The Bhimgarh Fort Reasi.
Bhimgarh Fort, generally known as the Reasi Fort, is near Reasi, a town approximately 64 km northwest of Jammu.
The fort is on a hillock approximately 150 metres high. Initially it was constructed of clay. Later on, one of the heirs of Maharaj Rishipal Rana, the founder of Reasi, reconstructed it using stone. It was used by the royal family members for shelter during emergencies.
The renovation of the fort was started by Gulab Singh of Jammu and Kashmir in 1817 and continued till 1841. A new entry gate and a stone wall one m wide and 50 m long was built all around, thereby making it less vulnerable to attacks.
The main entry gate is made of Baluka stones with Rajasthani carving. The front wall has loopholes. This has a statue of the Goddess Mahakali and of God Hanuman.
The fort has a temple, a pond, rooms of different sizes, armoury and treasury. After the death of Maharaja Gulab Singh, his heir Maharaja Ranbir Singh and Maharaja Pratap Singh used Bhimgarh Fort as a treasury and armoury. During Maharaja Hari Singh's rule an English minister ordered that the armoury be destroyed and shifted the treasury to Jammu.
Bhimgar Fort was handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir State Archaeology Department in 1989 on the orders of the state government. In 1990, the fort was renovated by the Vaishno Devi Sthapna Board. The surrounding areas were given a facelift with the construction of gardens and pathways. The fort was then opened to the public. Though, the fort is devastated by the earthquakes and lack of maintenance, it stands out as an important landmark in the town.

Reasi Fort was first renovated by Maharaja Gulab Singh of Dogra Dynasty in 1817 and was completed in 1841. An entry gate and a stone wall was the new addition to the fort by King Gulab Singh.
The Name of Reasi is derived from the first Raja Raspal of this area, who had shifted from Bajalta to this place. At that time this place was a cluster of some houses. Raja Raspal converted it into a township and named it as Rasyalsi after his name. With the passage of time this named changed from Rasyalsi to Reasi.
Later on the name of this town was extended to the whole principality. Earlier this area was known as Bhimgarh principality which was established by Raja Bhim Dev in 8th century AD.
Reasi got the status of District in 1904. However, in 1950 the status of Reasi was reduced to tehsil and the area was merged with district Udhampur. Reasi again became the district in 2007 which was carved out from district Udhampur. Reasi is 72 Km from Jammu city located on the northern side. It is predominantly a hilly district surrounded in the east by district Udhampur west by Rajouri in the southern side by Jammu and in the north by Ramban while a part of Reasi is touching the boundaries of district Shopian on the northern fringes. Chaneb is the major river flowing through the district while there are number of streams like Ans, Plassu, Ban Ganga etc.
The Reasi district is known for Shri Mata Vashino Devi University located at Kakrial (Panthal). A cancer hospital unique of its nature in the state is coming up in this university. Katra is an important town and center of religious tourism because the famous Mata Vashino Devi shrine is 13 km from this town located in Trikuta hills. Katra is linked with railway line. This railway track will be extended

JASROTA FORT - Royal in Ruins
Jasrota, once the capital city of the Jasrotia rajputs, was founded by Raja Jasdev, a descendant of the The Royal House of Jammu and Kashmir. The Fort is located on the bank of river Ujh on a hillock near Rajbagh in Kathua District of J&K State.
Like majority of the forts, #JasrotaFort is again a royal in ruins, crying for maintenance and crumbling for attention by the concerend authorities. It can be maintained on the lines of Ramnagar Fort, Reasi Fort & Hiranagar Fort.
We have explored the fort area till the end and I have not seen such a huge fort in terms of area in Jammu region as of now. We witnessed various palatial structures assuming them as darbar hall, biradari hall, ponds, rain harvest tanks, watch towers, entrance gates and the list goes on.
Govt. has just focused till the Temple but negligence towards the fort is clearly noticed. I couldn't understand the reason behind the neglect for such a royal fort despite its magnificence. It is important to pay timely attention before it will vanish forever.
Forts are our tangible heritage. Its Now or never situation for Jasrota Fort. Hope by medium of this video, it may awake the conscious of the concerned.
