About King Ludwig II:
Ludwig II (Ludwig Otto Friedrich Wilhelm 25 August 1845 – 13 June 1886) was King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death in 1886. He is sometimes called the Swan King or der Märchenkönig (the Fairy Tale King).
He succeeded to the throne aged 18. Two years later Bavaria and Austria fought a war against Prussia, which they lost. However, in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 Bavaria sided with Prussia against France, and after the Prussian victory it became part of the new German Empire led by Prussia. Though Bavaria retained a degree of autonomy on some matters within the new German Reich, Ludwig increasingly withdrew from day-to-day affairs of state in favor of extravagant artistic and architectural projects. He commissioned the construction of two lavish palaces and Neuschwanstein Castle, and he was a devoted patron of the composer Richard Wagner. Ludwig spent all his royal revenues on these projects, borrowed extensively, and defied all attempts by his ministers to restrain him. This extravagance was used against him to declare him insane, an accusation which has since come under scrutiny. Today, his architectural and artistic legacy includes many of Bavaria's most important tourist attractions

Munich, Germany
Munich, or München (“Home of the Monks”), now Munich is the 3rd largest city in Germany, right now I am in the central square of Munich is called Marienplatz.
The Glockenspiel at the Marienplatz in Munich Germany is one of the city most famous attractions.
You can see the fountains square is called Karlsplatz Stachus is a large square in central Munich, southern Germany. The square was officially named Karlsplatz in 1797. Since it’s a central square lots of shopping center and restaurants beer bars etc, Germany is famous for a beer so I will be having lots of beer this evening from Munich.
Common times to visit are May–Oct, when the weather is warm. Winters (Dec–Feb) can be cold and snowy, and are a popular time for winter-sport visitors. Oktoberfest (Sep–Oct) is a huge celebration of local beer, brass-band music and folk customs also featuring carnival rides and more. Other popular events include the Christmas Market and the Tollwood Festival (both in Dec) and the Fasching carnival (Jan–Mar), when locals dress up for the city’s countless balls and parties.

Europe Trip - Munich-Bavaria
In May of 2009 my family, my friend Chris, and myself set out on an amazing and unforgettable 2 week trip through Europe. Starting in London, our weary group traveled to Paris, Munich, through Austria and Switzerland, into the northern mountains of Italy, along the German/French border, and then finally ended in London once again for the trip home. It encompassed every site imaginable in what can easily be considered an extremely short amount of time, and included travel by plane, train, and even the world's most expensive automobile ever made. It was a truly epic journey, visiting some of the most amazing sites and most breathtaking scenery one could ever imagine. Appendages were lost, relationships pushed to the edge, and some language barriers left fully intact. Yet still, ask any one of the brave souls who endured the trip, and I assure you only a memory of one the most eventful and wonderful vacations imaginable are left most prominent. I only hope it doesn't take long for me to visit that historic and beautiful continent once again, and hope that my videos might inspire you to take the plunge and visit Europe for yourself.
Oh Germany, how I love you so. Your wonderful beer flows from morning till night, and your country side is full of breathtaking sights of flowers and castle ruins. For most of the world, stereotypes are rarely ever true. I myself have been asked where my cowboy boots and hat are, for the mere reason of living in Texas. My Condo residing in the 7th largest city in the US probably doesn't quite fit with most people's imaginings of Texas. Southern Germany however, fit every stereotype I have ever heard. From the clothes, to the homes, to the people's love affair of beer; it was all true. The countryside appeared to have come straight from a movie, with white stucco homes complete with brown roof and accents and even a lovely flower bed dawning each window. In the morning, it wasn't uncommon to walk by a restaurant filled with beer drinkers enjoying their breakfast. Being a beer lover myself, I felt right at home with a colossal beer mug in one hand and a pretzel in the other. Munich felt like a much younger city, with people sunbathing all throughout the city and parks. Shockingly the parks, which were clothing optional, were not featuring hot naked girls, but seemed to be littered with only beautiful girls in bikinis... and completely nude old fat men, which were unpleasant to see no matter which side of their body they were tanning at the moment. Despite that huge let down (no pun intended), Germany was wonderful, and I can't wait to return and explore it more.
In this video you see the Munich, Bavaria, Neuschwanstein.

Munich, Germany and Oktoberfest
Located in the south-eastern part of Germany, Munich is the capital of the German state of Bavaria.
Munich has a population of nearly 1500000 (source: Wikipedia), making it the third largest city in Germany. The Munich Metropolitan Region has a population of 58000000 (source: Wikipedia).
Munich is a global city (alpha-). It is twinned with:
Edinburgh, Scotland
Verona, Italy
Bordeaux, France
Sapporo, Japan
Cincinnati, Ohio
Kiev, Ukrain
Harare, Zimbabwe
For 16 days beginning in mid/late September, concluding the first weekend in October, 6000000 people gather in Munich to attend Oktoberfest, the festival of beer. This has been a Bavarian tradition since 1810.
Numerous large and small beer tents (wooden, non-permanent structures) are constructed for use during Oktoberfest. Available in these tents are music, food, wine and beer from the six Munich breweries:
Augustiner-Bräu
Hacker-Pschorr
Staatliches Hofbräuhaus
Löwenbräu
Paulaner
Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu
Only beer brewed in Munich can be sold at Oktoberfest.
In addition to the beer tents, you will find many other attractions on the fairgrounds where Oktoberfest takes place. Among these attractions are amusement rides, sidestalls, games, and food.
Getting around Munich is easy with its public transportation system, which consists of U-Bahn (metro), S-Bahn (trains), trams and busses. Multi-use cards are available for purchase, which give you access to any mode of transportation.

Oktoberfest in Munich, the World's Largest Fair
Octoberfest is the world's largest fair held annually in Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is a 16-day festival running from late September to the first weekend in October with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since 1810. Other cities across the world also hold Oktoberfest celebrations, modeled after the original Munich event.
The festival is held in an area named the Theresienwiese, located near Munich's center. Large quantities of Oktoberfest Beer are consumed, with almost 7 million litres served during the 16 day festival in 2007. Visitors may also enjoy a wide variety of traditional food.
The first Oktoberfest took place on the 12 October 1810, to celebrate the marriage of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen. All citizens of Munich were invited to a meadow situated in front of the city tower. In the early years of the fair, horse races were held, then as the event grew, included agricultural conventions, which still take place every fourth year.
In 1896, businessmen working with the breweries in Munich built the first giant beer tents at Oktoberfest, and drinking has been the primary focus since. Each of the major breweries presides over its own large tent filled with traditional musicians leading the crowd in well-known drinking chants, incredibly strong barmaids hoisting ten or more huge Mas (1 liter glass beer mugs that are heavy even when empty!), and a spate of drunken people all trying to get into the bathroom at once. There are currently fourteen large tents and twenty small tents at the Oktoberfest. The tents are non-permanent structures which are constructed for and only used during the festival.

Munich's Oktoberfest
If Germany's on your list, consider timing your trip around one of Europe's biggest parties: Munich's Oktoberfest. I've been in Munich for each of the last two Oktoberfests, and I'm so impressed by the simple Bavarian joy of the party. For a visitor, there's no better place to see (and join) Germans at play. Inside huge beer-hall tents, you'll find a slap-happy world of lederhosen, dirndls, fancy hats, and maidens with flowers in their hair. Join the party with me in this clip from my new, one-hour Rick Steves' European Festivals public television special.
And if you're heading to Germany, the Rick Steves Germany 2018 guidebook just hit the shelves: Happy travels!
