of the wreck involves penetration diving.
She is regarded as one of the leading wreck diving sites in the Caribbean

So here we are: One week shorediving at Bonaire´s westcoast.
You need a pickup, tanks, weights, stable rock boots and someone in your team who is able to read the scuba travel guide.
Then you are ready to meet Bonaire´s famous underwater world. Like at this northern divesite called 1000 steps.
Bonaire is a marine park since decades. Which made this island become a famous dive destination, showing healthy coral growth at almost every dive site.
Diving Bonaire´s west coast means that you are always diving at the same shore reef.
But here in the south the drop off is more away from shore compared to northern and central places.
This is the Hilma Hooker. Once a drug trafficing boat, it had been confiscated by local authorities and then sunk on purpose for becoming a diver´s pleasure.
Even during high season, you and your buddies may be lucky enough to visit this wreck completely alone.
And now honeys, let´s take a walk on the wild side.
Bonaire´s east coast. You better don´t dive here without any local experts who exactly know when to dive and where to enter and exit the water.
This is: Cliff. One of Bonaire´s central dive sites, which can be found in or right outside the main town of Kralendijk.
Most of these places are located in touristic resorts or at public beaches. So very often there is also an easy entrance for divers.
Yes, Bonaire is a windy, windy place. Which makes silence in the silent world even more silent.
Well, something negative has to be pointed out. If you have already seen some other reefs on the planet you may find that Bonaire´s sites are not really filled up with fish life.
But okay, with a bit of luck and some local research, you be happy to discover these guys.
We found this bait ball at Pink Beach. But it has already been seen a couple of times before at other southern sites. So just look out for dark, slowly moving spots in the lagoon`s water before you start your dive.
Just the best for the rest. Bonaire´s Salt Pier deserves its well-known reputation.
It´s not just a very unique place for diving, it´s a biosphere for its own. Where prey meets predators - and divers meet both of them.

Waterlands Village Bonaire
Several units for sale in Waterlands Village Bonaire at Keys Real Estate Bonaire:
Waterlands Village Bonaire is a private secured community situated on one of Bonaire's peninsulas, with an open channel connecting directly to the Caribbean Sea. Waterlands Bonaire is only minutes away from the centre of Kralendijk, the ocean front, dive sites, restaurants and the airport.
The community counts 24 beautifully designed and completely furnished Indonesian-style cottages, surrounded by perfectly maintained tropical gardens. The 1-, 2- en 3- bedroom houses are built around a fantastic pool- and barbeque area with kidney shaped pool, gazebo, waterfall and wet bar, and all have access to the community waterfront where fine coral sand and king size beach-beds offer the opportunity to relax and enjoy the sunshine on a Caribbean beach, only steps away from home. Seven community docks offer the possibility to moor boats.
All cottages are connected to electricity, water, cable television and WIFI internet, have air conditioning, safe, security system, flat screen television, DVD, stereo, in-home theatre, grill, refrigerator, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, oven, toaster, all pots, pans, plates, cups, beds, tables, chairs, private porch, outside shower area and much more.
Waterlands main and only entrance is an automatic wrought iron gate, which after intercom permission, opens up to the reception building, parking lots, maintenance and laundry facilities and one-way loop road. Cars are permitted, but Waterlands is primarily a pedestrian precinct, barefooted or not.
The only property line connecting to landside consists of a wall, thus generating absolute privacy. The inside of this wall is colored and features small niches and indirect lighting. The outside of the wall has been painted with art by artists from various ages.
The lush tropical garden is another of Waterlands many features. Water is a precious commodity in our arid climate. Waterlands gardens are watered with re-used waste water via an automatic irrigation system.
Garden, walkways and loop road are lit at night with low-height indirect lights.
Due to the perfect location and the fact that not a single detail has been left out, Waterfront Village Bonaire offers a fantastic income opportunity when owners are not using the home themselves and decide to rent it out for either short- or longer terms. The manager and personal on site take care of all the work and will make sure that you or your guests will have the most comfortable stay possible. Waterlands is already very well known for holiday rentals. Overnight prices start at 180 USD per cottage. Longer term rentals are calculated around 2000 USD per month.
