Discover Big Buddha Temple, the island’s most evocative cultural treasures. Nearby, Wat Phra Yai—also known as the Big Buddha Temple—sits on a small rocky island off the northeast corner of Samui. Its golden, 12-metre Buddha statue was built in 1972 and remains one of the island’s most popular attractions.

Koh Samui Drive from Chaweng Beach Road North to Big Buddha in Bophut - Koh Samui travel video
This Koh Samui driving video from Chaweng Beach North to Big Buddha in Bophut is aimed at travellers visiting Koh Samui for the first time (or planning to go) or travellers who have been there already. Our hope is that the drive will give you a feeling of the scenery on the island and of course give you an idea of the time and distances between areas on the islands. Getting around between Bophut, Lamai Beach and Chaweng Beach is very easy and if you have not rented a car you can travel by taxi, songthaew taxi (local public transport) or even by motorcycle taxi.
We are on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand and are making a trip from Chaweng Beach North to the Big Buddha which lies north of Koh Samui Airport in Bophut. We chose to make use of a Songthaew taxi as it is usually the cheapest option (and most fun).
Wiki writes about a Songthaew taxi, A songthaew (Thai สองแถว is a passenger vehicle in Thailand and Laos adapted from a pick-up or a larger truck and used as a share taxi...It takes its name from the two bench seats fixed along either side of the back of the truck; in some vehicles a third bench is put down the middle of the seating area. Additionally a roof is fitted over the rear of the vehicle, to which curtains and plastic sheeting to keep out rain may be attached. Some vehicles have roofs high enough to accommodate standing passengers within the vehicle....
The price of North Chaweng Beach to the entrance of Big Buddha in Bophut is 200 Baht for two persons and the trip takes just over 10 minutes. You can see from the video that our driver was in a hurry and was driving very fast and not picking anybody up. It was the end of his shift and he was in a hurry to get his taxi back to BoPhut where the next driver was waiting for him. This trip took around 6 minutes 40 seconds compared to the normal 10 minutes. The price for a standard private air conditioned taxi is 300 Baht (as can be seen there is not much difference between the public transport price and the private taxi price. We always choose to take a Songthaew tuktuk taxi as it is more fun sitting in the back of the pickup feeling the wind blowing in your face while looking at the surroundings. Before getting onto the Songthaew taxi it is very important that you speak with the driver and agree/haggle about the price (we had a few drivers who tried to charge much more than the normal tourist price).
On this drive watch out for hotels and landmarks such as the Kandaburi Resort and Spa, The Larder Koh Samui, Coral Bay Resort & Spa, Sasitara Residence, The entrance to the Samui Crocodile Farm, The Koh Samui Airport etc.
Wiki writes about Ko Samui, Ko Samui, is an island off the east coast of the Kra Isthmus in Thailand. Geographically in the Chumphon Archipelago, it is administratively part of Surat Thani Province...
Wikitravel writes about Chaweng Beach, Chaweng is the largest and most popular of Samui's beaches, and is usually divided into four sections: North Chaweng, Central Chaweng, South Chaweng and Chaweng Noi (Little Chaweng) which is around a headland and at the southern most tip of Chaweng. Chaweng Beach is approximately 7 km long, making it the longest beach on the east coast. It is lined with coconut trees and boasts year long, warm (temperatures range between 25-28°C.) emerald-blue waters in the Gulf of Thailand...
Wikitravel writes about BoPhut, Bophut is one of the few places on Samui that retains some of the island's original Thai-Chinese atmosphere. It has recently experiencing a boom with new hotels and guesthouses sprouting up at a frantic pace. The traditional core of Bophut, known as the Fisherman's Village, is a charming village on the east side of the beach while the new developments are to the west...
This road footage between Chaweng Beach North ato the entrance of the Big Buddha Statue in Bophut is filmed from the back of a Songthaew on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand.

Koh Samui - Fish Market between Bangrak Pier and Big Buddha - Koh Samui travel video
We are at the Old Fish Market located in Bangrak on Koh Samui, Thailand. Banrak is the area which lies between the islands two top attractions The Big Buddha and The Fishermans Village (see our video about the Fishermans Village Friday Night Market). This is also the area where the Bangrak Pier is located (where ferries from Koh Phangan etc. arrive and depart). The old Fish market is located at the end of Sanam Bin Road opposite the Plaza the Green shopping center (one could be tempted to think that the shopping center was actually meant to be called The Green Plaza??).
The Old Fish Market is absolutely very well worth a visit for any traveler. Other than fish the market is full of all kinds of exotic fruit, vegetables, meats, herbs + spices, produce, toads, eels and other very exotic local foods.
This Thai market is free to visit and is an attraction worth visiting before or after a visit to the Big Buddha. Taxis and TukTuk´s are easy to take from this point so whether you wish to continue on to Fisherman's Village, Lamai Beach, Chaweng Beach or any other point on the island it is easy from here. When visiting the Big Buddha or arriving at the Bangrak ferry jetty, do not make the mistake of thinking you can walk to Bophut from this area (it is rather far to the touristy part of Bophut Beach, Fisherman´s Village etc.), take a tuk tuk or taxi!
This footage is filmed at the Old Bang Rak fishermans market which lies at the end of Sanam Bin Road opposite the Plaza the Green shopping center and between the Big Buddha Statue and the Bangrak ferry jetty at Bophut Beach on the island of Koh Samui, Thailand. This market (and worthwhile tourist attraction) is easily accessible by motorcycle, taxi or tuktuk by travelers living at hotels, resorts or bungalows located at Lamai Beach, Chaweng Beach or Bophut Beach.

Avaliação no TripAdvisor (

BIG BUDDHA TEMPLE⛩ (Koh Samui) (Thailand????????)
One of Koh Samui’s most impressive landmarks and one that is difficult to miss is the Big Buddha.
Approaching Koh Samui by plane from the North you will see the massive golden colored Buddha image overlooking the sea. If you are coming from neighboring Koh Pha Ngan by boat arriving at Bo Phut pier or Big Buddha pier, you will see the enormous image on top of a rock slowly coming into sight.
12 Meter tall golden Buddha image
The 12 meters tall image that was built in 1972 is located inside the temple grounds of the Wat Phra Yai, meaning Big Buddha temple.⁉

BIG BUDDHA KOH SAMUI THAILAND
Big Buddha or Wat Phra Yai, is one of the most popular tourist attractions on Koh Samui, this is what I saw.
Big Buddha Temple - Koh Samui - Thailand
Big Buddha temple sits majestically on a small rocky island off Koh Samui’s north-eastern corner. Known locally as Wat Phra Yai, its golden, 12-metre seated Buddha statue was built in 1972 and remains one of the island’s most popular attractions. Set on Koh Faan, Big Buddha temple is reached by a causeway that connects it to the main island. The Big Buddha can be seen at a distance of several kilometres and is often the first landmark people see when arriving to Samui by air. The Big Buddha sits in the Mara posture, with the left hand’s palm up resting on the lap and the right hand facing down, the fingers hanging over the knee and grazing the ground. It depicts a time during Buddha’s journey to enlightenment where he successfully subdued the temptations and dangers thrust at him by the devil-figure Mara by meditating and remaining calm. The pose is a symbol of steadfastness, purity and enlightenment.
