The rain ruined what would have otherwise been a very picturesque day.

the terrain was mostly flat (YES) and I am now almost out of the alps. Took a wrong turn and started climbing a boulder of a mountain in the pouring rain. Steep rocky steps, slippery as butter, tearing thorns from overgrown vegetation did a number on my poncho and to top it off the breaks on the trolley gave out. so did I, around 25% of the way up, decided to come down. Would you believe it, I found the path bordering the canal?

The town's main attraction is the roman bridge and that's about it. Rained all afternoon and there is a 50 percent chance for tomorrow. Better leave early.

Double stage! I'm once again 3 days ahead of schedule.
With the alps now behind me and my body running in optimal form I decided to push myself.

It was a day of village hopping. Came across the ruins of a Roman church. Had an improvised lunch at a town with only a bar open (it's Sunday).

Once at Santihia, I ran into three pilgrims at a cafe by the square. They told me about the local ostello they were staying but I had already booked a hotel by the train station with the only restaurant opened for dinner. We saw each other over dinner once again.

Via Francigena Aussteiger auf Zeit Lausanne Aosta 2/2

Bourg St. Pierre...und vor uns liegt der Marsch hoch auf den Großen Sankt Bernhard Paß. Und jede Menge Fragen. Wo liegt denn nun dieser, so sehnsüchtig erwartete Paß, schaffen wir es überhaupt bis ganz nach oben zu steigen, hält das Wetter oder gehen wir auf dem Höhepunkt der Tour tatsächlich noch baden? Und oben angekommen? Natürlich, dann geht es hinunter in den sonnigen Süden, nach Italien, ins altehrwürdige Aosta.
Wir sind jedenfalls ganz gespannt, ich hoffe ihr auch und in diesem Sinne, machen wir uns auf den Weg, den Wolken ein Stück näher.
