This temple is believed to be constructed by the King Pulakesi 2 of Chalakya dynasty around 625 AD. This was an abandoned ancient temple surrounded by hills and trees until 1950s. Sri Ganapathi Sasthri, a brahmin from Karnataka who migrated to Warangal has taken interest in renovating the temple and started living in this isolated place in a small house next to the temple.

Bhadrakali Temple at Hanamkonda is significant Devi temple located on the hilltop between the twin cities of Hanamkonda and Warangal in Andhra Pradesh. The temple is held in high esteem by devotees of the of Goddess Bhadrakali popularly called the ‘Grant Mother Goddess’. Bhadrakali Temple is one of the oldest temples for Goddess Bhadrakali, situated on a hilltop between the two cities of Hanamkonda and Warangal. Based on the inscripitions on the temple, the temple is believed to be constructed by the king Pulakesi II of Chalukya dynasty around 625 A.D., to celebrate his victory over Vengi region of the Andhra Desham. The temple structure has a square temple, which is different from the cirucular pillar, which is commonly used in the temples constructed by the Kakatiyas. The Kakatiya kings of the Orugallu empire have adopted Goddess Bhadrakali as their family deity

Bhadrakali Temple is one of the oldest temples for Goddess Bhadrakali, situated on a hilltop between the two cities of Hanamkonda and Warangal.The temple is believed to be built in 625 A.D by the King Pulakeshin II of Chalukya dynasty to commemorate his victory over Vengi region of Andhra Desham, as per the writings on the temple wall.
Kakatiya kings later have adopted the temple and considered Goddess Bhadrakali as their Kula Devatha. A lake was also built by Ganapatideva adjacent to the temple. Due to the fall of Kakatiya dynasty to the muslim rulers of Delhi, the temple lost its prominence. In 1950, the temple was renovated by Sri Ganapathi Sastri and Devi Upasaka along with the help of a local merchant and other affluent locals.

Bhadrakali Temple in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh is known to be one of the oldest temples for Goddess Bhadrakali in India. This temple is located on the banks of the Bhadrakali lake, a picturesque location between Hanamkonda and Warangal.The temple's main deity Goddess Bhadrakali's image is made in a 2.7x2.7 meters square stone facing west with pleasant looking eyes holding weapons in her eight hands with Shiva under her feet. Major Attractions of Bhadrakali Temple High point of Bhadrakali Temple is an artificial lake of 2 ½ kms radius in the vicinity of the temple. Number of natural rock formations in the surroundings add to the spiritual charm of the temple and are the most dominant feature of the temple. Some of the unique shaped rocks are said to carry immense spiritual powers. The structure of the temple is said to be 250 years old. Though the image of the deity is called the Bhadrakali, the goddess is said to have been transformed by the mantras into a very rare form called the Tripura Sundari, which includes the Kali form. Tripura Sundari is regarded as the supreme manifestation of Prakriti - the feminine power which is the vital energy of the universe. Literal meaning of Tripura Sundari is 'The Beauty of the Three Worlds' or more precisely the three Cites or 'Pura'.

In 1950, the temple was renovated by Sri Ganapathi Sastri a Devi upasaka along with the help of a local merchant and other affluent locals...Apara Ekadashi is observed as Goddess Bhadrakali Ekadashi.The history of the Koh-i-Noor diamond; part of British Crown Jewels, is closely associated with this temple as it was installed, as the left eye of Goddess Bhadrakali by the Kakatiya dynasty.
