The World's Largest Collection of Pandas // Bifengxia Panda Base
Bifengxia Panda Base is the largest panda base in the world. There are around 100 pandas living in the facility. It's located in the Bifeng gorge, a paradise for flora and fauna. 90% of the gorge is covered in vegetation. It's mild temperature and heavy precipitation make it one of the most fertile places in all of Sichuan province.
We visited the pandas, including the panda kindergarten where you can watch baby pandas play, and we hiked through the left gorge - a 2 kilometer trek that takes you past multiple waterfalls and deep into the canyon.

STORYLINE:
Two US-born giant pandas arrived at their new homes in China''s Sichaun Province on Friday.
Workers at the Bifengxia Breeding Base in Ya''an welcomed four-year-old Tai Shan, hours after he and three-year-old Mei Lan landed in Chengdu on a flight from Washington DC.
Mei Lan was taken to the Chengdu Research Base, which has asked the public to choose her boyfriend among profiles of male pandas posted online.
(M) Millions fell in love with Tai Shan, who was born in Washington, and Mei Lan from Zoo Atlanta, watching them grow up via online panda cams.
China lent Tai Shan''s and Mei Lan''s parents to US zoos for conservation and breeding.
Tai Shan''s parents are expected to return to China in December 2011, Xinhua reported.
China has long used pandas as a friendly gesture in diplomacy, and they may be China''s most compelling ambassadors as the country clashes with the US on many issues, including trade, arms sales to Taiwan, human rights and Internet security.
Tai Shan and Mei Lan will become part of a breeding programme in their endangered species'' native land.
About 1,600 giant pandas live in the wild, and another 290 are in captive-breeding programmes worldwide, mainly in China.

Bifengxia Panda Park - Feeding Pandas
Part 1 - Feeding giant pandas at Bifengxia Panda Park
During my trip to Bifengxia I was most fortunate to have a brief encounter with a young lady volunteer who had travelled all the way from Manchester England, to work at the Panda site. She explained how the giant pandas are fed, what to food to feed them, and a fascinating story regarding the terrible earthquake at Wolong Panda base in 2008. One such story was the case of a panda frozen with fear stuck on a tree branch. Apparently it took a team of panda experts 72 hours to prize the panda from the tree.
