Kyoto Festival: Autumn Leaves Festival at Jishu Shrine (Momiji Matsuri)
Jishu Jinja is a small shrine located on the grounds of the famous temple Kiyomizu-dera. Always bustling with visitors despite its modest size, Jishu Jinja is well-known as a love shrine, and many people drop by to ascertain their love fortunes, say a prayer, buy an enmusubi love charm, or walk between the two love rocks.
In November, the shrine is the site of the Momiji Matsuri (Autumn Leaves Festival). In a ritual, the shrine priests and shrine maidens give thanks to the enshrined gods for a good harvest and to the love god for his blessing, praying for prosperous businesses and safe families for those gathered. In an offering performed for the gods, a shrine priestess performs three dances: the Momiji no Mai, Tsurugi no Mai and Ōgi no Mai. In closing, the priests perform a hitakisai, a small fire ritual, as the sun begins to set over the Kyoto mountains.
Though the rituals last only an hour or so, the Momiji Matsuri at Jishu Jinja is an interesting opportunity to view Kiyomizu-dera's autumn leaves, pray for luck in love, and observe traditional dances as part of this autumn festival.

Takarabune (Japanese traditional dance)
Japanese classic show dance. Played in a recital on the 10th of April, 2011.
This work, titled Takarabune, is often selected to cerebrate a recital or a gala event. First performed year: unknown. Takarabune means treasure boat. Instead of loading treasury, seven deities are on aboard. Seven(7) is said the luckiest number in Japan, and the seven deities sometimes alters. Fixed ones are: (in order to appear in this work) Benzaiten弁財天(benten弁天) often the only woman in the sevens, Bishamonten毘沙門天, Hotei布袋, Ebisu恵比寿, Daikoku大黒, Fukurokuju福禄寿 and Juroujin寿老人. The last two are sometimes said identical and in some cases Juroujin alters to Fukusuke福助 or some other symbols of luckiness.
This work's feature is one dancer dances as seven different charactered deities.
Traditionally, dancers doesn't act while dancing. If there are anything to express, choleography must do that and only good works by that meanings have remained today, and the number of works are not many, like ballet.
The dancer in this video is nine-year-old girl who began to exercise classic works three years ago and has the six-year of career as traditional dancer. If it were the period of shogun, at this age good dancers and singers had been already working as Geisha's assistant, in the West they were called Maiko, in the East Hangyoku. Nowadays it is prohibited by the Child Welfare Act, and young grown-ups work with the image of old times.

At the end of November 2019, I went to the famous spot for autumn leaves in Kyoto!
The vlog of one day. You can enjoy Kyoto on one day trip!
1. Tofukuji Temple
A really famous spot for autumn leaves in Kyoto! There were many people because it was just in full bloom. Tsutenbashi / Fumonin Garden was very large and enjoyed the entire autumn leaves from below and from the top.
Also, Hojo Garden's japanese style garden is a great place! Everyone sits on the edge and takes a break ...!
There were many shops in and around the temple and it was like a festival. I ate baked rice cake, delicious!
2.Ume experience specialty store Choya
I experienced making plum wine. Cute shop! Reservation is required for the experience.
3. Salon de MUGE
It is a popular cafe. I wanted to go, but I couldn't enter in this line before opening ... Higashiyama area is beautiful. Nene-komichi, I also walked.
4. Salon de Kanbayashi
This is also a popular cafe. I refused that it was full of reservations ... The autumn leaves are beautiful throughout the city.
5. Manji Cafe
Walk down Hanamikoji to Manji Cafe. Although it was a small shop, it was crowded. I had a cake and coffee.
6. Cacao Market by Maribel
Shops with lots of sweets, chocolate drinks, and gelato. There seems to be a cafe in a remote place, so I want to go there next time.
