VISIT BHUTAN - Thimphu | Episode 1 | The LAST SHANGRILA | Local Food & Places to Explore !
BHUTAN - The Land of the Thunder Dragon or also known to be the LAST SHANGRILA !
VISIT BHUTAN Series is dedicated to all my viewers across to explore this beautiful scenic country hidden in the Himalayas. The Most Clean and purest country I have ever seen. The country has ensured the tourist are limited and proper environmental control are kept in place to conserve its nature. And They have done it very well. Travelling to Bhutan is very easy as it has VISA on Arrival for Indians, you can refer this link for all the VISA related information about this country :
There are not many flights which are allowed to land in this hilly region because of its hilly area around so it need trained pilots and it has very limited flights flying Via Kolkata, Delhi, Bagdogra and few others from India. There are only two Airlines which are allowed Royal Bhutan Airlines and Druk Airways. You can avail the tickets from their respective websites. Train is also available from Kolkata via Siliguri, but it goes till Phuentsholing, its a border town in the souther tip of Bhutan and touches India. From here one need to hire a car and post checking & completing your VISA formalities you are good to enter the Paro, Bhutan. Advisable to stay over a night here, as this small town is also very beautiful.
Bhutan is an all season tourism place, but it tends to get warm during Summers around May-Aug. During Winters its the best place to be and trust me friends its damn cold here. In some parts it goes down to also -10 Degrees as well. Bhutan has evolved and developed over the years owned and accepted the work as it has changed. It still has a King !
Being close to India it shares it currency value as same as India. They do accept Indian Rupees everywhere very gracefully and the people can talk very well in English, Hindi and ofcourse their mother tongue Bhutanese. The typical dress they wear would definitely catch your eyes the moment you land in this country. National Dress of Bhutan. 'Gho' is the national dress for men in Bhutan. It is a long robe hoisted up until it is knee-length. The hoisted cloth is held in place with a woven cloth belt called 'Kera' wound tightly around the waist. The scenic beauty and heritage is immense in this part of the world.
Not to forget their Bhutanese Food ! Its typical with its Cheese and Thick milk Suja (Butter Tea). It do have an influence of Indian, Nepali & Chinese cuisine as they share the border but the true essence of Bhutanese Food is always available.
In this video we would explore such places where to visit and where to eat around, so next time you visit this place you can definitely consider my vlog !

Welcome to Mongar - Bhutan | Asia Senses Travel
Mongar marks the beginning of Eastern Bhutan. The second largest town in the sub-tropical east, Mongar like Trashigang further east, is situated on the side of a hill in the contrasts to other towns of Western Bhutan which was built on the valley floor.
Gushing waterfalls, steep cliffs with even steeper drops, blazing flowers and constantly changing vegetation combine to make this journey as varied as it is beautiful.
The landscape here is spectacular with stark cliffs and gorges and dense coniferous forests. The region is notably famed for its weavers and their special textiles generally considered to be the best in the country. The Kurtoe region of Lhuntse is also the ancestral home of royal dynasty.
The local people from Mongar and Trashigang gather at Drametse Lhakhang to witness the annual religious festival, celebrated every year on the 10th day of Bhutanese calendar and locally known as Kaggsol Chenmo, Trel Da Tshechu and Daw Drugpai Choep.

