Christmas celebration at Bishop's Palace
Archbishop Rev Fr Filipe Neri Ferrao on Monday said Goa was getting into a new and ever greater form of intolerance with instances of wives and kids being hacked to death, gruesome murders over petty quarrels and fiery speeches on public platforms attempting to incite hatred between the communities.
Addressing the traditional annual civic reception on the occasion of Christmas, he reiterated on the importance to awaken families to their social mission or dharma, inaugurate a new society in India, particularly Goa, ‘a society where the age-old family values are cherished and strongly relied upon, while meeting with ever new and difficult challenges, so typical of the present time’.
“By and large, our families were abodes of peace. The whole of Goa was a haven of peace. On the social front, people from different walks of life, religious and social traditions lived in harmony and mutual respect. But what do we see today? New and ever greater forms of intolerance. It has become quite frequent to read in our newspapers stories of wives and kids being hacked to death, of gruesome murders caused by petty quarrels and, what is more, of fiery speeches made in public platforms, trying to incite hatred between communities and polarizing the majority against the minorities in this State,” he said.
“Most of us were brought up in traditional families, veritable schools of love, of understanding, of forgiveness, which are values that we not only lived within our families, but cultivated in our social and professional life, irrespective of the religion we professed,” the Archbishop added.
He also slammed the present situation in the State wherein far-reaching decisions are taken by a few people without taking into confidence legitimate stakeholders.
“If we want to live joyfully in this world and attain serenity of heart, we must let go anger, violence, intolerance and revenge,” the Archbishop said, referring to the year of mercy.
Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Governor Mridula Sinha, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, MPs, MLAs, defence personnel and other officials of the State were present

A Visit to Adil Shah's Palace | Old Secretariat | Panjim | Goa | India | 1080p
This was Assembly house of Goa's Legislative assembly before it was shifted to Porvorim. Now used as Directorate of Museums. It has a vast collection of Idols, Artifacts and Sculptures collected from all over Goa dating back from 90 to 1000 years ago both depicting Hinduism and chirstinity in Goa.
Panjim Heritage Walk Through the Streets of Fontainhas
The capital of Goa moved to Panjim or Panaji when a plague hit the old capital, now called Old Goa. Below the Altinho hill, came up the colorful houses, not by design but by an order that did not permit white color for houses. White was reserved for the churches and as you see in this video the tradition continues till date.
The narrow roads go through small cafes, homes with oyster shell windows, colorful wells, curio shops, staircases that take you up the hill & art galleries that showcase the local artists. You pass by churches, can climb up the hill to visit the Maruti temple and see the underground fountains. If you are lucky you can see the people playing music or singing.
Panjim Heritage Walk is a light, easy walk that anyone can take. There are always cafes and art galleries to stop by.

Goa & Daman Archdiocese:
Goa was called the Rome of the East due to the central role it played in the evangelization of the east.
In 1572, Pope Gregory XIII, by his Brief dated March 15, acknowledged the Archbishop of Goa as the Primate of the East. By 1857, Goa had gained some more suffragans while, on the other hand, it had lost most of its overseas suffragans, to the exception of Macau and Mozambique. On January 23, 1886, Pope Leo XIII invested the Archbishop of Goa with the title of Patriarch of East Indies. In the same year, the Archdiocese of Cranganore was suppressed and its title was annexed to the Diocese of Daman, and, after the suppression of the later in 1928, to the Archdiocese of Goa. From 1928, this Archdiocese is known as Goa and Daman, and its Archbishop is also the Titular Archbishop of Cranganore.
