The Tomb of Muhammad Bin Ali – Saheb Mirbat - مرباط
Saheb Mirbat (Arabic: مرباط) is a coastal town in the Dhofar governorate, in southwestern Oman.
#mirbat #tomb #oman
It is located at about 16°59′19″N 54°41′32″E. It was the site of the 1972 Battle of Mirbat between Communist guerrillas on one side and the Armed forces of the Sultan of Oman and their Special Air Service advisers.
In ancient times Mirbat was the capital of Dhofar, with an income derived from the frankincense trade and from breeding Arabian horses. During the Dhofar Rebellion it was the site of the Battle of Mirbat in 1972. Today the town has a population of 15,000(approximately) and is known primarily for fishing.
Muhammad Bin Ali, an Islamic scholar. It is actually a white mosque with twin onion domes built over a tomb.
This mosque, set in a huge cemetery, is quite dramatic in its brown and green setting, with tombstones all around it.
Mirbat Oman (مرباط ، عمان) a fishing town some 75 kilometers East of Salalah, is one of the ten wilayats of Dhofar Governorate. It is a charming coastal town situated between the extraordinary escarpment if Jebel Samhan and the Arabian Sea.
There are many lovely beaches in Mirbat and on the way to Mirbat from Salalah. Some of them will definitely persuade you to stop your vehicle on the way to Mirbat.

Mirbat
The former capital of the Dhofar region, Mirbat was an important port when it came to trading frankincense.
Located just a 50-minute drive away from Salalah, you might want to begin your trip at the harbour where wooden fishing boats bring in the day’s catch.
Past the hard-working fishermen who spend more of their lives at sea than on land, is the old town of Mirbat.
Mud brick houses with hand-carved doors and windows built ages ago still stand to this day.
They are a throwback to Mirbat’s past, and a reminder of the simple lives the ancestors of the people of Oman lived.

Prophet Imran's Tomb , Prophet Hood's Tomb , Mohammed Bin Ali Tomb , Prophet Ayub's Tomb
The tomb of Imran is located in downtown Salalah in the Dhofar region of western Oman. Some believe that Imran was a local Arab prophet, and others believe that the name is a reference to the father of Mary mother of Jesus mention in the Quran, or the father of Moses mentioned in the Bible.
Salalah is home to many tombs and shrines that are of great significance to the Islamic religion. Located among the hills and valleys of Dhofar in Salalah lies the tomb of Prophet Hud (PBUH) a revered Islamic figure who as history recollects was sent to preach redemption to the ancient city of Aad. The mausoleum is 3 metres long and 1.5 metres high. The prophet is cited nearly seven times in the Holy book of Quran.
The twin onion domes of this sparkling white monument to Mohammed Bin Ali al Alawi make a powerful impact on the visitor. The setting is pretty unforgettable too, set in a huge cemetery with hundreds of tombstones rising from the green and brown ground like macabre sculptures.
As you wander round, it is strange to think that you are stepping into the past of almost 1,000 years.
Dhofar has a rich history, with important pre-Islamic sites to be found for the adventurous. Bin Ali’s Tomb does not require too much exploration, situated just off a tarmac road rather than off the beaten track. Bin Ali is said to be a descendant of the son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad.
Visitors travel from not just Oman but other GCC countries to see the tomb. I reached the site in the early afternoon, on a cloudy and mild day.
Prophet Ayoub’s Grave is located in the north-west part of Salalah, on the summit of Jabal Atin, and may be reached by taking the road to Ayn Jarziz. There, the visitor will find three hotels and a restaurant. Atin, which lies about 7 kilometres from this point, allows visitors to enjoy its abundant natural history and rare trees, found only in the Dhofar Governorate.
