Madurantakam is a town and a municipality in Kancheepuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The town is known for the artificial and second largest lake in Tamil Nadu, the Maduranthakam lake and it is located very near to the state capital Chennai. It is believed to be built by the Chola King Uthama Chozha, also called as Maduranthakar, during his reign. It is also home to the Aeri Katha Ramar Temple. As of 2011, the town had a population of 30,796.


Maduranthakam aeri, or Maduranthakam lake, is a lake spread over 2400 acres in Maduranthakam, Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu, India. It is an artificial lake and is the third largest lake in the district of Kancheepuram.

The reservoir near Madurantakam irrigates more than 1000 small villages in and around the town. Kiliyar is a small river that originates from the madurantakam reservoir which will be flooded when the reservoir is full. The kiliyar river joins palar before entering bay of Bengal.

We Stayed in Tilakam Nest - Krishna Paradise, 3rd Cross | Opp: Tamil Nadu Hotel, Yercaud, India. Really a wonderful place... Sounded with full of greenery... Food served in that place is tasty and cheap too...

1.Anna Park
Though the climate is not at the bone freezing temperature it is a wonderful place to roam around, Lot of flowering plants are available all around the park among huge trees. Maintained well. Plants for sale are also available. Located in the heart of the city opposite to the Emerald Lake. Parking is a little bit difficult and you have to park in a distant place and come to this park. Children's play area is available, Good to see.
2.Lady's Seat
Ladies seat is a viewpoint which offers a great view of Salem town from the hilltop. We can see the town from far away as well as the beautiful view of hairpin bends too...
3.Big Lake - Boating
Yercaud lake boating is one of the must and compulsory visit place by all the tourist. This lake is beautiful and clean there are different types of boats like Pedal boat, motorboat etc. the charges of the boat is also very reasonable. There are a lot of other counters like Key chain maker, photo frame maker, snacks counter etc.
4.Shevaroy Temple
It's a cave temple and it's the overall height of Yercaud. Temple is placed at top of Yercaud. It's a cave-like structure and it's very cool when we go inside the temple. Amazing place I loved it.

More than 3 hours it will take to reach Hogenakkal, The place Hogenakkal full of water and Famous place for Parisal Boating... Anyway, it's a dangerous ride... all the peoples visit there will love to ride.. even though they don't know swimming...Safety swimming guards will be provided...
