WFO Christie Lake Conservation Area
Date of Visit: Monday May 19th 2018
Length of paddle: approx. 4.5km
Time to complete: approx. 2hrs (at a leisurely pace)
Weather/wind: Cool, cloudy/sunny low wind, low gusts.
Paddle Level: Beginner
Launch Arrangement: Concrete boat launch
Christie Lake is a man made lake that is part of the Hamilton Conservation Authority. The lake is bound by a dam at one end and a bridge at the other, apparently you can get under the bridge and with a short portage go up another 2.5kms towards Webster falls. We will be back to check this out next time.
Christie Lake is a nice spot, decent launch the atmosphere is generally quiet and peaceful as long as you move away from the pavilion and launch areas, but this is easy and leaves lots of serene lake to enjoy.
There is a admission fee per person, which seems reasonable considering they have good parking, amenities like covered pavilions, lots of picnic benches (shade or sun spots galore) and washroom facilities.
There are kayak and canoe rental although we didn’t really check them out. Other people have said they are basic but fine enough.
We took a leisurely exploratory paddle here with family and were able to do half the lake, come back to the launch (and our vehicles) for a nice lunch break then head back out.
Wildlife was present; lots of fish, minimal Canadian Geese (and minimal droppings at the launch).
Overall a great place especially for beginner paddlers, as the environment allows for always being close to shore for lots of breaks or peace of mind. The launch area is easy to access and especially easy if you have a friend to help you in and out.
If you check out Christie Lake let us know what you thought of it in the comments below.

Greetings From Valens Conservation Area - Vlog Six
We went camping and in the middle of packing everything up, we had the first big thunderstorm of the whole weekend.
It had been five or six years since I had been camping with the family and I enjoyed every single minute of it. Regardless of the bad stuff that happened and that it rained most of the weekend, I enjoyed myself thoroughly. I hope we can do it again!
(And maybe that time I'll record more of the weekend. ;) )
