.
With everything sorted we started hiking up and witnessed small snow patches in the jungle at an altitude of 7500 feet. We moved swiftly through them and took our first break just before the snowfield. As we were hiking up we came across patches of dry grass, small waterfalls, footprints of bear and thus we started whistling every 10 mins so as to maintain a healthy distance from the wildlife.
The weather was very clear and the sun was not very harsh. Soon we wore the gaiters and starting walking in the humongous meadows of the trail (which were covered by a thick blanket of snow). After walking till 12:30 pm we finally reached Panduropa (a big plateau which acts as the first campsite for the Bhrigu lake trek from Vashisht side). We saw a huge ridge in front of us and we hiked for another hour and decided to camp on top of the ridge.
Since we had enough time with us we even slept on the exposed rocks for sometime.
As the sun set we had our dinner and feel asleep camping at 3550 meters watching the whole of Kullu district. The temperatures inside the tent were really high and we had a sound sleep.
Day 02 - 12th April
After having a heavy breakfast (oats, jaggery and dry fruits) we packed our tent and started hiking at 08:00 am. We left the rucksack (60L) at one point in the trail as there was no one except the two of us in the whole region. We kept peanuts, dry fruits, jaggery, water bottle, gloves and power bricks in the small backpack and started running towards Bhrigu lake with trek poles and Ice axes in hand.
After crossing vast landscapes of snow and two short breaks we reached the long awaited lake at 12 noon. To our utter surprise there was nothing. Since the region received huge amount of snowfall this year, the lake was completely covered with snow and one can barely see the boundary of the lake. We took the help of Maps.ME to confirm that we are at the right coordinates. After sitting there for 10 minutes we turned back and reached near our rucksack in 2 hours.
We quickly picked the rucksack and then after a series of Glissade touched down the forest section by 02:40 pm.
After that it was a joyride remembering the experience we had and we reached Vashisht temple at 05:00 pm thus marking the end of another beautiful trek.

BHRIGU LAKE TREK | MANALI | June 2018
Bhrigu Lake Trek
Elevation: 4300m (surface elevation)
Region: Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, India.
Duration: 4 Days
Difficulty: Moderate
Highest Altitude: 4269m
Minimum Age: 8 years
Minimum Group Size:
So what’s so special about the Bhrigu Lake trek?
The lake, for one, but apart from the lake, on the way to the lake, there’s a lot that you are going to see that’s going to leave you spellbound.
The Bhrigu Lake trek is one of the only treks in India in which you will come across high altitude meadows. It’s not that India is devoid of such high-altitude meadows, it’s just that generally, in order to reach such meadows one needs to trek for a good number of days. On this trek, however, that’s not the case. Within two-three days of the onset of the trek, you will come across such vast-undefiled, green meadows, surrounded by goliath snow peaks all around. Trust us, once you see and feel these meadows for yourselves, you will just want to lie down and cloud-gaze. And, why not, right?
As with all Himalayan treks, expect to be treated to a celestial display every night. Oh and guess what? Today, the Bhrigu Lake can be blue in colour while tomorrow, if you go to see the same lake it could have a greenish tinge to it. As a glacial lake, its colour and shape undergoes constant change.
Trek Itinerary:
Day 1- Base Camp: Reach the Manali Base Camp. Get acclimatized. We take all the group members along for a brief tour around Manali. If you want, you can go around and explore on your own too. In the evening, we will have an orientation session in which we will give you a brief overview on the trek along with some some trekking tips that will help you for the next week or so.
Day 2- Manali to Gulaba Trek to Rohlikohli Campsite: From Manali, you will be driving down to the start of the ‘Gulaba Trek’. From then on, it’s a 3-4 hour ascend to the Rohlikohli Campsite. You will be passing two beautiful, scenic streams; Chor Nallah and Kohli Nallah on the way up to the campsite. From the campsite, you will be blessed with a scenic view over the Solan Valley.
Day 3- Trek to Bhrigu Lake: From our Rohlikohli Campsite, the trek to Bhrigu Lake is a 3 hour ascend. Once we reach the lake, we will relax there for a while. Our trek guides will stir your imagination with some ‘pahadi legends’. In the afternoon, you will descend and head back to the Rohlikohli campsite.
Day 4- Trek back to Gulaba and head for Manali: Again, from Rohlikohli to Gulaba is a 3-4 hour descend. The trek is simple and quite relaxing, letting you take in the scenic views and the fresh-clean air for one last time. Once you reach Gulaba, you will be taking a bus back to Manali.

