Taiwan 2016 Day 6 Part 2: Hiking Bitou Cape Trail (鼻頭角步道)
Join me on a spectacular hike in Bitou Cape Trail (鼻頭角步道) with incredible vistas of the sky, mountain and sea! The trail is located in Ruifang (瑞芳) District which is full of other tourist hotspots like Jiufen (九份), Jinguashi (金瓜石), The Golden Waterfall (黃金瀑布) and the remnant of Shuinandong Smelter (水湳洞精鍊廠)

from taoyuan : took bus no. 1819 to taipei main station.
from taipei main station take TRA train to Ruifang 49-76nt (30-50mins)
From Ruifang take bus no. 856 or 886(30nt) =38 mins

Bitou Cape is one of the three capes of Northern Taiwan: the other two are Fugui Cape (富貴角), the northernmost cape in Taiwan, and the easternmost Sandiao Cape (三貂角). Bitou Cape, or literally “tip-of-the-nose” in Chinese, is named as such for the nose-shaped cape that protrudes into the ocean. Here you will have a chance to witness a geological “zoo” of sea-eroded landforms such as ocean cliffs and platforms as well as mushroom, honeycomb, and tofu shaped rocks.
Bitou offers three trails that wind around the park area and afford great views of the coastline and intriguing landforms. Take a break at any of the numerous pavilions that dot the cliffs for a seaside excursion like no other. An interesting landmark of the area is the Bitou Cape Lighthouse, first built in 1896 then rebuilt following the WWII Allied bombing of Taiwan, which forms the terminus of the trails.
Fishermen have made this area something of a home for themselves, and you will likely wonder in amazement how they make it down to the rock platforms at the base of the cliffs. This sort of old world living is still found along the northern coast of Taiwan, and is quite characteristic of the quiet serenity of the region.
How to get there?
From Ruifang Station, ride a bus number 856 or 886 and drop to Bitou.
From Keelung Station, Ride a bus number 791 and drop to bitou.

From Taipei Main Station, sakay kayo ng train papuntang Ruifang train station. (49NT$)
pagbaba nyo ng Ruifang station, mag bus kayo #856 to Bitou Cape Hiking trail. (15NT$)

The Bitou Cape Hiking Trail consists of two sub-paths, one leading to a lighthouse and the other a valley. The trail is 3.5km long and it takes 2 to 3 hours to complete a round trip. A trip like this is not only good for one’s health but also for one’s intellect. Hike and learn about all kinds of rock formations resulting from sea erosions over the last hundreds and thousands of years.

地理上被稱為「小階地」的望月坡草坪,可說是鼻頭角地質公園最著名的景觀.夏日時分總是吸引眾多遊客來這欣賞日夜景致,在綠草如茵的望月坪下方,便是貼著海蝕平台的海蝕凹壁地形.
新北市瑞芳鼻頭角公車站等巴士 Bitou Cape,Ruifang (Taiwan)
鼻頭角在海域地理上極為重要,鼻頭角以北的海域屬東海,以南屬太平洋.鼻頭角(瑞芳區)與台灣本島極東的三貂角(貢寮區)和極北的富貴角(石門區),合稱「北台灣三角」.鼻頭角因突岬方位,使海水因潮汐的流勢,在鼻頭角燈塔下的海面形成一處俗稱「捲螺水」的大漩渦,以順時鐘方向旋轉,大潮大旋,小潮小旋.

Yingyang Sea is a natural phenomenon formed from the running of yellowish iron-rich river runoff into the sea. As the river water and sea water don’t mix that fast, it creates the pattern of the ying-yang. It is best seen after heavy rainfall, where there is ample river volume. Though there is a small drizzle on this day, the river volume is moderate, hence the phenomenon is not as spectacular. Nonetheless, the half-crescent of the yingyang can still be seen.

Because of the highly concentrated heavy metal ions in the water, it's strongly recommended not to go into the water.

BITOU CAPE VALLEY TRAIL | TAIWAN
Bitou Cape is one of the Three Capes of North Taiwan, the other two being Fugui Cape, the island's northernmost cape, and Sandiao Cape (Sandiaojiao), its easternmost. Most of the sea-eroded landform types of the entire Northeast Coast are found here, including the sea cliffs, undercut bluffs, and platforms which are more fully developed here than anywhere else in Taiwan. The sea-eroded platforms are thick with mush-room-shaped rocks, honeycomb rock, tofu (bean curd) rock, and marine fossils, all of which make this an outstanding natural geological classroom.
A paved footpath leads off beside the Bitou Elementary School here and onto the cape, giving access to splendid vistas of sea and sky. The path terminates at the tip of the cape and Bitou Cape Lighthouse, which was first constructed in 1896 and was rebuilt in its present form after being destroyed by Allied bombing during World War II.

How to get there from Ruifang:
From Ruifang station ride a bus to Bitoujiao then enjoy the Bitou Cape trail. Make sure to bring water as the trail is kinda long and exhausting. ????
How to go back to Taipei:
From Bitoujiao ride a bus going back to Ruifang station then train back to Taipei Main Station.

Hi guys, Today we went to RUIFANG CITY. here there are 12 tuorist spot you can find like JUIFEN OLD STREET,GOLD MUSEUM, GOLDEN WATERFALLS, SHUINANDONG, YANLIAO,AODI, FULONG BEACH, LONGONG BAY PARK, LONDONG, NANYA NANXIN TEMPLE, AND BITOU were we make our first adventure for the day.. but we failed to reach the BITOU LIGHT HOUSE for some reason.. anyway there will be another time to visit this peaceful and instagramable place..
