Big Laurel Falls ~ Franklin ~ North Carolina
A Hike to Big Laurel Falls
Big Laurel Falls is located near Franklin, NC. It is not a large waterfall but it is picturesque and the hike to it is very enjoyable. The trail starts where Mooney Creek & Big Laurel Branch meet as the two main tributaries that make up the Nantahala River. This is the headwaters area for the river and is well know for its remoteness as well as its wild trout population.
Direct sunlight was very limited and it proved to be very challenging to shoot video. It was probably the darkest area I have ever shot. There was about 1 hour of good lighting and even with that ISO was at 800 and 1600. I definitely need to acquire a low light lens for these situations.
This video was shot with the Panasonic GH4 camera at 1080p, 60fps and 200mbps, standard and Cine-V profile. Lenses used were the Panasonic 14-45mm, 45-175mm and Olympus 60mm macro. On this trip I used my new Ifootage Shark Slider for the first time and found it to be very smooth. Edited with Edius 5.51 and encoded for the web using Windows Media Video 9.
I discovered some fantastic new age music by an artist simply known as XPURM. There is hardly anything about him on the web except that he lives/lived in Egypt. The name of the song is DWMWD” and is licensed for use under Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives (aka Music Sharing) 3.0 International License.

About Mooney Falls: THE LOCAL SCOOPMooney Falls cascades over a series of rocks making this is a nice spot to visit especially if staying in the Standing Indian area at either Standing Indian Campground or Hurricane Creek Primitive Campground & Horse Camp. We suggest pairing this waterfall with one of the area's multiple outdoor activities. Close by is Laurel Falls & Trail, Pickens Nose Trail, Albert Mtn Trail & Fire Tower along with many other foot trails, horse trails, fishing and biking opportunities. You and your family can easily enjoy the majority of these activities in one day, but we recommend splitting them up especially if you are camping for more than a day or two. Bartram Trail - Wallace Branch Trailhead & Falls - Franklin, NC
The Bartram Trail just outside of Franklin, NC is a great place to go for a hike or trail run. Here, we show you a great little waterfall near the 'Wallace Branch Trailhead.' We call it, 'Wallace Branch Falls.'
Teen dies after fight outside middle school
A 13-year old girl from Attucks Middle School ended up on life support at Texas Children's Hospital two days after a fight off campus.
Kashala Francis' mother, Mamie Jackson, says her daughter told her she was attacked by two girls after school on Thursday, and that another girl later jumped in and kicked her in the head.
Jackson says when her daughter returned home Thursday afternoon, she had a bruise on her face, but insisted she was okay.

Waterfalls of Western North Carolina USA 2014
This video condenses seventeen miles of hiking, mostly back woods, to visit more than nineteen waterfalls during a three day period. During that period, we had a snowy morning with a brisk 23F temperature and the last day the temperatures climbed to a balmy 70F. The trailheads for each location are easy to reach by car, provided you have a methodical plan. These waterfalls are just a small sample of the dozens found in Western North Carolina. Those we visited were located in the Nantahala National Forest, Pisgah National Forest and a couple in Jackson County on Private Property in the United States. Most of these require determined research and attention to details to locate them; several can be seen from the roadside or easily reached with a short walk. Some are very public with maintained trails; others are merely a slightly worn trail weaving between trees, with only the sounds of the waterfall and previous footprints to guide you in. I strongly endorse and recommend a guide book by Melissa Watson ISBN 978-0-7627-7150-9. Her attention to detail allowed me to map out this awesome three days of hiking, THANK YOU! Many of the hikes are moderate to strenuous, but the payoffs are well worth it as you will see. I have also included some shots of my family that serve as my personal diary of this totally fantastic rustic Thanksgiving Weekend trip, thanks for understanding their inclusion and enjoy your armchair hike! The Falls: Big Laurel Falls, Mooney Falls, Rufus Morgan Falls, Cullasaja Falls, Cascades on the Cullasaja, Glen Falls (multiple), Quarry Falls, Dry Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, Picklesimer Rock House Falls, Lake Sequoyah Dam, Silver Run Falls, Hurricane Falls, Toxaway Falls, Rainbow Falls, Stairway Falls, John's Jump Falls, Turtleback Falls, and Drift Falls.
Three Top Mountain, NC
A hidden gem in NC, you won't find this trail in the guidebooks because it's off the beaten track, but it is worth the effort, I guarantee!
