Bishopstown is located in the civil parish of St. Finbar's, Barony of Cork, County Cork, Ireland. It is a southwestern suburb of Cork with a population of 24,136 people. The suburb has a number of schools and colleges, and is made-up of the townlands of Ballineaspigmore and Ballineaspigbeg . It is near the city of Ballincollig, a satellite of Cork City. Despite a common misconception, the origin of the town names does not stem from an early 18th-century bishop who built his country residence there. The town name can be traced back further and can be found in sources dating back to the 16th century.