GoGo Bhutan: INTRO
INTRODUCTION of 6-days summer trip to western Bhutan covering Five districts: Paro, Thimphu, Punakha, Wangdue Phodrang and Haa.
Bhutan - Fortress of the Gods (archival docu)
Bhutanese people from different parts of country have gathered in Thimphu to celebrate and pay homage to 25 years of the coronation of the great fourth, Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck. People of Bhutan are celebrating their tribute to their king whose vision had in the past 25 given its people accomplishments of material prosperity within the tenets of its rich spiritual heritage. Thousands of people have gathered from all over the world including the international media to celebrate the 25th coronation of King Jigme Singye Wangchuk. Bhutan and Bhutanese people showcased its ample culture. Bhutanese people have celebrated the ceremony at Changlimithang, bhutanese students marched on national song. The agenda was also an address by fourth king of Bhutan and it was followed by the Chham (religious dance) then ceremony ended by “Tashi Laybey” ( a concluding song/dance) where Druk gyalpo Jigme Siongye Wangchuck joined his people in Tashi Laybey song. King Jigme Singye Wangchuck birth was prophesied by renowned Buddhist master Terton Drukdra Dorji in the 17th century on the 11th november 1955 this prophecy came true. The Wangchuck dynasty began with a coronation in 1907. King Jigme Singye Wangchuck was the only son of the five children born to the late Majesty King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck and Queen Kesang Choden. His offical coronation took place two year later in 1974.
'Bhutan - Fortress of the Gods' tells the story of modernisation of Bhutan under the leadership of King Jigme Singe Wangchuk. Credited with following a path of modernisation that balances local cultural needs with economic development the King coined the definer 'gross national happiness.' Bhutan is a unique example of a constitutional monarchy that harmoniously blends together its cultural heritage, spiritual moorings and practices, political ideology and its economic ambitions. The film visually evokes modern Bhutan, tucked away in the Himalayas and surrounded by huge nations like India and China, in all its various forms. The films also refers to its rich, cultural and religious history. Bhutan is a unique story, as the film demonstrates, of a nation building its own democracy in compliance with its particular character and history.

Bumthang dzong in Bhutan
Bumthang has an individuality that charms its visitors and separates it from other regions. Comprising of four smaller valleys namely Tang, Ura, Choekhor and Chumey, the deeply spiritual region of Bumthang is shrouded in religious legend. Bumthang is also the traditional home to the great Buddhist teacher Pema Linga to whose descendants the present dynasty traces its origin.
The Bumthang region is known as the spiritual heart of the kingdom, as it was here that Guru Rinpoche cured a local king of a spirit-induced ailment in the 8th century CE, an event that resulted in the the king, and finally the whole country, embracing Buddhism. The Buddhist saint Pema Ligpa was born in the region and many other famous Buddhist yogis lived and practiced here. Consequently, the area is a repository of sacred artifacts and monasteries.
The region is also known for its lush valleys and is a major producer of apples and apple juice. Previously, buckwheat was the most common grain grown in the valleys, but in recent years rice has successfully been introduced to the area and this has supplanted buckwheat as the main cash crop.
Bumthang is also famous for its brightly colored and distinctive woven woolen garments called yethra.
The winters in Bumthang are biting cold with a persistent strong wind and heavy snow falls. The summers, on the other hand, are warm and pleasant, and due to the high altitude, the region is spared from the worst of the torrential monsoon rains.

Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan
Bhutan is different - and progressive - politically as well: Its belief in Gross National Happiness, as opposed to Gross National Product, has become an envied global model. His Majesty the 4th King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, is a visionary leader who epitomizes the vibrancy, compassion and restraint that characterizes his people. In a particularly unusual move, His Majesty voluntarily turned over his power to His Majesty the 5th King, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk and initiated other significant changes in government to help Bhutanese face the 21st Century. It's also important to note that the country, which did not adopt television and the Internet until mid-1999, differs significantly from other parts of the Himalayas, many of which have embraced the worst of Western lifestyles. As always, Bhutan clearly does things its own way.
Druk Wangyel Festival : one of the best mid-winter Bhutanese experiences

