There is an easy way to give back to the Laos community.; Teaching English!
15 minutes from Luang Prabang in the countryside lies Big Sister Mouse a learning center created by Big Brother Mouse.
When the school opened in 2016 only 10 children attended. Today, more than 200 go to school here.
Unfortunately when we were there (February 2019) children were on their holiday break so we taught and practiced English with the teachers.
Most of the teachers come from the countryside of Laos and in order to get work they move to Luang Prabang city.
We played games, danced, practiced pronunciation and learned about how difficult it is for young children to get a good education in Laos.
If you’re ever in Luang Prabang then you should definitely check them out!

HEY ALL,
This is my last and final video from our trip to Laos. I know it took a while for me to put it up, but I have been a bit busy on my end, please understand!!
We didn't do anything too crazy in this video but it was such a beautiful day when we went out on the river.
We also road a sleeper bus on our way back to Vientiane but that definitely was not comfortable..lol. I do not recommend it haha.

Slide show of my one and only trip to Laos. In this video I feature the sights of Luang Prabang listed as a World Heritage site and understandably so if you've been there. Very quaint and laid back. Loved the dinky little airport I landed in when flying in from Hanoi.

Book on Laos a hit with both local and foreign readers

Just three months after the English-language book Laos: Work in Progress was published in Laos, it is reprinting to keep up with surprisingly high demand.
The book's author, Dr Robert Cooper, is a recognised expert on Laos. He writes for anybody interested in Laos and uses everyday language to make his book informative and entertaining for Lao people and foreigners.
The structure of the book makes for ready reference and Dr Cooper has a lively and sympathetic way of presenting statistics.
This is how he opens: It may surprise the average reader to learn that the average Lao has one breast and one testicle. Such humour makes statistics far from dry.
Dr Cooper, who earned his Ph D in economic a nthropology, writes, publishes and prints in Laos and is happy and surprised by the response the book has received in its first three months.
At first he printed just 800 copies but stock rapidly dropped to 150 copies and the book is now already in reprint.
The 314-page book covers various aspects of Laos including its economy, welfare, education, health, governance, religion and ethnicity.
It is specifically about what Laos must do in order to graduate from least developed country status and become a middle income country.
It highlights the country's education system and explores reasons why Lao pe ople do not read.
Dr Cooper has lived in Laos much of his life, working as an anthropologist, United Nations official, and Head of the British Trade Office.
He is now retired in Vientiane. He runs a bookshop downtown on Heng Boun Road and republishes work on Laos in English.
His university career and fluency in many languages, including Lao and French, allow him to understand the local context and explain things simply for readers looking to find out more about the country.
Dr Cooper is also the author of The Lao, Laos and You and the Culture Shock guides to Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Laos.
Dr Cooper has no plans to translate Laos: Work in Progress into other languages despite it selling well. He has worked on translations to Lao language of other books and knows it is a long and costly process.
He has also written much about the Hmong ethnic minority.
He is a fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute and is known academically for his The Hmong an ethnography of traditional life, which has many beautiful pictures and also has a Lao version.
Dr Cooper will publish his next novel, Our Man in Laos, in April.
