Salvation - Ginger St. James
.... Ginger St. James ....
This is courtesy of her website ...
A tiny firecracker of a woman, raised on a farm near Hamilton, full of piss and vinegar, has become a serious artist who combines, night after night, two great American traditions: Burlesque and the blues.
St. James found her way into the entertainment business the way most kids do — a guitar at 13, a cheerful streak of exhibitionism , talent contests, and — a defining moment — a guest appearance with a burlesque troupe in a little theatre. A challenge, she says now, looking back: I was a little nervous backstage, and then it's like bring it on!' In 2002, she first appeared on the Toronto scene as a member of Les Coquettes as a sultry singer; her affection for good old rock and roll and the lure of footlights led her to Broadway songs. And Les Coquettes, one of the first Burlesque troupes in Canada to revive the old vaudeville tradition, led her to form her own group in her hometown, the Steeltown Sirens.
Eighty shows later, St. James had emerged as a singer as well as a saucy soubrette with slithery moves, legs to die for and a smile to melt the ice in your gin and tonic. Along the way, she worked as an artists' model, took the femme fatale role in Lucky 7, an indie film feature and performed as a guest with many well known Hamilton bands.
Backed by her band, it was her voice, sultry and surprisingly strong, that took her to her present level as one of Ontario's most exciting new artists. This was, after all, an artist who could handle show tunes, swing, rockabilly, country and good ol' rock and roll. Most of all, though, she developed a taste for the blues — which she vivaciously mixes with the rest of the musical genres she loves.
The first folk to take notice were the editors of View Magazine, Hamilton's guide to what matters in Steeltown — for four consecutive years, beginning in 2008, she was picked as Best Female Artist. Her debut recording Spank, Sparkle and Growl earned St. James the Alt/Country Recording of the Year at the 2010 Hamilton Music Awards and nominations for Female Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.
Following the success of her debut EP, St. James' dance card has been packed with gigs at major festivals, clubs and two East Coast tours. With the 2012 release of her sophomore recording, aptly titled Tease, Ginger St. James has now well and truly broken out of her role as a Hamilton phenomenon; the rest of us are discovering her. Now, with the confidence and smarts she's acquired since she shed most of her clothes at her first burlesque shows all those years ago, she has become a singer with the heart and soul and sexiness of the blues.
Ginger St. James, in short, has arrived. And you should — you will — pay attention. Blues, Country and Rock n' Roll are her primary weapons, though it's her sultry, expressive voice that steals the show.

Waterfront Dream House
The slow, lapping waves of Lake Ontario gently drift into shore, softly caressing the private dock extending outwards from 4466 Lakeside Drive. The quiet solitude of the moment is tranquil and pleasurable, stirring up emotions dictated by the delicacy of the visuals. With 225 feet of shoreline (with Riparian Rights), the unobstructed, panoramic visuals of the skyline on display are utterly captivating. The two-story, 4760 square foot custom home rises up, overlooking the vastness of the Great Lake. Upon initial sight, the house provides feelings of emotional bliss. There is a peacefulness that resides upon the land, a sense of being away from it all. Even though the highway is mere minutes away, the noise is nearly nonexistent. And with only fourteen houses on the Drive, the dwelling rests tranquilly, relishing in the privacy the charming community provides. The front of the home includes an immense, winding driveway, a luxury car-sized garage that houses 3.5 vehicles, multitudes of landscaped greenery, and an Oakdale stone courtyard. While in the spacious rear yard, some of the amenities featured are a 10 x 14 greenhouse, a stunning new patio, a sizable swimming pool, a propane-burning fire pit and a fully-serviced outdoor kitchen. Backing the yard is an extensive vineyard with spectacular views of the Niagara Escarpment in the distance. In 2018, the entire exterior of the house was completely redesigned and renovated (in 2008, the entire interior was remodelled with five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen and a basement featuring an In-Law Suite), and it’s clear a lot of time and effort has gone into the design of this home, providing it with a focused, distinct vision. There is a personality to it, and it’s evident in each and every room on display. A great sense of warmth permeates throughout, and though it is large in scale, there is never a sense of being overwhelmed by it all. An intimacy exists within its walls, and it’s only heightened by what surrounds those outside walls. The picturesque Lakeside Dream Home is escapism at its finest. Far from the congested, chaotic world of the city, this waterfront property is an exercise in calming serenity.