Pandu Ropa / Bhrigu Lake - A Manali timelapse
The meadows of Pandu Ropa are located high above the Vashist village near Manali.
Pandu Ropa in the local language means 'Rice fields of the Pandavas'. Although at over 3500m, I doubt if any rice would grow at this altitude. But if we consider that the Pandavas were nomadic tribesmen then it is quite possible that this is where they brought their sheep to graze.
The meadows are located on the trail to the holy Bhrigu lake. Most people use the meadows as a stop over point to reach the lake, but the meadows are a destination in themselves as you can see in the video.

Bhrigu Lake Trek, Manali, India
Bhrigu Lake is situated at an altitude of around 14,000 ft in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, India. Lying in the Indian Himalayas, it is basically having its presence in Pir Panjal range. I feel immense happiness when I visit these high and far flung areas in Himalayan mountain ranges, which I had only seen in the maps in my school days. Today I am myself exploring these places, these mountains after mountains.

Bhrigu Lake Trek | Epic Himalaya Grassland Trek | Weekend Trip near Delhi | Manali Travel Vlog
Hi guys!
Hope you enjoyed watching this video. As promised, here is your quick guide to Bhrigu Lake Trek from Manali -
This is a perfect trekking option for a weekend gateway. Please keep in mind that you would need 3 days to completely this trek. Even though it is moderate level trek, its decent is quite steep which could be a bit taxing on your feet, so make sure you carry a good pair of trekking boots with toe-guards and trekking poles.
This is one of India’s best grassland treks and I would suggest you to go right after monsoons when the weather is clear and you can easily spot the mountains of Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar dominating the skyline.
Your trek will start your trek from Vashisht or Gulaba near Manali.
Once you start trekking, it will take you 4-6 hours (depending on your speed) to reach Rola Kholi or Theli. It will be your campsite for the night.
The next day, you can start for Bhrigu Lake right after breakfast and get there in 4-5 hours. The route to Bhrigu lake is pretty easy and scenic.
You will be at 4300 m when you reach the lake. If your body is not accustomed to higher altitude, I’d suggest you to drink plenty of water and take a diamox.
Hope this information helps. In case you have any more questions, please feel free to drop them in a comment below.

Bhrigu Lake Trek
Trek Date: March 24, 2018
With: KB & Abhinav
Guide: Ricky (Feel free to call him on 8894412884 for any queries related to treks in this area)
We were actually supposed to do the Beas Kund Trek, however it was not available and moreover too dangerous due to weather conditions at this time of the year. So we had to opt for Bhrigu Lake Trek. Although it was an unexpected trek for us, but what was waiting for us on our journey ahead, made it an unforgettable experience for us.

Best Time To Do The Bhrigu Lake Trek In Himachal
Bhrigu Lake is a trek in Himachal Pradesh close to Manali. It is a 4 day trek that climbs up to 14,000 ft. While most trekkers do this trek foe the lake, we believe it's the grasslands that are the biggest attraction. The Bhrigu Lake trek has few of the best grasslands of Himachal, stretching in all directions as far as the eyes can see! They come very close to the Bedni and Dayara Bugyals in Uttarakhand.
Having said that, to see the grasslands of Bhrigu Lake, you have to time your trek right. The best time to do the Bhrigu Lake trek to see the grasslands is in July, August, and September. This is when the monsoons bring the grasslands to life. You trek through lush forests and then enter grasslands, where you can walk barefoot and let the grass tickle your feet. This is also when wild flowers bloom all over the meadows. It does rain a bit, but it's worth it. Even the lake turns a forget-me-not blue and makes for a lovely sight.
However, there's another side to Bhrigu Lake, when it is covered in snow. To see snow at Bhrigu Lake, the best time to trek would be in June, when the winter snow has not yet melted. The grasslands are covered in snow and the lake is frozen.
So trek between June and the first week of October. Before and after that, the trek is too difficult to navigate because of high snow.
