This Girl Loves...France's 'La Loire à Vélo' Cycling Trail
'La Loire à Vélo' is a cycling route which stretches 600km along the length of France's longest river, from Cuffy, near Nevers, to St Brévin-les-Pins on the Atlantic Coast. Last summer, Pedro, Gariné and myself set off from Nantes and spent a weekend travelling east along the route to Fontevraud l'Abbaye, covering nearly 150km of the route in the process.

French Cycling Holiday Tours - Loire Valley Chateaux
The Loire Valley upstream from Tours is the home of perhaps the most famous and beautiful of all of the Châteaux: Chenonceaux, with its graceful arches spanning the River Cher; Chambord set in the midst of Royal hunting forests and adorned with minarets, domes and towers; Amboise with its battlements and fluttering pennants dominating the Loire.
We visit all of these châteaux and more, and in between ride through some of the most beautiful pastoral countryside that France has to offer. We will discover the intrigue and deception , politics and passions that shaped the history of France. The Château de Blois, scene of one of the bloodiest massacres in the name of religious secularism , is a visit not to be missed, especially at night illuminated in a spectacular son et lumière.
All of this history and beauty (not to mention the pedalling) should stir the appetite and you won't be disappointed; some of the region's finest restaurants are included on our Loire Valley cycling tour, showcasing the specialities of the Touraine.
This French Cycling holiday is predominantly flat, with just the odd ascent to make you feel you've earned your supper. Following the course of the rivers Loire and Cher, the roads are practically car-free, and many kilometres are covered on dedicated cycleways.
The Loire Valley tour showcases the very best of this fascinating region, and will be a cycling vacation you'll never forget!

BIKE TOUR: DAY 1! Cycling the south of France !
Hello ! Welcome to the bike tour. I am cycling across the southern coast in France across to Italy. This is my first ever bike tour, with some planning, some not planned, and a whole lot of excitement. In the first day I started in Cannes, France and cycled into Nice, France. I viewed this day as more or less a short easy ride to test out the gear and see how it feels to ride. It was also my birthday, so exploring Nice and swimming was a must !

Fun in France's Regal Touraine
There's nothing to see in the Loire Valley. Nothing but fairy-tale castles in every shape and size. Imposing towers and pincushion spires. Flying buttresses and astonishingly flawless gardens. Nothing but fertile fields crisscrossed by gracefully meandering rivers. Easygoing routes for younger riders. And lots of pedaling options for the older crowd. Nothing but treats at patisseries, gourmet cuisine and exquisite wines. A visit to Leonardo da Vinci's house and a fencing lesson just for kids. History comes to life. The Loire Valley - nothing short of the perfect family getaway.

BICYCLE TOURING FRANCE - Part 2 Paris and Loire Valley
In the Summer of 2018 I rode my bike from my hometown Goirle in the Netherlands to the south western corner of France. It took me 9 days to cover a total distance of 1350 km.
For the bigger part I followed the French part of the route to Santiago de Compostella. Also known as the Camino. GPX can be found here (dutch):
This part 2 covers day 4 and 5 of my trip, where I went straight thru the centre of Paris. After Paris I went further South until I reached the river Loire at the city of Orleans. From there I followed the Eurovelo 6 along the Loire until I reached Chaumont sur Loire.

Backroads Loire Valley France Bike Trip
Backroads Premium Inns Loire Valley bike trip in summer 2013. My wife and I enjoyed our first Backroads bike trip this summer with key stops at Domaine des Hauts de Loire, Cheverny, Chambord, Chenonceaux, Domaine de la Tortiniere, Azay-le-Rideau, Villanery, Usse, and Chateau Marcay. Great mix of biking (~200 km), unique chateaus, amazing food (think goat cheese), fine wine, and a new friends. Big shout out to Jerome, Frantz and Gerald who took great care of us.