Trongsa Dzong in Bhutan: birth place of the Kings
The Kings of Bhutan derive their power from the seat of the Penlop of Trongsa!
Penlop of Trongsa (Dzongkha: ཀྲོང་གསར་དཔོན་སློབ་; Wylie: Krong-gsar dpon-slob), also called Chhoetse Penlop (Dzongkha: ཆོས་རྩེ་དཔོན་སློབ་; Wylie: Chos-rtse dpon-slob; also spelled Chötse is a Dzongkha title meaning Governor of the Province of Trongsa (Chhoetse). It is generally given to the heir apparent of the Kingdom of Bhutan. The most recent holder of the title was King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, who was then a prince (Dzongkha: dasho, gyalsay). Although the current heir presumptive is Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, the title is reserved for the officially designated heir apparent, which is subject to change by the reigning king. Also, the reigning Druk Gyalpo may retain the office or award it to another person after coronation. The proper reference style is His Royal Highness Trongsa (Chhoetse) Penlop.
Trongsa Dzong is the largest dzong fortress in Bhutan, located in Trongsa (formerly Tongsa) in Trongsa district, in the centre of the country. Built on a spur overlooking the gorge of the Mangde River, a temple was first established at the location in 1543 by the Drukpa lama, Ngagi Wangchuk son of Ngawang Chhojey. In 1647, his great-grandson Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal (Shabdrung or Zhabdrung being his title), constructed the first dzong to replace it, called Chökhor Rabtentse Dzong with a shorter version of Choetse Dzong. It was enlarged several times during the 18th century; the Chenrezig Lhakang was built in 1715 and a whole complex, including the Maitreya (Jampa) temple, was added in 1771. The dzong has since been repaired on several occasions; it was damaged during the 1897 Assam earthquake and underwent extensive renovation in 1927 and 1999.
Trongsa Dzong, the largest dzong at a striking location, is an important administrative building, providing the headquarters of the government of Trongsa District. Trongsa provides a strategic central location to control Bhutan and for centuries it was the seat of the Wangchuck dynasty of penlops (governors) who effectively ruled over much of eastern and central Bhutan, and from 1907 have been Kings of Bhutan. It is also a major monastic complex, with around 200 monks. During the summer months, the monastic community often relocates to Kurje Monastery in the Bumthang Valley. It contains a notable printing house, responsible for the printing of many religious texts in Bhutan.)

Bhutan (/buːˈtɑːn/; འབྲུག་ཡུལ་ druk yul), officially the Kingdom of Bhutan (འབྲུག་རྒྱལ་ཁབ་ druk gyal khap), is a landlocked country in South Asia. Located in the Eastern Himalayas, it is bordered by China (in the north) and India (in the south). Bhutan lacks a border with nearby Nepal due to the Indian state of Sikkim and with Bangladesh due to the Indian states of West Bengal and Assam. Bhutan is geopolitically in South Asia and is the region's second least populous nation after the Maldives. Thimphu is its capital and largest city, while Phuntsholing is its financial center.
The independence of Bhutan has endured for centuries, and the territory was never colonized in its history. Situated on the ancient Silk Road between Tibet, the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, the Bhutanese state developed a distinct national identity based on Buddhism. Headed by a spiritual leader known as the Zhabdrung Rinpoche, the territory was composed of many fiefdoms and governed as a Buddhist theocracy. Following a civil war in the 19th century, the House of Wangchuck reunited the country and established relations with the British Empire. Bhutan fostered a strategic partnership with India during the rise of Chinese communism and has a disputed border with the People's Republic of China. In 2008, it transitioned from an absolute monarchy to a constitutional monarchy and held the first election to the National Assembly of Bhutan, that has a two party system characterizing Bhutanese democracy.
The King of Bhutan is known as the Dragon King. Bhutan is also notable for pioneering the concept of gross national happiness. The country's landscape ranges from lush subtropical plains in the south to the sub-alpine Himalayan mountains in the north, where there are peaks in excess of 7,000 metres (23,000 ft). The highest mountain in Bhutan is the Gangkhar Puensum, which is also a strong candidate for the highest unclimbed mountain in the world. There is also diverse wildlife in Bhutan.
In South Asia, Bhutan ranks first in economic freedom, ease of doing business, and peace; second in per capita income; and is the least corrupt country as of 2016. However, Bhutan continues to be a least developed country. Hydroelectricity accounts for the major share of its exports. The government is a parliamentary democracy. Bhutan maintains diplomatic relations with 52 countries and the European Union, but does not have formal ties with the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. It is a member of the United Nations, SAARC, BIMSTEC and the Non Aligned Movement. The Royal Bhutan Army maintains extensive military relations with the Indian Armed Forces.
The precise etymology of Bhutan is unknown, although it is likely to derive from the Tibetan endonym Bod used for Tibet. Traditionally, it is taken to be a transcription of the Sanskrit Bhoṭa-anta end of Tibet, a reference to Bhutan's position as the southern extremity of the Tibetan plateau and culture.
Since the 17th century the official name of Bhutan has been Druk yul (country of the Drukpa Lineage, the Dragon People, or the Land of the Thunder Dragon, a reference to the country's dominant Buddhist sect) and Bhutan only appears in English-language official correspondence.
Names similar to Bhutan — including Bohtan, Buhtan, Bottanthis, Bottan and Bottanter — began to appear in Europe around the 1580s. Jean-Baptiste Tavernier's 1676 Six Voyages is the first to record the name Boutan. However, in every case, these seem to have been describing not modern Bhutan but the Kingdom of Tibet.

