Biddeford Maine Parade, Early 1950s
Converted 16mm Historical Reel Footage of a downtown parade in Biddeford, Maine, estimated to be in the early to mid 1950s. While this video has some family significance, I thought I'd share this with the community since there's not much out there like this.
My grandfather, Paul Delorge Senior, was a police Captain in this parade. Further, my great grandfather Edward Delorge owned and operated the Sunbeam Bakery in town, run under the name Ed Delorge's Baking Co. One of his delivery trucks is near the end of the video.
Some landmarks that you can make out in the video: the former Central Theatre where the police station is now, Jacque's Market next to what is now Alex Pizza (even before the Maine Cleaners, which isn't there any more), and M.H. Fishman Co on Main Street.

Biddeford 31
Biddeford & Saco Railroad 31 was the first trolley to be saved by the country's oldest transit museum, The New England Electric Railway Historical Society (Seashore Trolley Museum). The car was built by Brill of Philadelphia in 1900. Known as a Breezer or Open Car it took passengers on a summer journey to Old Orchard Beach. The car was retired during the summer of 1939 and a group of college aged men bought the car and agreed to do choirs for the scrap dealer to bring the cost down to $150.00. The car arrived by what looks like a model A tow truck in one photo taken. Known as the Mother Car to many trolley museums for being the first car saved. In the late 1990's it was added to Maine's list of Save America's Treasures.

Top 5 Ghost Stories of Maine
From an axe wielding lighthouse keeper to a murdered mistress dancing on her lover’s grave, we’re looking at the ghost stories, legends, paranormal tales and haunted places of Maine, USA.
The White Lady of Brownville Road
Local legend tells of a newlywed couple who were driving along Brownville Road near the Green Bridge in the 1950s. For some reason, the car swerved off the road and end up in a ditch. The man went for help. When he returned, his wife was gone. He never saw her again.
The mystery of what happened endures to this day, but motorists tell of seeing a woman in white walking along Brownville Road. When they take a second look, the woman has vanished.
Sequin Island Lighthouse
The Sawguin Island Lighthouse has a long history, with one particularly brutal chapter. The story goes that the lighthouse keeper bought his wife a piano to help her pass the time in the lonely surroundings. The piano only came with one piece of sheet music, which the wife played over and over.
That song drove the keeper insane, and one night he took an axe and chopped up the piano and then his wife, before he killed himself. Walk near the lighthouse at night and some say you can still hear that deadly song floating on the ocean breeze.
Biddeford’s City Theatre
After being rebuilt following a massive fire, Biddeford’s City Theatre is the site of one tragic ghost story. Eva Gray, a singer from the early 1900s, was performing on Halloween Eve. Following her third curtain call, Eva collapsed and died backstage as her young daughter looked on.
To this day, theatre visitors tell of strange shadows that play just on the edges of their vision and sounds that seem to come from nowhere. It could be Eva, enjoying an eternal curtain call.
Captain Lord Mansion
In the late 1700s, Nathaniel Lord married Phoebe Walker. The couple would set out to build their dream home. Unfortunately, Nathaniel died of influenza just after the home was completed.
Today that home is the Captain Lord Mansion Bed & Breakfast. Guests report the ghostly figure of a woman that wanders the home, floating through walls and down staircases. Perhaps it’s Phoebe, looking for her husband in the home that they were supposed to share.
Buck Cemetery
In Buck Cemetery, you can visit the grave of Jonathon Buck and perhaps see a strange footprint on his gravestone. Legend says that Jonathon had his mistress murdered after accusing her of being a witch. Before she died, she swore she would return and dance on his grave.
Despite the gravestone being replaced several times, a ghostly footprint always reappears. An old saying says that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Seems like Jonathon Buck is finding that out the hard way.
