New Zealand Bicycle Touring
New Zealand Bicycle Touring
As per my last rides, New Zealand Bike Tour The Great New Zealand Cycling Experience, and Cycle Tourism New Zealand, same shit, different day!
New Zealand Tourist Information will not warn you about New Zealand's dangerous attitude to cyclists. The Government will not ensure visitors know because they want the tourist Dollars more than they care about their wellbeing, NZ's fat children are allowed to ride bikes because their parents know the dangers, the poor daren't ride to work because it is too dangerous and they will not be compensated if they are knocked off and will only get 80% pay whilst off work. The best thing you can do to help the situation and avoid the risk is to boycott NZ until things improve hopefully a loss in Tourist Dollars will encourage change
This video was taken from one cycle ride on Sunday 13th February 2011; it included a fenced cycle path, rural and urban roads. Despite the quiet rural roads, and light urban traffic (and the poor roads making the cameras cut out) I have left a lot out, also note the wide angle lens (135 degrees) makes clearance look better than it is. On the road traffic was light due to the timing of the ride, if you are coming for a cycle tour you will not be able to choose to ride only on a Sunday.
You can expect this (and much more I didn't have time for) every time you ride a bike in New Zealand.
Hopefully the title will inform a poorly informed cycle tourist before booking a tour. If you have already booked, don't forget to bring a helmet, you can probably guess why wearing a helmet is compulsory in New Zealand :-(
