Snorkeling on Crete Greece
Snorkeling on Crete Greece: Snorkelling day Crete 2 locations: this day is really suitable for fanatic snorkelers. We have selected two snorkelling locations, where you can enjoy snorkelling. The first location is a large reef with a natural pool in the middle. These are rock and lava formations. Just outside the middle part you have to be careful of the waves, when you are swimming close to the reef. During autumn and winter you will find here schools of tuna fish. At this location you see many colourful fishes and plants in the water. Snorkelling around the large reef is beautiful. Everywhere you see bubbles coming out of the ground, with a cold jet of fresh water, floating into the sea. Along the reef there are many little tunnels, where you can look at the beauty of large lava formations. There is a sandy beach at this snorkelling location, where you can go for sunbathing and swimming. There are also beautiful spots for fishing.

Hello again ! In this video I will tell you about the best places to dive in Crete in my opinion. As always whatever you do my advise is to keep it simple !
No 5 place I propose I the beach of schinaria. Schinaria beach is located in Rethmno in the north of rethymnon close to the borders with Chania. The road is easy to to go and it’s about 33 km from the city of Rethymno very close to damnoni beach. But this video is dedicated to the sea. Shinaria has a diving center called sea dream divers with visitors all along the world. Under the sea you will see a lot of rocks that even form a small cave. In this cave there is no light and you have to bring a lens with you. You won’t see a lot of fish but the landscape under water is one of the best not only in Crete but also in Greece according to my opinion.
No4 is the beach of Elounda. Elounda is located in the south of Agios Nikolaos. An amazing beach with a lot of diving centers around. The best place to dive there is next to spinalonga island. You have to go there by boat a diving center will make the deal. The landscape consists of rocks and grass that are truly beautiful. There you will see plenty of fishes a big range of them. So if you like diving give a shot to elounda.
No3 is a place called Elephant’s cave in Vamos Chania in a village called Kokkino Chorio which means Red Village. It is called elephant’s cave because there are some actual elephant bones from ancient times in the cave. If you enter the cave which is about 12 meters deep. You can see stalactites and stalagmites and a lot of colors. Please note that there is no light in the cave it’s completely dark. So if you decide to visit Elephant’s cave please do it with the help of professionals there are a lot of scuba diving experts that can help you and provide the equipment.
No2 Mononaftis beach. Mononaftis is about 30 minutes from Heraklion City very close to the world famous Agia Pelagia beach. The water in some places can reach about 32 meters of depth. Again you can appreciate the underwater landscape and some cool fishes or even octopuses.
No 1 is a again a cave called blue cave. Before you enter the water you will see a huge rocky wall the entrance of the cave the extends till the surface. The cave has a depth of 12 meters. Be careful at the end though because the end of the cave is very narrow and swim one by one. It is very nice cave with a big length

hey guys here is a video from diving in Crete with ScubaKrete.
Sailing on Crete ( dolphins on crete Dia Island)
Sailing on Crete from Heraklion to Dia: From our accommodation Zorbas Island we enjoy every day the view of Dia Island. The island belongs to the department of Heraklion and is located about 7 nautical miles north of the capital of Crete. When the sky is clear, it seems like you can see every detail of the island. And when the weather changes or when the sun sets, the colour of Dia Island changes. The island seems to have its own story, which is all the more reason to explore it yourself. The only way to get there is by boat to Dia.
Sailing to Dia: We sail from Heraklion to Dia with a Bavaria C45, a 14 meter long sailing yacht. First we start the day with the sea breeze in our hair and lazing on the deck in the sun. But perhaps you prefer fishing on the boat, that is possible too. With a little bit of luck, we can see dolphins swimming. Once at Dia, the island appears to offer much more than what appears from a big distance. Thanks to the many bays around the island, it is a paradise for snorkelling. But also a walk on Dia Island to the small white church of Analipsis is a nice thing to do. From here you have a beautiful view to Crete.
During this long day on and near the water you have enough time for relaxation. Perhaps you prefer to be on the boat in the sun, but you can also go fishing, snorkelling, or swimming. And if the sailing is not enough for you, you can also use the rubber rowboat that is taken along. We have lunch on the sailing yacht; a delicious seafood pasta or moussaka if you prefer.
The island of Dia: The island is 5 kilometres long, 3 kilometres wide and 12 square kilometres in size. This uninhabited island of Dia is a protected nature reserve with a Natura 2000 label. There are many protected species of flora and fauna such as certain snails, lizards, wild rabbits, the Cretan mountain goat kri-kri and various native plants. The island is one of the most important areas around Crete where falcons nest (Falco eleonorae). North of Dia there are two small islands, Paximadi and Petalidi.
Mythology about Dia: According to mythology, Zeus created the island. Zeus looked down from the mountain Olympus to Crete and saw the Cretans hunt his favourite goats (kri-kri). These goats were Amalthia's children. Amalthia was the goat who nurtured the young Zeus and hid him in a cave for his father Kronos, who would eat Zeus. He was so angry about it and decided to kill all Cretans.
Zeus blew a lightning in the sea and a giant monster emerged. Then, Poseidon, the god of the sea, reminded him of the protection that Curates (Kouretes) provided him as an infant. Curates were Cretans who beat their shields loudly when Zeus cried, so his father Kronos would not hear him. As a result, Zeus decided to throw two rusks to the monster and then with a lightning he turned to stone the monster and two rusks, turning them into islands. In this way Dia, Paximadi and Petalidi were created.
Seaside holidays in Greece: Everyone who comes to us on holiday has taken at least one picture of the beautiful view we have from our accommodation to Dia Island. If the weather conditions permit, we regularly organize a boat trip to Dia or to other destinations. If you are not a fan of sailing, you can also enjoy the sea view at the accommodation. At the pool and on the beach in front of the accommodation we have sunbeds and umbrellas and you can use these free of charge. We serve your snack and drink on the spot.
