The Blackcomb Ascent Trails are three interconnected, uphill hiking trails that meander through beautiful, old growth, coastal rain forest from Whistler’s valley bottom to the Rendezvous Lodge on Blackcomb Mountain. Upon completion, the trails will travel a total of 5.2 km with a total elevation gain of 1,200 metres.

We had the perfect day to finally do the Peak to Peak Gondola in Whistler, BC, Canada and spent the day hiking both Blackcomb and Whistler Peaks and riding about 6 small gondolas plus face my fear of heights and gondolas combined! Our total hike was 13.50 miles up and down two mountains!

Lakeside & Decker Loops via Whistler Blackcomb PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola
Hiking Trails:
Blackcomb mountain is accessible via the breathtaking PEAK 2 PEAK gondola from Whistler mountain. We enjoyed beautiful alpine vistas by linking the Lakeside loop with the Decker Loop for a 3 hour hike. $58CAD each for lift tickets, so plan to spend as much of your day as possible up top, but don't miss the last gondola back!
Lakeside Loop
Length: 1.3km (.8 mi)
Elevation Change: 43m (141ft)
This short loop heads up to Blackcomb Lake, a great picnic spot. It is perfect for those with limited time who want a great view of the alpine wildflowers and vast scenery beyond. It continues past the lake to the Overlord Trail where you can head back toward the lodge or continue on Decker Loop.
Decker Loop
Length: 1.8km (1.1 mi)
Elevation Change: 134m (440ft)
Decker Loop is a challenging trail, but don’t let that dissuade you. The rewards for hiking this route will make themselves clear, especially once you make the steep but rewarding climb up the ridge just at the Garibaldi Provincial Park boundary. The trail descends through a boulder field that requires some scrambling to a second tiny lake with incredible views of the Overlord Glacier – as the furthest point on the trail this is an excellent spot to rest, snack and contemplate the majestic surroundings. Here the trail meets up with the Overlord Trail, leading you back through the subalpine landscape to the bottom of the ridge before heading back to the resort. This is the best trail to see alpine wildflowers when they are in bloom.

High Note Trail in Whistler, BC. We ran and hiked the trail a few years ago and I finally got around to making the video. I suspect there is a lot more snow up high this summer and even last summer vs when we did it after a low snowfall year but it is a beautiful alpine hike that you can access easily via the gondola and chairlift if you don't want to put in all the effort from the valley floor. A mix of a few different shots from a few different years.
Bear Fight | Whistler Mountain | June 2019
Two Black Bears on Whistler Mountain play fighting on one of the Ski runs in June 2019. At the start of the video you can see a mother sending her young cubs up a tree to safety, this is the mothers only way of protecting both of them from male Bears.

Garibaldi Lake is the most iconic attraction in Whistler, BC. This glacier fed lake located just south of Whistler, BC and about an hour and a half north of Vancouver Canada is something incredible.
Garibaldi Provincial Park has so much to offer and I tried to cover it all in this video. So this is the complete trail guide and review of Garibaldi Lake, Garibaldi Lake Campground, Taylor Meadows Campground, the Black Tusk Hike and the Panorama Ridge Viewpoint.

Blackcomb Peak
Fun challenge: Ride from the Whistler Valley floor to base of 7th, throw on the hiking shoes and hike to the base of Dead on Arrival eastern buttress, put on the climbing shoes and climb to the summit and then finesse your way through the boulders on the descent.

Well the rumour was that the EWS was going to be racing on thsis trail so I wanted to ride it before that happened! Turns out they are using Micro Climate instead :)
Pretty fun single black trail, just dust eating grins the whole way down.
It takes just over an hour to get there from the Upper Village, just head up the road to Out of the Dust which was more like Into the Dust!
