Bipenggou Valley Scenic Area:
198 km away from Chengdu, is located in Li County, Aba Autonomous Prefecture, on the transitional zone from the West Sichuan Plain to the Tibetan Plateau. It is a nationwide famous viewing spot for autumn red-leaves. Bipenggou Valley has a length of 50 kilometers and an area of over 600 square kilometers. Its altitude ranges 2015-5922 meters above the sea level and the annual average temperature is 11 ℃. Bipenggou Valley is metaphorically described as the shadow of Mt Siguniang, with its diversity in landscapes and its uniquely charming natural scenery. The unique natural ecological landscapes and harmonious ecological environment makes it a large eco-tourism attraction, which integrates hiking, adventuring, skate skiing and leisure sightseeing.

I've grouped together 10 Vine montage shots that I took on my visit this week to Lixian to see the mountain folk of Aba (Ngawa) Prefecture. Includes food, song and dance with my students' families plus a visit to the Bipenggou Scenic Area.

This was an interesting one! Tim and I went on another trip - this time up into northern Sichuan - the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Region - called A'ba in Chinese. We went there to visit this place - the 桃坪羌寨 - Taoping Qiang Village - a mountain stronghold built to protect against Tibetan invaders (among others). It has a history of over 2,000 years, so it's a real, legitimate, historic, and authentic ancient town / village in China. They're getting harder and harder to find nowadays. Ancient towns and villages are disappearing and being lost to progress.
After this, we headed up to Bipenggou (Bipeng Valley) - you'll see more in the next video! It's a beautiful place!

I forget the name of this place actually, I think it was called Bi Peng Gou but it was a super beautiful mountain hike through what could pass as a screensaver for you computer.

Eating LOCAL Countryside Cuisine in Lingshui, Hainan! Fried Pineapple Fish!
THIS was good! Trying out some real, authentic, local Hainanese cuisine! This is called a 农家乐, which is something akin to a retreat in the countryside. People drive out there and stay for the day or a few days, relax, fish, play cards, eat - whatever they want!
What I love about them most is that a lot of these places are located in the countryside, which means they grow a lot of their own vegetables and raise their own animals. Local organic produce and meat in China - who knew?? It's awesome!
We also try something called 米酒, a type of rice wine that they make right there on the property. How was it? Watch the video!