Preface The history of Bhutan has commenced to gain tremendous attentions of her own native writers very recently. Until then, the foreign writers wrote much of Bhutan history. Numerous books, research articles and conference papers are already published in various aspects of Bhutan history. In addition, it should be understood pragmatically that there are yet many more to do in order to legitimate the history of Bhutan. So that, the history of Bhutan is well understood and logically reasoned. Foundations of Bhutan History: A Concise Guide is the outcome of an extensive review of literatures on the thematic content of class ten Bhutan history course textbook. Teaching Bhutan history to class ten students for the last seven years indeed is the basis of motivation of writing this book. The book is bifurcated into six chapters. The first chapter discusses on the role of Jigme Namgyal as a father of united Bhutan af¬ter Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. From chapter two until chapter five, the book annotates the dynamic reign of Wangchuck dynasty. The chapter six of the book is about the tangible cultures of Bhutan with special emphasis on arts and crafts. The chronicle of Bhutan history varies greatly in most of the books including those currently used as the curriculum course books by the Ministry of Education. These variations in the chronicle of Bhutan history have the possible risk of illogical interpretation of our history. For instance, the history course book of class ten (2011, p. 8) nar¬rates that Gongsa Jigme Namgyal personally challenged and killed a champion fighter named Migthol. However, other sources like The Emergence of Modern Bhutan: Jigme Namgyal’s Life and Career (Dorji, K.C., 1997, pp. 82-83) and The History of Bhutan (Phuntsho, K., 2014, p.420) state that the champion fighter Migthol was in fact, ambushed and killed by Jigme Namgyal and his two brothers. Therefore, Foundations of Bhutan History: A Concise Guide has thematically analyzed the chronicles of Bhutan history to bridge the chronicle differences, so that our history remains intact with valid and logical information. The book also creates an intellectual forum whereby, the readers and research enthusiasts are encouraged to carry out further in depth studies on the history of Bhutan.
North Korea's sacred Mount Paektu | Asia Senses Travel
One of the most stunning sights on the Korean Peninsula, Paekdusan (Mt Paekdu) straddles the Chinese - Korean border in the far northeastern tip of the DPRK. Apart from it being the highest mountain in the country at 2744m, and an amazing geological phenomenon (it’s an extinct volcano now containing a crater lake at its centre), it is also of huge mythical importance to the Korean people. Koreans consider Mount Paektu as the place of their ancestral origin and as a sacred mountain, one of the three spirited mountains (Jirisan, Hallasan and Paektusan); the one contained in the legendary foundation of Korea.
The huge crater lake called Chon (Lake of Heaven) lies at the summit, surrounded by bare rocky crags. It is the deepest crater lake in the world, and also one of the coldest. The Lake Chon is the source of the two longest Korean rivers - Amnok (803 km) and Tumen (521 km) which serve as Sino-Korean border almost over its entire length.