Ginger St James introduction at Kitchener Blues Festival 2015
From Festival's page description:
“A sassy and dynamic rockabilly singer, songwriter and guitarist, creating a national buzz with some slightly cheeky music and a captivating charisma fueled by her roaring voice and model beauty.” – Nick Krewen, Toronto Star
With her sultry and powerful voice, her sassy and commanding stage presence, and a repertoire that blends country, rock n’ roll and blues, Ginger St. James packs a lot of entertainment into her 5-foot frame.
Following the tradition of country songbirds like Loretta Lynn and Wanda Jackson, Ginger writes and sings music from real experience; growing up on the family farm, being broke, having fun, and love gone wrong. Her early life in Binbrook, Ontario was heavily influenced by American southern culture, listening to country radio in the barn. Although trips with Dad to the vintage car and rockabilly shows had their impact, her signature song ‘Ramblin’ Country Bumpkin’, proves that this gal is more Hee Haw than Happy Days.
A born entertainer, St. James began writing songs and telling jokes at 3 years old. Inspired by watching musicals, cabaret and listening to Big Band 8 tracks at Nanny and Grandad’s, she enrolled in jazz and tap dance lessons, performed in school plays and spent a summer at the Theatre Aquarius acting camp. She began a successful career as a dancer, actress and model, driven by her natural charisma and passion for the stage.
Feeling the most “in her own skin” expressing herself musically, St. James began writing tongue-in-cheek songs that were entertaining lyrically as well and visually and musically. Focusing on singing and learning guitar licks, she eventually moved to Toronto to break into the local roots music scene. There she was contacted by guitarist Snowheel Slim, who became her songwriting partner and bandleader. St. James moved back to Hamilton where she has established a solid fan base, expanding her reach across Ontario and Eastern Canada with countless major festival, fair, theatre and headline appearances.
She released her first EP, Spank, Sparkle & Growl, which won Alt/Country Recording of the Year at the 2010 Hamilton Music Awards. Independent Canadian label Let’s Riot Music signed St. James in 2012 and released her follow up EP, Tease.
Apart from being a seasoned performer and emerging songwriter, St. James is also a brainy businesswoman and entrepreneur. She recently recorded 3 tunes for the HBO TV series Call Me Fitz. Classic Rock Magazine featured one of her songs ‘Please Mister Driver’ on their 2012 Young, Gifted & Blues compilation. Her “pedal to the metal” band has opened for Rockabilly legends like Robert Gordon, and Sleepy LaBeef, captivating audiences wherever they roam. Hamilton’s View Magazine named her ‘Best Female Artist’ for four consecutive years.
Ginger St. James and her band wrapped up 2014 with nearly 100 live performances behind them. This “chick from the sticks” won’t be taking any time to hang out in the barnyard in 2015 either, as she plans to tour across Canada & into Europe to support her debut full-length album, Diesel & Peas.

Supermarine Spitfire
The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft that was used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries during and after the Second World War. The Spitfire was built in many variants, using several wing configurations, and was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft. It was also the only British fighter to be in continuous production throughout the war. The Spitfire continues to be a popular aircraft, with approximately 55 Spitfires being airworthy, while many more are static exhibits in aviation museums all over the world.
The Spitfire was designed as a short-range, high-performance interceptor aircraft by R. J. Mitchell, chief designer at Supermarine Aviation Works (which operated as a subsidiary of Vickers-Armstrong from 1928). In accordance with its role as an interceptor, Mitchell designed the Spitfire's distinctive elliptical wing to have the thinnest possible cross-section; this thin wing enabled the Spitfire to have a higher top speed than several contemporary fighters, including the Hawker Hurricane. Mitchell continued to refine the design until his death from cancer in 1937, whereupon his colleague Joseph Smith took over as chief designer, overseeing the development of the Spitfire through its multitude of variants.

SUMMARY
=======
The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and other Allied countries before, during, and after World War II. Many variants of the Spitfire were built, using several wing configurations, and it was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft. It was also the only British fighter produced continuously throughout the war. The Spitfire continues to be popular among enthusiasts; nearly 60 remain airworthy, and many more are static exhibits in aviation museums throughout the world.
The Spitfire was designed as a short-range, high-performance interceptor aircraft by R. J. Mitchell, chief designer at Supermarine Aviation Works, which operated as a subsidiary of Vickers-Armstrong from 1928. Mitchell pushed the Spitfire's distinctive elliptical wing with cutting-edge sunken rivets (designed by Beverley Shenstone) to have the thinnest possible cross-section, helping give the aircraft a higher top speed than several contemporary fighters, including the Hawker Hurricane. Mitchell continued to refine the design until his death in 1937, whereupon his colleague Joseph Smith took over as chief designer, overseeing the Spitfire's development through its multitude of variants.
During the Battle of Britain, from July to October 1940, the public perceived the Spitfire to be the main RAF fighter, though the more numerous Hurricane shouldered a greater proportion of the burden against Nazi Germany's air force, the Luftwaffe. However, Spitfire units had a lower attrition rate and a higher victory-to-loss ratio than those flying Hurricanes because of the Spitfire's higher performance. During the battle, Spitfires were generally tasked with engaging Luftwaffe fighters—mainly Messerschmitt Bf 109E-series aircraft, which were a close match for them.
After the Battle of Britain, the Spitfire superseded the Hurricane to become the backbone of RAF Fighter Command, and saw action in the European, Mediterranean, Pacific, and South-East Asian theatres. Much loved by its pilots, the Spitfire served in several roles, including interceptor, photo-reconnaissance, fighter-bomber, and trainer, and it continued to serve in these roles until the 1950s. The Seafire was a carrier-based adaptation of the Spitfire that served in the Fleet Air Arm from 1942 through to the mid-1950s. Although the original airframe was designed to be powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine producing 1,030 hp (768 kW), it was strong enough and adaptable enough to use increasingly powerful Merlins and, in later marks, Rolls-Royce Griffon engines producing up to 2,340 hp (1,745 kW). As a result, the Spitfire's performance and capabilities improved over the course of its service life.
