Big Buddha Temple | Shaoxing | China(绍兴 - 大佛寺)
The Dafo (Big Buddha) Temple of Xinchang (the geographical qualifier is necessary, since there are five such Big Buddha temples spread about China) was built during the early years of the first period of rule – the Yonghe (CE 345–357) period – of Emperor Mu Di of the Eastern Jin (CE 317–420) Dynasty. The Big Buddha Statue itself is located in a grotto, and is carved of a massive slab of granite which, thankfully, is less subject to time-induced degradation than other stone types such as sandstone.
Historical Relic Raiders Caught in Hebei, N China
Eight suspects were recently spotted trying to dig a tunnel into four ancient pagodas aged 800 years old in east China's Zhengding county, where many ancient cultural relics can be found.
In the middle November 2014, Zhang and Yang were on a tour of Guanghui Temple and Hua Pagoda. They analyzed that there was an underground palace under Hua Pagoda. Then they organized their people to rent a restaurant and started their construction in the back of it, said Zhang Hongjun, the chief of Zhengding criminal police.
He said there was a gold Buddha statue. Everyone would get several hundred thousand yuan when we finished and then we would be done with the business, said suspect Li.
The police said the gang's leader Zhang who has a criminal record thought there were some valuable relics buried under the pagoda. So Zhang spent 80,000 yuan to hire some people joining him and digging a tunnel heading to the pagoda.
The end of the tunnel which was six-meter-deep and some 100 meters long has already extended directly beneath the pagoda.
The gang packed the earth they dig out into bags and stacked them into the restaurant. Unfortunately, their suspicious actions were tipped off by local residents and police smashed the gang after receiving the information.
Five out of eight suspects were captured and the rest were put on the chasing list. The arrested suspects are under criminal detention and the case is under further investigation.

Kaiyuan Temple, Quanzhou, China Kai元temple, Q u按周
On a rainy day we visited the Kaiyuan Temple 開元寺; Kaiyuan Si; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Khai-gôan-sī), also known as the Ziyun Hall 紫雲堂; Zǐyún táng; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Chí-hûn-tông), is a Buddhist temple on West Street, Quanzhou, China, the largest in Fujian province.
Although it is known as a Hindu-Buddhist temple, on account of added Tamil-Hindu influences, the main statue in the most important hall is that of Vairocana Buddha, the main Buddha according to Huayen-buddhism. What is now called the Mahavira Hall (Mahavira - the Great and Strong) is in fact the Vairocana Hall.
It was originally built in 685 or 686 during the Tang Dynasty. Behind its main hall Mahavira Hall”, there are some columns with fragments from a Shiva temple built in 1283 by the Tamil community in Quanzhou dedicated to Hindu God Shiva.
The carvings are dispersed across five primary sites in Quanzhou and the neighboring areas. They were made in the South Indian style, and share close similarities with 13th-century temples constructed in the Chola Nadu region in Tamil Nadu. Nearly all of the carvings were carved with greenish-gray granite, which was widely available in the nearby hills and used in the region's local architecture.
In 1983, the Kaiyuan Temple was designated as a national temple.

SUMMARY
=======
A pagoda is a tiered tower with multiple eaves, built in traditions originating as stupa in historic South Asia and further developed in East Asia or with respect to those traditions, common to Nepal, China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Sri Lanka and other parts of Asia. Some pagodas are used as Taoist houses of worship. Most pagodas were built to have a religious function, most commonly Buddhist, and were often located in or near viharas. In some countries, the term may refer to other religious structures. In Vietnam and Cambodia, due to French translation, the English term pagoda is a more generic term referring to a place of worship, although pagoda is not an accurate word to describe a Buddhist vihara. The modern pagoda is an evolution of the stupa which originated in ancient India. Stupas are a tomb-like structure where sacred relics could be kept safe and venerated. The architectural structure of the stupa has spread across Asia, taking on many diverse forms as details specific to different regions are incorporated into the overall design.

SUMMARY
=======
Hebei (河北; formerly romanised as Hopeh) is a province of China in the North China region. The modern province was established in 1911 as Zhili Province or Chihli Province. Its one-character abbreviation is 冀 (Jì), named after Ji Province, a Han dynasty province (zhou) that included what is now southern Hebei. The name Hebei literally means north of the river, referring to its location entirely to the north of the Yellow River.The modern province Chili Province was formed in 1911 after the central government dissolved the central governed area of Chihli, which means Directly Ruled (by the Imperial Court) until it was renamed as Hebei in 1928.
Beijing and Tianjin Municipalities, which border each other, were carved out of Hebei. The province borders Liaoning to the northeast, Inner Mongolia to the north, Shanxi to the west, Henan to the south, and Shandong to the southeast. Bohai Bay of the Yellow Sea is to the east. A small part of Hebei, Sanhe Exclave, consisting of Sanhe, Dachang Hui Autonomous County, and Xianghe County, an exclave disjointed from the rest of the province, is wedged between the municipalities of Beijing and Tianjin.
A common alternate name for Hebei is Yānzhào (燕趙), after the state of Yan and state of Zhao that existed here during the Warring States period of early Chinese history.
