Interfaith Encounter Association: Karmiel & Majd-el-Krum joint work.wmv
The Interfaith Encounter Association works to build sustainable coexistence in the Holy Land, through interactive interfaith dialogue. In our work we support the formation and maintenance of on-going groups for interfaith encounter, in which friendly relations are built between the different communities, while acknowledging and respecting their distinct identities. Here is the story of the group that brings together the Jewish community of Karmiel and the Muslim community of Majd el-Krum.
This group started as a result of the deterioration of the relations between the two neighboring towns, which followed the October 2000 clashes between Arabs and Jews in Israel. The principals of the two main schools in the two towns decided that they have to act in order to restore the good relations between the two communities and strengthen their foundation so that it will be more sustainable. They started by consolidating a core group of 10 teachers from each of the schools, who believed in the process and were committed to continue it, despite the outside reality.
After 15 facilitated meetings they continued to the next step and included the children, starting with joint study of the plants of the land, and moving to mutual visits to each other's homes and places of worships, and large events like a jointly-held market for foods and children's handicrafts.
Through the children the parents were drawn too and today the group includes in its activities some 800 children and some 200 adults.

Israel - Funeral for victim of Tel Aviv bar shooting | Editor's Pick | 3 Jan 16
The funeral of Alon Bakal, one of the two people killed in Friday's restaurant shooting in Tel Aviv, took place in Karmiel, northern Israel on Sunday.
Alon's mother, Nitza, broke down in tears over the body of her son, wrapped in traditional Jewish cloth.
This unbearable pain I will never be able to carry, she told the congregation.
More than 48 hours after the attack, the suspected shooter, Nashat Milhem, from the Arab village of Arara, was still at large.

Beitar Illit is covered with heavy snow, stunning
While snow pummeled the Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and Northern areas of Israel over the weekend, the Tel Aviv area and the Western side of Israel faced torrential rains and flooding Saturday.
Total damages have been estimated to be over 300 million shekel thus far, according to Channel 2.
The floods have also proved deadly. Saturday evening, the bodies of two men were found in the Tze'elim Stream, near Arad. The stream had been flooded in the storm and had drowned the two men, who had been in the midst of a hike, medics stated.
Rain also hit Hamas-controlled Gaza particularly hard, causing hundreds of residents to be evacuated by boat, according to AFP. Some news agencies have estimated the water evacuations to have reached at least 5000 by Sunday morning. A Gazan told Israel Radio Gaza has sunken.
The dangerous flooding follows a decision by Hamas to shut down a local power station rather than pay taxes on fuel to Fatah, a shutdown which caused at least one pump station to flood and three others to approach an overflow.
Despite dealing with its own storm emergencies, Israel is transferring fuel, pumping equipment and other supplies into the region in the aftermath of the storm later Sunday.
Meanwhile, snow begins to subside in Jerusalem and across the country. At least 13,000 people are estimated to still be without power as of Sunday morning.
Taibe @ Galilee - Aerial Views (BibleWalks.com)
Remains of a Crusader fortress and town, located in the center of a Muslim village (et Taiyibe) in the Jezreel valley, near the stream of Nahal Issachar.
It started as a Biblical city, identified by some scholars as Ophrah - the city of the judge Gideon. (Judges 6:11: And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abiezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites. Some of its remains are located east of the village in the ruin named Horbat Haddad. The name Ophrah was translated to the Arabic name Taibe, meaning: good.
The town grew in the Roman and Byzantine period and covered a large area now occupied by the modern village. According to the finding of an incense shovel, it was a Jewish town.
The Crusader fortress (Le Forbelet) is located only 7KM west of the Belvoir Crusader fortress. The castle consists of a strong tower-keep, with a square (26.3m) plan, 4 groin-vaulted bays supported on massive central pier (2.1m) and walls 4m thick. It defended the Crusaders passage to their strongholds in Mt Tabor, Beit Shean and Afula. The fortress was occupied by the knights of the Hospitallers order. It was damaged by Saladin in 1183, but then restored. During the campaign against Belvoir (1187/88) the castle was used as a Arab base to besiege Belvoir. The fortress was later used by the Mamlukes (renamed ‘Afrabala) and the town grew around it. Buildings and structural remains are exposed on the north side of the fortress. The ruins are in bad shape and we hope that the site will undergo conservation works and open to the public.
The modern Muslim village of et-Taiyiba was founded in 1920 by the Zoabi clan. A mosque was built near the ruins of the fortress.

Dance of the Cranes 7.15.15 at 8:15pm
On the evening of July 15, 2015 at 8:15pm, two high-rise construction cranes came to life in a synchronized spectacle of motion. Dance of the Cranes consisted of a choreographed dance performed by two high-rise construction cranes towering over the streets of Washington, D.C.
At dusk, the cranes slowly begin to pivot, rotate and sway in harmonized gestures, each crane performing the same delicate motion hundreds of feet above the viewers on the sidewalks and in Milian Park below. As the performance progressed, the accompanying music echoed through the streets, creating the sensation that the entire city can be a stage for this complex performance and immersing the audience within the spectacle. Repurposing these utilitarian machines as the star performers in a delicate dance, created the opportunity to forever change the way the audience relates to the city around them
Dance of the Cranes, presented by Capital Fringe as part of the 2015 Capital Fringe Festival
Chorographer: Brandon Vickerd
Supported by:
Gould Property, Oxford Property, Clark Construction and Miller and Long
600 Massachusetts Avenue, NW
Optimum viewing was from Milian Park (499 Massachusetts Ave., NW)
This event was free and open to all.
